  1. The same exact thing happened to me. It was with my ex-girlfriend, two of her friends and two Thai police, all staring me down and extorting money out of me. Me and her were in a big argument on the way to the airport and decided not to take our trip together. To make a long story short I called her a really bad word in Thai that I guess is a crime if used in public (I didn't know that) and she got the police involved (I never touched her, just called her a name).

They brought me into that same exact room, blinds open and all, and all of them together spent an hour convincing me to pay her 60,000 Baht or else go to jail. The head police guy didn't say much the entire time but he kept starting at me and closing and opening handcuffs.

After I eventually paid the money they all told me to leave and they stayed and shut the door, obviously dividing up my money as they had most likely discussed in Thai right in front of me.

I have never been so happy to leave Thailand as I was that night. The whole lot of them should rot in hel_l.

Mate you should not have paid that fine, what evidence did they have that you called her

this name. If the police asked me if I had called the lady this name I would deny it.........

no recordings of you saying it so......... Is it against the law in Thailand to call someone a

name? If it is does that mean that everybody who calls someone a rude name in Thailand

should hand up 60,000 baht............. a years wages for many Thai's. Unbelievable.

My only link now with Thailand is my fiance, I have no interest of visiting Thailand again,

been there many times in the past and had some good times, but that is in the past.

I am older now, when people would talk about developing countries when I was younger

I would just think that all countries are developing and thought Thailand was great.

I am older now and just view Thailand as a immature country and definately not great

in the real context of the word. Alas no where is perfect, in Thailand you have somewhere

with lovely tropical weather, top food, hotties walking each and every way and a fun vibe.

Unfortunately there is a real sick side to Thailand which completely spoils it for me and many more.

  2. So 3.5 per 100,000 suicides in first 6 months. The average in a year is 6 per 100,000.

3.5 * 2 (to equate annual year)=7 which would equate to a 1 more suicide per 100,000 in a year.

60,000 million Thai's, so 1 extra suicide per 100,000 would equal 600 more suicides

in this year. I am not being cold here but I do not think that is a big move from the average, which

is not too high anyway. The murder rate in Thailand is 8 per 100,000, a more worrying statistic.

  3. I love the people on here who will not except anything negative about Thailand............ jokers the lot of ya.

Look Thailand has not invented or introduced anything of real merit to the World that I can think of.

Then again neither have I personally so I am not going to attack Thai people about that but I will

    except the truth.

I may be wrong, if anybody can tell me something significant that Thailand has invented or introduced

to man kind then I would genuinely love to hear from them.

  4. I would guess that if she does seperate from husband she has no chance of recieving

ILR.................... unless she is pregnant then I do not know at all. Despite UK immigration

being ridiculed they can be strict. Where I am living there has been a increase in foriegn

people being deported and they are clamping down on people who do not reach requirements

to stay in the UK officially.

I think your mate should try to sort out problems with wife then if she is not co operative

report to UK immigration that wife has left him................. then it is time to move on. It may

seem sad to do so but if your mate has been sincere to the relationship and she has

walked out on him for what sounds like something minor then she is not a loving, loyal

woman and obviously does not value their relationship.

  5. Guess the TAT looked at the demographic of tourists to Pattaya.

The main target which I would say is European men, now most

younger Europeans (apart from Russians) seem to visit Pattaya

in small volume and is not a hit with them. Knowing that their

main tourist group is either dying off or moving on they need

new visitors to keep the money rolling in.

Just wondering how advertising Pattaya in Iran would go down.

Iran is not known for its liberalism.

  6. Thailand does not have a good name internationally.

Thailand from right at the top have closed their eyes to

how they conduct themselves meaning citizens of Thailand

will not find travelling to decent countries easy. Simple as that.

Want to travel with ease to other countries then think of picking

a woman from a country that considers its international status

a little more than Thailand does.

  7. ^Think you got a bit carried away there.

Some of the things you are mentioning sounds like only a small portion

of the population. Anyway the ones who act like this and think they are the

tops usually meet someone who stops them in their tracks............... always

    someone else with bigger balls.

I have never heard about a guy hitting his mother in Thailand, usually seen

them being respectful, more than western countries.

  8. ^Pattaya can be very dangerous and so is Thailand in whole which has quite a high

murder rate. (highest murder rate of all east and south east asian countries!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Saying that I have never had any problems to talk about, feel safer walking around

anywhere in Thailand at night then I would in certain parts of London.

Do get the feeling that making a mistake in Thailand could end in tradegy as the place

does give you the kind of feeling that most problems are sorted out person to person

rather than through police or courts. Thai people do not seem the easiest people to reason

with in a heated situation either.

  9. A length of bamboo seems to be the way to deal with this in Thailand.

Thankfully, this kind of thing is illegal in Thailand under the Child Protection Act.

It's a quick way to teach people how to hate others. It has never worked, it doesn't work & it will never work.

I'm glad I'm not one of your students (aka whipping posts).

Hey I did not say I approved of disciplining students this way..................... jumping to

    conclusions again (love this forum).

As you seem to be an expert on this subject you should also know that illegal or not

teachers in Thailand regulary discipline students physically, especailly in rural areas.

  10. Saturday night in Bangkok. The stars were out and I was out on the town wearing

my finest Singha vest, red football shorts and sandles. i decided to visit a well known

cocktail bar for some relaxed and sophisticated company.

What a night...................until....................... some kids recognised me from a recent

unfortunate journey on the Skytrain. They started to follow me all over Sukhumvit

    sniffing me and laughing.

I stopped off at a noodle bar at the side of a soi.............. when I just could not control

myself no more................ lets just say my red shorts were now looking rather brown.

Now all the local Thai people were pointing at me, sniffing me.................. but why?

"WHAT AN OUTRAGE" I screamed. It was just a accident and natural behaviour from

a man of my age. In the end it was all too much for me so I escaped to my apartment

where I did not leave for days.

Now alone I ponder this tale of woe and think to myself do I need a colostomy bag

or are the Thai's completely unreasonable and should allow this foriegner his right

to soil his pants when ever and where ever one feels like doing so.
