1. Bangkok similar to any US city! No.

Is Thailand still a third World country? Yes.

No state benefits. Poor wages for the vast majority of citizens.

Poverty in large areas of the countryside and in Bangkok.

The same goes for you. On your way please.

    Sorry grumpy

  2. <snip>

I think women are easily influenced all over the World,

    <snip>

The nineteenth century called. They'd like you to return home.

My friend I love women but They are easily influenced, (not all I know)

They are not as single minded as men and can be heavily influenced

by what their friends say or what was discussed on a silly soap

opera. just what I have noticed anyway.

  3. Its true you can not trust people in Thailand and especially

the women who are more devious.

The girls might love you at the start but one viewing of a certain

soap opera or a remark from their friend could turn your

once pleasant girlfriend's mentality into that of a evil fuc_k.

I think women are easily influenced all over the World, but in

'the land of smiles' they lack complete focus <snip>

Make up your mind already. Are Thai women devious or are they so simple minded that they are easily influenced and lack focus?

I think women are easily influenced all over the World

Clearly. Women should never have been given the vote, let alone allowed to run for office.

Apoligize for my nasty post, I have met some nice Thai ladies

    to be honest.

I did not say they were simple minded but a lot of them are

devious and by the way you can be easily influenced and devious.

  4. Not that I know too much about Thailand's history but I think

if you are talking about somewhere like BKK then the change

in time and developments would have been more gradual and

    noticable.

I think you may have a point with Isaan and rural places. I bet

if you went back 30 years into Isaan it was probably the same

for a thousand years or so without too much change.

I could be totaly wrong though.

  5. A lot of foreigners staying in Thailand saying you need to stay in

Isaan or Northern Thailand to take in the REAL THAI CULTURE.

I am sorry but <deleted> to all of that, as a foreign person stick

to the beach resorts and enjoy yourself. Take in culture of a

country that takes itself a little more seriously.

The local inbreds in Isaan will never really except you and no amount

of whiskey drinking will change that reality as you are a alien to them.

Good to see that you have been accepted in the beach resorts.

Apoligize for my negative post. Not really like that usually.

Been a bit bored and depressed the last week, probably why

I have been posting on this forum.

Don't know about Surin, but Buriram is quite close and I have stayed

there, guessing they are both about the same.

Lets just say I was glad to leave, reason being the surroundings

    and the people.

Sorry for going some what off topic.

Spoken like a true TOURIST(2 week Millionaire) :):D:D

I'd stick to Benidorm next year, if I were you. The prisons nice (I've been locked in it) :D

My post was a bit negative but..................

Chai mai, I think you will find it is a lot more important to be

accepted into a village with a population of 60 then be accepted

    into a tourist area.

    As for Dave;

Never been to Spain will not go there.

I think you will find that your type of being a big farang fish in a small isaan bowl

is in the minority. Two week millionaire, usually go for a month or two actually.

My girlfriend comes from Buriram and she does not rate Isaan either.

Man I don't know about leaving Thailand to go to a neighbouring country

    or nearby right now (maybe in a few years who knows). What is there;

    Cambodia:Danger (why?????)

    Laos: Danger (Why?????)

Malaysia: Muslim (say no more) (????? please explain - I do not understand. I live in Thailand (Krabi) and the majority of my neighbours are Muslim

Vietnam: Bit shitty me thinks (you mean lack of sanitation or something?)

Burma: Dont need to comment (Why not? Practical comments would help

    Simon

    So sorry Simon I have edited my ill informed post;

Cambodia: Completely safe, hey why not take the kids.

Laos: Well known for great hospitality towards visitors.

Malaysia: Those Muslim chaps are very pleasant and so liberal towards different religous groups and sexualities.

Vietnam: Has won awards for cleanest country in Asia.

Burma: World wide admiration for great democratic rights of its citizens.

  8. Life's Good.

    :)

Bill is the only guy I take any notice of, like me he actually lives in Thailand and has done for many years, like me also, he does not whine about the property ownership laws, (That we all knew before we bought property anyway ), who cares anyway, I can't take land with me when I die.

Why on earth Farangs whine about land ownership laws when they know the laws that exists is beyond me. Whining on an internet forum does nothing, you still can't own land, but you already knew that, so why freekin' moan about someting that you already knew ????

I paid for land that will never be in my name, big deal, oh wow, I'll be on my deathbed thinking about it................. and if it was in my name, I'll still be on my deathbed, thinking about it ..... I'd leave it to my wife or kids either way.

Do Farangs think that the land they ' OWN ' will follow them to the afterlife ?

