This has nothing to do as such with Pattaya. Post, or ask moderator to move this, to relevant heading.

And as above suggest, get the clearblue facts also before posting (again). AGE of this lady may also be imprtt.

(in a nearby country there is since a few yrs a cutoff age of above 55, slowly rising, as due to female emancipation they think younger ladies are pefectly able to work for themsleves. Emancipation has sometimes some unexpected sides!

As for Patters: about any of the nations well represented have more or less their own place they gather and gossip etc-there are the best info spots for such info from the customer side. Also holds for danish, swedish etc.

Thanks for your nice attitude ass and nee!  I'm not Norwegian and just was trying to help someone in need unlike your response, I guess you've never asked for help, you certainly will never get any! Miserable sod!

Not sure about this now, but there was a scheme where the wife could claim £2000 as a one off payment and then be paid, I think, about £50,00/month for two years. The info was available on the gov.uk web site under Bereavement Payments. This was 2015 so things may have changed now.

Things have changed, she gets nothing, not a penny, no one off payment or pension!! (UK that is)  Unless she lives in the UK or has her own personal rights to a UK Pension, ie NI Contributions, in her name)

I think a lot of Foreign husbands may "live" to a 100 now!!

Do they actually sell zip ties that are long enough to go around a large suitcase?

No they do not, but err ....you can simply connect them together?

Then of course when you cut the zip te you only have to replace one of them!

  5. Sorry but old is old!  USB's worn out cannot easily be replaced, RAM may be at its limit, Motherboard very old, probably cannot handle newer programmes, drivers old, cannot be upgraded, keyboard tired, mouse old, old specs, most likely cannot handle Windows 10, missing DLL files, Hard drive getting old and prone to failure, damaged components due to overheating, peripherals failing, old monitor, space issues etc.  Remember that repairing etc often only delays the obvious.

Buy a new one with a reasonable Hard drive size, 8 gb RAM, good processor etc, get Windows 10 operating system onto a new hard drive, and ask them to fit old drives as well as back up...note most new desktop PC's can only handle 2-3 drives (Unless you pay a lot more)

    Problems solved.   Good luck!

  6. Being a regular traveller I can tell you that luggage straps are not much use, the clip holding them together break very easily and in addition the luggage conveyor belts at airports catch them and rip them off.

Far better for security and helping the case hinges are plastic Zip-ties...very strong and will not break, the best place to buy the slightly larger zip ties is at the basement of TukCom.

  7. Read your comments and I transfer sterling from HSBC UK to my Thai Bank, Krung Thai every 3 months. I have not had any charges for many years, ( and I receive a very good rate) so I contacted them today online, this is there response

"Hi Paul, there is no charge for making your overseas transaction through Online Banking, but there a charge is carried if you make the payment over the phone with us - Phil."

Checking there charges page, I think it depends also if you say transfer Sterling, or convert into Thai Baht at source, and if you say "same day transfer" which they can do effecting "Transferwise"  and as they say effect online, not by telephone.

My money usually arrives in between 2-4 days

    Good Luck!!

Everything has been set up for the last 13 years, and there has never been a problem till now.

Great, do you hear the pump click on, when taps are opened? If not maybe the pump?  I ssume you have checked your tank has water in it above the pipe etc?

I think it was a storage tank and pump, I am hoping all I need to do is buy a new water pump and get someone to fix it, which may be hard to get up here in the boonies.

Potentially the pipework is wrongly set up, check before buying another pump, you should hear the pump engage when you turn on inhouse taps etc.

  10. DPKANKAN's response as below was faitly accurate

"Lump sum 25% tax free. Then you pay 20% over your personal tax allowance which, I think is about £11,800 p.a. Then will go up to a higher % at the next next tax bracket. Which I do not have to worry about!! 5555.

PS. I tried looking into non resident, but it is impossoble to understand their convoluted <deleted> paperwork. Asked, please tell me in words of one syllable and got the same response "read the paperwork". T..s..rs!!"

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------

So, my comments are In effect had you wanted a tax free income then you should have transferred your plan to an "offshore Pension Provider"  (QROPS which is what expats should consider).

