  1. This happened with limes a few years ago. Prices were high and countless YouTube videos and television programs on how to grow them appeared. Everybody gave it a go. Such a bumper crop people were literally giving them away for free,us included.
  2. Thanks. Last three visits a breeze so hoping my luck continues.
  3. And nothing to do with brown envelopes changing hands
  4. No, this was Heathrow. Happened on our 2nd and 3rd trips. Once at Terminal 2 and again at Terminal 5. Funnily enough , the first time I took my wife to the UK , I just got in the international queue just to help her through immigration. Quite a long slow queue. Had not been in it long when an amazing thing happened. An ex Filipino girlfriend of mine came up to us wearing an immigration officers uniform !! " Hi ----- , long time no see " She then pulled my wife and I out of the queue and took us straight to the front to a free immigration officer !! Pretty amazing coincidence I thought. Lovely girl but as thick as two short planks. Fortunately , being attractive , she always landed on her feet and pulled some good jobs down. Well done her and lucky me. Going back again in August for two months , this time alone. I am sure that without my lucky talisman I'll get stuck in a mile long queue. ( There is actually a security strike planned for the next day )
  5. That's a bummer for anyone who has absolutely no relatives, friends or contacts.
  6. I have a home to go to but if I were in the OPs shoes , even getting a van can be expensive these days, When I left the UK many years ago a reasonable old banger with MOT could be had for 500 pounds. These days , very hard to find one at that price. Will need considerably more plus a bit of spare cash in case it breaks down. More affordable would be a good tent, mattress and sleeping bag for some stealth camping. Even this only possible in the summer.
  7. Twice entered with my wife and asked if she could go with me through UK channel. ' No need sir ' was the answer and he then opened a lane especially for the two of us !! No queue, straight to an immigration desk. Through in 5 minutes. Sadly , didn't do us much good as I had booked and paid for a mini cab meet and greet allowing for 45 minutes to get through immigration. Even that failed to turn up and after waiting an hour and a half had to take a bus.
  8. Not recent. About 6 years ago. We drove in our own car so pretty easy to get there early.
  9. Oh how they hate him. Hope there is a capable successor waiting on the sidelines although it wouldn't surprise me if they found him guilty and along with him most members of Move Forward . Let the street protests begin .
  10. If you stay at a half decent hotel in a nearby town , you can ask the receptionist to arrange transport for you , to and from. There is a good chance they can steer you in the right direction with a contact phone number. In bigger cities there might even be a Grab option but I can't say for sure. Worth checking. Try to go to these places midweek and in the morning. Less crowded and a bit cooler. We had the place almost to ourselves.
  11. It can happen to anyone. At least he stayed in his seat.
  12. I'll second this. I have tried various brands of frying pans and woks and no matter how good they look they seldom last long. BUT .....the Tefal wok I bought has been an absolute trooper. Bought in almost three years ago and despite daily use , sometimes three times a day , still looks and performs almost as new. Nothing sticks to it. I paid 479 baht for it on Lazada : https://www.lazada.co.th/products/i602328663-s1134702540.html?urlFlag=true&mp=1&tradePath=omItm&tradeOrderId=327075558604080&tradeOrderLineId=327075558704080&spm=spm%3Da2o4m.order_details.item_title.1 but when I saw one the same on sale at our local Big C for 250 baht a few months ago I didn't hesitate to buy as a spare. Use it almost exclusively for omelettes . One tip is to never use a scourer to clean. Soak a little then just use the sponge side not the green side. Eggs slide off with ease.
  13. Tank slapper on water.
  14. Depending on gas type , about 35 baht a litre, and 15 kilometers per litre. Of course this is only a rough approximation . Depends to a degree on the vehicle and type of gas used.
  15. Yup. Black hair , tanned skin , brown eyes and an Asian appearance. He never forgets a face.
  16. He is a born again type. Originally born May 11 1944 , he was born again on May 11 1954. Unfortunately, he only gets one lot of birthday presents. Here is me retired at 65 but this bloke still working as usual. Get your feet up mate, your clock is ticking.
  17. This next one would have made a good soundtrack to a Vietnam war movie with helicopters flying all over the place. My favorite song when a bit wasted
  18. Tell me about it. Ours barked themselves hoarse until we locked them up and I chased the lizard away.
  19. I have seen this before in the wife of an American friend. She ran up debt of over 2 million baht , and this was 30 years ago ! His solution was to move , with her , back to his home village in a remote part of Alaska where a lot of the time you had to fly in and out because the road was impassable. Of course , this worked. Nobody to play with. Found her a job to give her something to focus on. This was not a cure and he knew it. On their rare trips back to Thailand he could not let her out of his sight as he knew that left on her own she would likely try and gamble again.
  20. Our dogs chased one up onto out gate a while back. A big fat one it was.
  21. Why some bozos think it would be a good idea to have a photo of themselves with a big cat is completely beyond me. It's just feeding the greed.
  22. Just to make it more confusing , they refer to each other as pinay ( female ) and pinoy ( male ) https://www.dictionary.com/e/translations/pinay/ I found them to be friendly. Thais have become more ' sophisticated ' in the last 30 years. Back in the day the epithet ' Land of Smiles ' was coined. Not so much now. Going back further English people were know as poo dee angrit. I think it safe to say that last bit has gone right out the window these days.
  23. More funding needed. How long ago was it that the 30 baht health care began ? It was launched in 2002 : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universal_Coverage_(Thailand)#:~:text=The Universal Coverage scheme%2C also, care to the country's citizens. Since then inflation has pushed the price of literally everything up , but the Universal Coverage scheme is still 30 baht. I am all for affordable health care for people but this needs to be reviewed and the rate increased in line with inflation.
  24. You had best hurry and patent that then sit back and watch the cash flood in !
