I did a few visa runs from Pattaya to the Cambodian border,
think the Companys name was 5* Visa Service.
Horrible process, wake up early, sit in a minibus for hours,
arrive at the end of the World, get harrased by child beggars,
passport stamped by some dodgy looking border official, then return.
Sorry I could not recommend that service, if you are in Pattaya
or Bkk I would say the next nearest border by road (not including Burma)
would probably be Laos. Not sure if thats any better.
-
Yes I think we all have done our fair share of bird watching
in the land of smiles.
-
Errrr.... No offense, but I still feel safer in Bangkok right now than in Pattaya at its quietest time...
No way, Bangkok is more dangerous for a foreigner with or without the recent problems,
make no mistake.
Still I probably feel safer walking arouund Bkk at Midnight then I would walking around
Hackney or Peckham.

One of the things I like about Thailand is the lack
of stupid rules and laws which have taken the fun
out life in many western countries.
-
I do not think that the current exchange rates should effect the ordinary
chap living here or on holiday too much. Its cheap anyway, just means you
will not be getting such as bargain as before.
I am shocked that the baht has held up so well, I thought it would be a
bit of a slide same as the £. Maybe £1 - 70baht is over forever. Loved
those times in Thailand, change up a grand or two and you had a wod
of cash which seemed to go on forever.
-
They just want a three day weekend.
-
I think you would have to be brave, stupid or just not give a f*** to purchase property
in a country like Thailand.
-
Phuket sounds like a rip off. From jet ski skams to dodgy tuk tuk's
and inflated prices. Think I will be seeing Koh Samui for a nice beach
destination rather than phuket.

Thailand is poor and like most poor places around the World the locals
will gang up against foreigners or outsiders. The people have been brought
up with a tougher mentality and still have a sense of community.
Never really had any problems myself in Thaiand worth talking about but
the land of smiles does have some real issues.
I bet if you was to walk around other poor countries in South America,
Eastern Europe, Africa or even poor parts of developed countries you
will see the same kind of mob attitude in the local men.
-
Probably heard how many of the Bangkok rif raf talk about them. They know that farangs in Bangkok are very racist towards working class people
What a silly post from somtampet.
Anyway I do not think red shirts have a particular issue with foreigners.
From what I can make out there problem is with the Thai political system.
The protesters looking badly at you were probably just thinking 'look at
this old git walking around with another one of our girls.'
Most of the half intelligent (I am not sure real intelligence exists in Thailand)
demostrators will understand that farang people help the poor areas evade
poverty. So for them to like or dis-like is not a issue for them, they will tolerate
as they know we help and probably care more about them than their leaders.
-
The core of the issue with many poor Thai women farangs tend to date is money. Either directly or indirectly everything boils down to how much money will you give them... It's all about financial security and family.
It is none of your TGF business how much money you have, so don't go showing off how much you make or how much you have. That is counter productive.
Also, your TGF family are like people on welfare. In most cases, the mom does not work; the dad fools around, gets drunk and does not work and the brother is lazy and can't hold down a decent job. Therefore, the daughters become the bread winners.
Most parents know their poor, uneducated daughters work in Bangkok and pay no attention or ignore that their daughters are prostitutes. Fact is, if you give a girl money for sex, or you give her 20,000 baht a month each month to live with you it is the same thing. Money for sex.
Don't fool yourself. You also have to look at your inlaws and accept that these folks are now related to you. Can you imagine introducing them to your friends overseas? "Hey I'd like you to meet my in-laws, including dead beat father in law who gets drunk, philanders all week and does nothing for a living...."
This is reality.
So True. Love the last paragraph mate.

You know if a Thai guy breaks into your place and you
approach him then it will probably result in one of you
being killed........... but it will most likely be you as
who is more likely to be carrying a deadly weapon.
Just say you did kill or seriosly wound the thai invader.
What the fuc_k would happen to you.............. does not
bare thinking about this situation.
Suppose if you did report it and was investigated by a decent police
force the truth would come out of the situation. The thing
is Thai Police are not known for being a fair force whether you
are Thai or foreign. These are the pit falls of living in a
third world country.
-
You would have to be crazy mate to get involved
in all this red and yellow polka dot shirt crap.
-
Its true you can not trust people in Thailand and especially
the women who are more devious.
The girls might love you at the start but one viewing of a certain
soap opera or a remark from their friend could turn your
once pleasant girlfriend's mentality into that of a evil fuc_k.
I think women are easily influenced all over the World, but in
'the land of smiles' they lack complete focus and basically
you will be wasting your life with what most people would
call a leech or scumbag.
I think the ones who have won when it comes to Thailand
are the ones who come here for holidays, have lots of fun,
enjoy the sights, shag lots of girls and go home at the end of
it alone or with the friends they came out with.

If you do not like her parents and find them offensive then do not
visit them. Simply as that.
Be a man son.

As an expat for 15 years I'm happy to see we are more appreciated and welcomed with a free visa fee.
I remember the good old days about 10 years ago,or maybe 8 when I got 3 months "welcome" tourist stamp when entered the kingdom Of Thailand. It went from 100 baht overstay, to 200 overstay, then 500 baht, and then to make it sure it was only 15 days tourist visa crossing the border to Malaysia, where they still give you 3 months visa.
Now Thailand is close to a civil war,,,and do understand that pats and tourist are do needed to make he wheels to go around.
Thailand have always been a country where to find peace, friendly people and smiles,,,,,now this might look like to be a history,,what happens now? Why this stupid violence in this great kingdom??? What is going on??
My kids are born in the motherland Thailand,,is it now time to pull them out from their own country...
I'm confused and do not know the real situation, who does it effect who ever is the prime minister??? It is always the same story,,,very corrupt and not so corrupt.
So many things wrong with this post dude.
For a start, it is not that foriegn people are appreciated by the Thai authorites or public. They just know
that we put food on the table and without us the 'land of smiles' is looking something like Cambodia.
Friendly people.................. sorry mate. If you have been in Thailand for 15 years surely you should be
seeing through this by now. Thai people are not friendly, they are quite devious but for 90% of the
population do not know how to be someones friend.
Great Kingdom????????????????

The Americans might not have created Pattaya, but they certainly had a hand in creating the Philippines poor man's version of it... Angeles City... an hour's drive north of Manilla.
Poor mans version of Pattaya.............. think I will keep away
from this Angeles City then.

I think the tourist levels will fall drastically in certain groups. Familys and couples will
come in much lower amounts while I believe single males and backpackers (the bread
and butter of Thai tourism) will come at usually levels.
I think Thailand as a big destination in the World to bring your family for annual
holidays is over. Lets be honest, what do most people think about when it comes
to holidays to Thailand............ Yes nice beaches, temples etc but what springs to most
peoples mind first would be nice bitches and go go bars!
-
Amazing news.
Get a life guys.
-
Thai women are good in some ways and bad in others.
I love the fun vibe they give out, smiles, petite hot tanned bodies
and can be great company but ........... They can change and go from the
special one in your life to a scumbag like no other females on earth.
Dissapointing but true. Must say that going with other women after
Thai women can seem a dull alternative.

If you have moved her to a colder country (just guessing here) then
its probably the fact when she was in the tropics the hot weather
and spicy snacks kept her in shape without any real excersise.
Feel for you there mate, is a tricky one.
-
Your asking how to deal with your wife when she loses her temper.
What a real man.
-
Bangkok similar to any US city! No.
Is Thailand still a third World country? Yes.
No state benefits. Poor wages for the vast majority of citizens.
Poverty in large areas of the countryside and in Bangkok.
