A number of people working in tourism related businesses told me that Song Khran attracted fewer than average visitors, and things have been really slow since. Backpackers usually start to arrive in June, many people don't like them but they do spend money and keep a lot of businesses going until the high season. However if the curfew stays in effect I expect few backpackers, and those that come won't stay long. Backpackers don't like curfews.

and what about soccer fans ? they will really like it here with the world cup coming up....555

  2. whistling.gif As other posters have pointed out there is a procedure by which you can get a doctor's letter that you are to ill to travel.

On the other hand, a broken leg may not be enough to get such a letter.

Last month I returned from the U.S . to Thailand.

I always ask for a wheelchair as I am 67 years old and my right leg can not handle going up and down staircases and walking long distances.

So I had a wheelchair on my flight. On the same flight was a middle aged Thai woman with a broken ankle who also was in a wheelchair.

You CAN travel on a plane with a wheelchair you know.

But you will probably need to be able to walk up and down the aisles on the plane yourself. (You can use crutches)

All the rest, through the airport, is done in a wheelchair including going through immigration and picking up your luggage.

You also get priority service in a wheelchair, and they often use a lift (elevator) so you don't have to climb stairs or take escalators and/or stairs.

    It can be done.

I have never seen someone sitting in a wheelchair in a flight you mean the wheelchair is stored and the person has to walk to their seat.

i have personally travelled from the us to thailand in a wheelchair and was unable to walk a single step.there is a special wheelchair on board that fits between the isles, the airline's representatives asked me if i needed (and offered)assistance in the bathroom which didn't.i waited for a real quiet moment and walked there on my knees which i could.i had two broken feet.luckily i was quite fit otherwise.the service was free btw.

  3. i was lying in bed and thought i get sea sick ,rushed outside and saw the water sloshing around in containers....biggest one i remember here in 12 years.

  4. you can quarter potatoes you like and use them for seeds.if you use whole ones the results will be less.when the green comes up use the dirt on both sides of the row of plants to bury the stems/bottom of the plants. .this will make the plants grow better and the resulting trenches help with drainage.when the plants wilt its time for harvest. the actual potato must always be buried lest it turns green and is toxic!

  5. travelling in india i saw some clever contraptions.

outside the window a cage from chicken wire was constructed to cover the open window and duly covered with straw or old blankets.and watered with a trickle from above to keep the straw wet.the evaporation thus cooled the straw and the fan placed inside the open window blew the cold air from inside the contraption into the room.better efficiency imho. as the energy needed to get the water is far less than the cooling effect by evaporation compared to a ac unit. mold could be an issue in a humid climate. also the idea could be improved upon quite a bit.

  6. 20 baht last time i went between chiang mai gate and the corner to moon muang,a seventies looking yellow concrete ribbed building.in one minute the ancient doctor will check you with the stethoscope, women 1 1/2 min, morning times only.no joke.

  7. this is like a real think tank here

obviously you cross the canal road going on suthep road, towards the said mountain, you can see it,no need to google. then after the crossing on the right is the royal project fronted by the steak house?

  8. i am looking to buy some live shrimp for breeding .i saw them sometimes at the market where i live but recently they are dead when i get there .

not looking for some fancy ones for 100bt each just the small ones people use for frying with batter -they are called ghost or glass shrimp and about 1/12 or 2 inches long.

  9. funny thing is i caught a really nice one and tried to sell it to any of the stores that sell lizards and snakes but none wanted to have it -they all said its illegal to trade here in chiang mai-i released it-my experience-

Sick to catch it in the first place, were you that desperate for the money ??? was it to get some beer ??? sounds like it.

no- i don't need money for beer and i'm not sick either.just cant have it in my kitchen.i do the same with snakes scorpions etc.-when you have young children around certain things need to be done.some critters need to be relocated.

  10. i buy it at the milk co op on highway 11 just next to serapi -from 121 to 11 then u turn -you're there

or same thing across from the zoo where you can also buy cheese

    as i said before 5 kg @ 115bt but i am not 100% sure it's raw -doesn't matter anyway

the starter thing is just an expensive rumor -most yoghurt has plenty of acedophilus bacteria

and plain joghurt from 7/11 will do fine.

room temperature in cm varies from 20 to 35 so that's really bs

but if the temps are low it will take longer and there is more of a risk of contamination from airborne bacteria.

from wikipedia: L. acidophilus occurs naturally in the human and animal gastrointestinal tract, mouth, and vagina.

so all you have to do is spit in the milk if you think its not in the store bought yoghurt

  11. i boil the raw milk from the coop(5kg for 110bt!) and let it cool down.

the best temperature is around 40-like your forehead when in a fever

then add the yogurt and wrap it in a towel to keep it from cooling off.

    about 5 hrs.done.

yogurt makers might be good in the cold country.

  12. "R.I.P. Chiang Mai" ???

if i were to address my thai neighbors with a rant like that they would just let me know

that there is a train station bus station airport and a few roads all perfectly suited

for the young dynamic and yet experienced world traveler with the cool of the buddha

to look for greener pastures outside the emerald gates.

i've read lots of stupid posts on tv -this one tops many

  13. i brought mine over from the us

i detached the front tire and tied it to the frame in the back so it would protect the gears

inverted the pedals so they don't stick out

turned the handlebar 90' to be parallel with the frame

took two big pieces of card board and sandwiched the bike in them with duct tape

deflating the tires to 15 or 20# might be good but i didn't

i got the bike back here in good working order

  14. there are two dairy coops and i think they sell raw milk.i get it frequently to make yogurt.5 kilo for 120.-bt

one opposite the zoo the other on 11 to lampang just south of or next to serapi-

go to 11 from 121 then south make a u turn at the home building supply store, that's it.

the one at the zoo also sells some cheese ,the gouda is nice....

  15. if you go from the main police station on rajadaemmon rd to city hall on the road that has and is names after the prison you will pass a shop that is authentic southern thai food before coming to intrawororot rd they have tables across from the shop on the sidewalk. as is the custom you get a big plate of greens with dipping sauce with every meal.all is precooked and and served on rice from about 10 am to 6 pm.