We never own nothing, we just have it for a few years, we die, then somebody else owns it until they die, then somebody else owns it until they die and so on and so on...................................................

    Good luck Bill......

No but you could be evicted while you are still alive. You do not own any land as it is not in your name.

  10. I'm sorry, but the OP's entire premise is nonsense. Speaking from an American perspective, I know very little about European history (other than the obviously major stuff), South American history, African history, and of course, Asian history. If it doesn't really effect me on a day-to-day basis, why would I be interested? Thai's would be better off learning some history related to the region (i.e., Asia), but honestly, just because you're personally interested, it doesn't mean that it's applicable at all to anyone residing in Thailand. It's a rather arrogant presumption, actually. How much do you know about Thai history? China? Japan? I'm sure your ignorance is profound.

I think we have to understand that education standards in Europe are much

higher than the rest of the World and generally speaking where the most

intelligent people come from or are educated there.

Just look how many overseas university graduates come from all over the

World to study in England: All subjects, Germany:engineering and science

    and Ireland: literature.

Yes Europe may have its down points (my beef would be its a little dull)

but Europe truly is the brain of the Earth.

  11. Man I don't know about leaving Thailand to go to a neighbouring country

    or nearby right now (maybe in a few years who knows). What is there;

    Cambodia:Danger

    Laos: Danger

    Malaysia: Muslim (say no more)

    Vietnam: Bit shitty me thinks

    Burma: Dont need to comment

    But then again.............

There are some other countries to consider like Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong

but the only thing is you need nuff cash.

Bit further away but the place I would really love to live (if I had the oppourtunity)

is Japan. Great history/culture, genuinely great country, modern, decent enough

weather, CIVILISED PEOPLE, exciting, sexy Asian women who if you can pull

a woman will have a great time there. Then again you need a job or business

or LOTS of cash to live there.

Good luck my friend but I think when you count all the factors Thailand is

still the best. Who knows in future years.

  12. Why are people posting that foreign people should not join the red

shirt demostrators. Surely its up to the individual if they are adults.

Saying that personally I would never join them as....... well..........

I just do do not really care enough about Thai people or their

    politics.

  13. Sad state of Thai TV. You are 100% correct there.

Thought UK TV was shit but the rubbish they broadcast

out here is terrible. Lots of long drawn out

soap opera's and strange cabaret style programs.

Lets be honest though when in Thailand do you really

want to be stuck in watching TV. Want to be out in

    the nice tropical air.

  14. My girlfriend has a visa appointment with the Britsih Embassy Bangkok on tuesday.

Sure the embassy will be closed.

I know the red shirts are standing up for their own rights but how many people's lifes

of all parts of society have they inconvenienced and as for the government.

Could you imagine this in London, New york or Moscow in the finacial districts.

Would have been sorted out with in a couple of weeks.

Remember how pathetically the government dealt with the yellow shirt demostrators

at Bkk airport. Could you imagine that being tolerated in Heathrow or JFK airport.

Sorry to say this but Thailand is looking a bit of a joke and it is a good time for

another South East Asian country to really promote themselves as a new major

    holiday destination.

  15. On the subject of dehydration, I have noticed that Thais sweat on their upper lip and nose, rather than on their forehead and back - like most westerners do.

I was thinking that - seen from a Darwinistic perpective and assuming it's genetical - this could potentially have had an impact as to who would survive - say a long walk in a desert or such, as the sweat on the upper lip can easily be 'licked off' and thus 'recycled' whereas sweat on the back or forehead would be bound to simply evaporate and be lost forever.

And, as westerners don't have so many warm, dry deserts to walk through as Asians might have (had) there would be a higher chance of survival for a 'back-sweater' in the west, wouldn't it ?

Does this make any sense, or am I just lost in space here ??? ( more than normal that is :D )

    :)

Actually, seems like is the opposite. Asians sweat and have less B.O. than westerners bc of a gen that also makes them have dry earwax (westerners and Afrikaners have wet earwax) as a collateral effect. This gen could have evolved in North Asian population in response to COLD WEATHER they had in the past...

well, so that said a team of Japanesse scientifics.

    SOURCE

So true about Thai's only sweating on their noses and upper lips,

reminds me of my child hood puppy.

The only reason Thai's sweat less than Europeans is that

they are used to the conditions and generally super slim

meaning they excert less energy when doing everyday things

such as walking. Saying that I can easily handle 30*c+

temperatures and can play football go running etc. But just

a 5 minute walk in the sun can make me seriously sweat.............

    ................................................................................

    .........

Gosh guys I need to get out a bit more.
