  1. Are you a Permanent resident in Thailand, ie you live here full time , or do you have Permanent residency in Thailand ?

I think the former, so for a work permit you need to have a job offer first and then the employer will arrange the paperwork to apply for your work permit. In theory you cannot start work until your work permit is processed, but normally you will start work while your permit is processed.

Can I ask, why do you NEED a work permit if you don't have a job or job offer ?

Also, the process may include further steps depending what visa / visa extension you are on

  2. Write this off to a bad experience and be a little wiser next time. One thing you need to understand, the visas have to be issued prior to obtaining a work permit. Visas must be obtained offshore and the WP onshore. Hope this helps.

    Good luck with the pregnancy.

"Visas must be obtained offshore and the work permit onshore" , This is not true - you can arrive with a 15 visa exempt entry and as long as you have 10 or more days remaining of your permission to stay, this can be converted to a Non-B (for work purposes, with your employers sponsorship), at Immigration here in Thailand.

  3. I find it hard to believe that anyone can say that Claudio's drivers are safe.....................I have never been so scared, 140km/h in the pouring rain, tailgating the vehicle in front !

we got back to Bkk, and despite telling the driver the easiest way to drop us off at our respective points he drove around like a headless chicken and added 2 hours to our trip, not really what you want at the end of a long journey.

I will never use them again because of their drivers, and to those who think they are safe, I would hate so see what you consider unsafe.

  4. Not the most helpful of answers, but here I go; I am aware that the consulates in UK have been tightening up on multi-entry visas (during the year that you have had yours), best advice for this time is to take as much paperwork and proof of care as you can and hope that the consulate sees that you are 'caring' for your child as much as you can and that a multi-entry visa is the most appropriate. Should you only get a single entry, you can always extend for 60 days at immigration here in Bangkok.

I am sure that someone with a more precise knowledge will come along, but I am pretty sure the gist of my reply is correct :-)

  5. I don’t really understand why you are doing a border run.

I suppose you have a Non-O extension based on work and therefore you don’t have to do visa runs, only the 90 day reporting.

If this is the case you can change in most cases your WP from your old to your new employer at the same day and continue using your current visa extension.

You can not apply for a Business visa inside Thailand, you have to apply for your first Business visa outside Thailand at the Thai Embassy or Consulate.

The OP did not mention O Visa, I assume that he has a normal B visa and , correctly, he need to leave the country in order to apply for a new visa or stamp.

If his new employer can help it is perfectly legal to change, even the 15day stamp,to a Non Immigrant Visa B, provided a certain amount of days are left and all documents have been provided.

Very correct, my new employer will change the 15 day stamp to a Non-B :-) My big concern is the total lack of 90 day reports and wether that can be sorted at the border or do I need to go to immigration here first ?

  6. @ Lopburi, my ex employer did not cancel my work permit and continued to take my social payments from monies owed, so the overstay should be a mute point.

I am going to the border to get a 15 day stamp, our visa/wp guy at work has asked his friends at immigration and they are happy to start the process with over 10 days left on a permission to stay.

So I will cancel my current wp and extension of stay when I leave the country and then start again , (or at least that is how I understand it)

  7. Really not sure about this one, so any 100% advice would be really welcome.

My last employer has not carried out any of my 90 day reports on my extension of stay , and now for my new employer I need to do a quick 'border hop' to Cambodia.

Just wondering what my options are ? My extension is about 11 months old now. should I go to immigration and pay a fine or can I pay that fine at the border with Cambodia ?

    Thanks guys and gals

  8. Hi all,

my 90 day report was due on dec 13, i collected and posted all the documents to chang wattana.

Waited and waited, checked with ups, and they printed out confirmation that it was all signed for on dec 14 , (the floods were still in swing at this time)

But i got nothing from immigration back, what is best for me to do now ? I am guessing go to chang wattana in person and pay the 2000baht fine ? and start afresh with my 90 day reports ?

(I have a wp if that has any bearing on it?)

    Thanks

  9. Hi all,

The gf just bought a brand new scooter from the shop and I am now trying to find out about insurance. She says she will get the red plates from the shop in 2 weeks, do we have to wait until then to get insurance ?

I have tried asking her, but get totally non committal answers, and i want to know that we are fully covered.

Any clues as to where or how much it will be ? is the bike covered or do we need insurance for every rider ?

Sorry for asking so many questions, any help would be most appreciated

    Lloyd

  10. Hi all,

Situation - I work as a teacher for an agency at a Government school, I am on an 11 month contract. I pay the 750 Baht a month Social fund.

I get 2000 Baht a month 'bonus' for 100% attendance on top of my wage

If I am off sick for 1 day, (with or without a doctors note), I am charged 1200 Baht for that day and lose the 2000 Baht bonus.

If I give less than 1 business days notice of being sick, I am charged even more than the 1200 Baht.

Question - Is this right/correct/legal within Labour law ? ( I am aware that Labour law allows for up to 30 days sick per year, but should they be paid ?)

    Thanks