Consequently your UK Pension is Pension income derived within the UK and is taxed as such, regardless of where you reside in general.

Within the UK taxation status the first 25% is tax free regardless, thereafter ALWAYS considered taxable income, unless in a QROPS scheme

Personally provided your pension is not solely invested in UK funds then you run the same chance as any pension in the world for investment risk, I think you are worrying too much, but wish you the best for the future.

  11. Sorry to let you know:

In a move that sees foreign national spouses stripped of their financial security, the British Government are now enforcing new pension rights in that they will no longer be entitled to the state pension rights that a wife or widow would have, were they to be a UK resident.

Until recently if a British national marries a non British National, she had the same rights to wife and widows pension as  her counterpart in the UK but she will now no longer be entitled to any benefits,  and many expats , who have paid UK Taxes all their lives before retiring to live outside the UK will be outraged to see their wives stripped of their future financial security.

The British Pensions Minister,  has already stated that “too many foreign people who have never set foot in Britain at all are receiving UK pensions.

The move which  affects over  250,000 foreign national spouses and widows around the world  is an easy target for the ministry which has been tasked with reducing  costs.  However little thought has been  afforded to those women, many of whom are supporting the children of their  spouses and rely totally on their allowance to provide a living.

Whilst not affecting  those foreign wives residing in the UK (or UK born wives who have never worked in their lives) quite frankly, is seen as insulting by the thousands of British Expats who have worked and paid into the state pensions plan, only now to see the very benefits and future family security for which they worked, taken away.

The savings, in many cases just 13500 baht a month for a widow,  pale in comparison to the benefits paid to  immigrants who swarm into the country  and are repaid for their, often illegal, immigration with  free housing and funding.  Decades of benefit abuse by immigrants to Great Britain  amount to billions of pounds lost to the Government but are rarely addressed by governments as “human rights” laws are imposed despite the anger of the population there.

In Thailand,  powerless Expats can only sit back and wait to see the full effect of the changes but for widows here the hatchet cuts will, in many cases, be devastating as the pensions they receive will, in many cases, be their sole source of income.

  12. I buy my chicken, fresh at BIg C, I have never had a problem.

I give the breast a light bashing, then marinate in Olive oil and vinegar, salt and pepper then fry it, always great.

If you want you can buy some Meat Tenderiser powder and mix in the marinade, even more tender (If possible!)

It's the weirdest thing. We eat healthy everywhere. Have no stress. Lots of kimchi and fermented stuff.

Two-five days into visiting Thailand, every time, she gets gastritis. Different cities. Different restaurants. Doesn't matter where or how much I spend. There's some weird bacterium that seems to be living within the Thai national boundaries that kills all the healthy bacteria in her stomach!

I agree, I'm on Omeprazole, most likely gastritis and i think caused by Thailand. The trick is to get the inflammation down and then try to work out what food is causing it. Possible it's a type of bacteria found in the food here, i wondered whether its MSG here. When i eat falang food it seems ok

  15. I use Ali Express on a regular basis, unfortunately many of there sellers are not actually selling anything!

They set up multiple products and never send them, eventually getting paid by Ali Express and if you dont claim they get your money for nothing!

To make matters worse they have a long delivery time scale and you cannot claim a refund until that time is up, however you will one day get your money back.

The reason why they get away with it is bacause Ali Express offer them postage charges per item of 1 cent!  The delivery route  / tracking shown is a myth unless you request registered delivery.

In the end, if you want a more reliable service use E BAY or LAZADA.

    Good luck.

Thai food in general is acidic - plus most of us eat lots of fruit, also acidic....

Local beer is, virtually, all made with fermented rice so thats another trigger

Thailand has a high use of MSG which is banned in many countries, it is used liberally by Thai street Vendors.

In addition you should be as a priority checked out for Helicobacter Pylori which is a common stomach irritation / infection eventually causing stomach ulcers and possible cancer, look it up!  Fortunately it can be easily cured in many cases by a course of specific antibiotics.
