  1. Thanks I didn't know that. Looking at the link I saw the bit about puerile riding in the back of pickups but I always thought that was illegal anyway but just never enforced as is still the case now. I knew about the rules on buses but again that wasn't enforced when I travelled a few times on NCA which to be fair is one of the better companies I think. It might be better if as well as the video showing things like their bus being tilt tested with the annoying sickly backing tune they showed one of unbelted passengers being thrown around in a crash. Particularly since passengers not wearing belts are a danger to others including those who wear belts. I actually had to use a nice pink bus from Khon Kaen to Mahasarakham on Thursday. It had no belts that I could see and there were 2 people sitting on small pink stools including one next to the driver.
  2. I don't know but if they haven't included specific legal specifications which wouldn't aurora me then there will be all sorts of creative solutions. Also what's the point of child seats in cars when you've got 2 adults and 1 or 2 children without helmets on a bike. Basically it's extra police funding without having to increase taxes and close loopholes so it's much simpler.
  3. It's a money making opportunity isn't it. Maybe the government is short of money to fund the police so this is the solution. Also why not make wearing a seatbelt in the rear compulsory as well?
  4. The world order does seem to be changing but that was happening anyway. Covid has made it more difficult to fight against it due to economic circumstances so it may be changing more quickly. The idea that Covid has been orchestrated across the globe by China, USA and other Western countries amongst many others to change the world order doesn't seem very likely so I think I'd agree with you
  5. Well according to the evidence yes. Vaccines aren't something new that we're invented in 2020. They've been used for hundreds of years in various forms and have helped save many lives. Polio has almost been eradicated using vaccines.
  6. Who's responsible for the driving test in Thailand? The only reason I've heard for not having the test on the road is because its too dangerous. The fact that those same people are then given a licence even though its too dangerous for them to drive on the road would seem to be illogical.
  7. Agreed. The problem is some of the other members aren't that good either as far as I know.
  8. Well I'm sure a falafel will be welcomed but we'll it achieve much?
  9. I think you've missed the point. We know how the UK state pension works out the fact it doesn't work the same for everyone. At the moment I still get the increase but that could stop if it gets difficult to spend enough time in the UK. I do have s private pension that I haven't taken yet and a property I rent out fortunately.
  10. Masks do work on a motorcycle but you have to use an umbrella as well for the full effect
  11. The issue of cheaper foreign workers being brought in if the minimum wage increases can be stopped by being less racist and nationalistic and applying the minimum wage to all workers.
  12. You won't usually see the CEO or any of the other top executives accepting less pay whatever the circumstances either.
  13. I can see the problem but surely they should charge more barred on how much whatever fuel they use costs. 20% seems a bit high since as you say fuel isn't their only cost.
  14. I don't know if it's still the case but a few years back Thailand was the second largest market for pickup trucks after the US. Given the difference in population and the Thai population isn't that big it's some achievement. There provably wouldn't be so many of the ban on people riding in the back was enforced although the country might collapse if that happened.
  15. In the first example it was assumed to be a confrontation but wasn't. Also a confrontation can end up in serious injury or death, possibly murder. You can always call the police of course. I've no experience of what they would do but there's no harm in trying.
  16. My sister in law had a stroke in the apartment she was staying in whilst looking after her grandson in Bangkok. Apparently someone heard her crying out but did nothing because they thought she was being hit by her husband. She was on her own so she didn't get help until a neighbour she knew realised something was wrong. She was taken to hospital but never recovered. She was 52. Given that sometimes people do need help I hope I would help as this woman did. Actually whilst typing this I remember about 3 years ago at night on a major road into Mahasarakham I was with my wife and her daughter and we saw a man lying in the bike lane but it was too late to stop so we did 2 u turns and as we were arriving we saw anther vehicle stop but then it drove off. I got out to look and he was lying on his back with his hat a few feet away and some food bags in his hand. I couldn't smell alcohol. My wife phoned for an ambulance but they said one was already coming. I guessed this was probably called by whoever was in the other vehicle that stopped. The ambulance arrived and looked him over and he seemed better by then. He lived down the road and he always came to the nearby market just before it closed to get food for his dogs which was what he was carrying. I've no idea what had happened but I don't think he was drunk so maybe he just tripped. If either of those were people that you knew would you rather they were ignored. I understand the problems that can come from helping but that isn't always the case.
  17. I don't smoke anything or vape so it makes no difference to me but this does sound particularly ridiculous even by Thai government standards which are incredibly low in the first place. I've no interest in cannabis either but if he's using it I would suggest banning it straight away in case it's responsible for his stupidity. As far as I'm aware nicotine is a naturally occurring insecticide found in plants which is highly addictive but not harmful in the amounts normally consumed. Other ingredients in vaping products would need to be looked at on an individual basis but most are probably harmless. Tobacco is extremely dangerous so if vaping is banned maybe tobacco should be phased out pretty quickly.
  18. That seems to be an issue with the sentence the cop received rather than with the charges in this case.
  19. I thought they were making a profit now. The full article claims it did last year. 'The company reported a net profit of 55 billion baht in 2021 after debt restructuring, a huge turnaround from net loss of 141 billion baht in 2020.'
  20. No I'm not offended unless it's said in an aggressive or negative manner. Grandad Farang is pushing it a bit though. But I grit my teeth which are still my own. ???? The writer seems to have some serious issues. Complaining of generalising as Chinese or Asian and using USA, West and Europe. One country and the rest so no generalising there then. What about the continual complaints about what to call non whites and homosexual and bisexuals? In the UK there complaints about describing someone as black when they weren't. It should be coloured. Then it shouldn't because that's a word that was used in the US which the UK isn't part of. There was video in the late 60s of rooms to rent that had signs saying 'no blacks, Irish or Gypsies' so why is 'black' ok?. 'Queer' was insulting now it isn't. Now black is written with an uppercase 'B' but white isn't. I seem to remember gays and so some extent non whites complaining that they aren't treated like anyone else due to their colour or sexual orientation which I agreed with. Now they are in their own communities and are allowed to have parades so they can tell everyone how proud they are of it. I'm not sure if those who are white and/or gay are allowed to do that. There are a lot of issues around prejudice but it isn't helped by constantly trying to find something to complain and be offended about. Obviously as I'm on here it's no surprise my wife isn't white. I have to be honest and say there's a lot of pressure on her to be more white but none of it comes from me. It comes from manufacturers making whitening creams and Thai media where all Thais are white unless they are old and poor and living in a village or working for rich Thais with white skin. That and the fact there aren't any clothing adverts using darker skinned Thais as there are in my country is what I find offensive. Sorry about the rant. ????
  21. It would have helped if he hadn't spoken over her so much but he's correct. His actions may well have been patronising, condescending ect but that would have been the case regardless of his gender.
  22. That's not what the article is about. That is more down to the restrictions and requirements to enter Thailand which hopefully will improve soon. The article is about TAT and its well paid employees trying to justify their salaries by dreaming up new ideas that they can announce rather than concentrating on what's already there but postponed. As it say a lot of these should return next year. Until then it's more the general tourism that needs help from easing travel restrictions.
  23. You may be right but I think jumping through hoops might be a bit of a niche sexual perversion. It's this done naked or is there a need for rubber underwear, gimp suit ect. Asking for a friend.
  24. I don't know the figures but I doubt there's a 'good chance of getting banged up'.
