  1. Yes there is but I don't think this is going to be a holiday. If it is then great.
  2. I was going to say they must have been smoking something but to be honest a lack of planning seems commonplace anyway.
  3. Very true but the intent gives us a lot of other things as well. When I'm back in the UK I use it to call my wife and when I'm here I use it to speak to my mother plus other family members and my granddaughters. When I first started calling my then girlfriend in about 2008 I could barely see her sometimes and if it rained then there was no chance.
  4. Strangely at the moment I'm not getting Britishshop ads on here but for some reason I started getting them yesterday on another site. The sight of a Cornish pasty made me really hungry. I even found it more exciting than porn. There's a message there somewhere.
  5. I haven't really kept up with all this but I think it's higher in the UK. If it isn't it soon will be Of course the inflation rate for each section of society are different. Poorer households are usually affected more.
  6. That was my first thought. I think there are 2 English phrases that are a good translation of this plan. Common Sense Bloody Obvious
  7. You could say the same about dangerous drivers, drunk drivers, speeding drivers ect. I live in rural Isaan so I don't know what it's like in cities but I can't remember ever seeing a really aggressive dog here. Either in a city or not. Maybe it's more to do with the people than the dogs.
  8. They would definitely gain from putting their brain in gear before their mouth. If it were the world's first death from an overdose then I can't see that would be a serious problem outside of the person who died and their friends and relatives. There's certainly a need to be careful if you have medical issues. Virtually anything can kill you in excess. Even water.
  9. I've been thinking of an EV as well to replace our 2012 Honda Jazz. The issue as always is range. Most of the time it wouldn't be a problem but we do like to take longer journeys. We could rent for longer trips if it were only occasionally but I'd need to work out if it's funfairs a good idea for us based on the frequency. I've recently found availability to be a problem recently. As for hybrids Honda and Toyota have been making them for years and my own 2009 Prius in the UK which I think is on around 108,000 miles from memory and runs well. Some of this should also feed into EV vehicles. I wish they did a hybrid Fortuner but nabbed they'll go EV soon.
  10. Grand Theft Auto? More seriously how much time is spent on on traffic enforcement and how much on financing the police. I've only seen one food delivery rider without a helmet so maybe outsource to a Grab, Food panda ect joint venture. As for lottery tickets online sales would seem obvious but it will take some employment away from poorer people but will have less affect on the richer middlemen unfortunately.
  11. I've no real interest in this from the point of view of use so I've not looked closely at the rilke but are the rules regarding THC content for businesses only or individuals as well? Businesses can test for THC content levels but is that possible for individuals?
  12. I've only driven through those places once some years ago so I can't help. I am going to Mukdahan this weekend with my wife to see her friend. I hope you find what you're looking for. I notice you seem to want to inflict your anti social behaviour on Thais rather than farangs. I wouldn't have thought you were that anti social if you're joining in that much with Thais and you're on here quite a lot where we are mostly farangs. If you really want to be anti social you're going to need a lot more practice. ???? Good luck with your move and becoming really anti social
  13. I would have thought that you're OK on aircraft as if their maintenance wasn't up to scratch then they wouldn't be able to fly into many other counties. The same would go for pilots. If they were allowed to show the same lack of standards as they do with drivers of vehicles and bikes then yes you should worry. The difference is that aircraft and pilots have to match the standards of other countries.
  14. That's pretty much the definition of a generalisation and it also means it's not entirely untrue. If it were then it would be a fact rather than a generalisation. Most days I have to go to the local market part of which is in a closed off road. It slopes down from the main road and then after a slight dip it's pretty flat for about 100 metres or so. This always has a problem when it rains. Because I'm often there, if it rains in the late afternoon I see when the drains are blocked and I also see them being cleared. I can't remember ever seeing them cleared before the rainy season. Maybe I just keep missing it but that's my experience. It's maintenance after the fact rather than before. The quote about vehicle maintenance was just that and I assume it was based on some experience. I know in my own case that I've heard Thais saying they haven't had their bike or car serviced because why spend the money when there's nothing wrong with it. My brother in law had worn out brake pads on the bike we'd given him. We got them fixed because as far as he was concerned they still worked and he hadn't considered the fact that he was damaging the discs. A lack of foresight is something I see in the UK as well but it just seems far more common here. There are examples on the road where if I see a driver signalling in advance of changing lane rather than one flash at the same time or just afterwards then it's a rarity. Before anyone tries to tell me I don't know the rules in Thailand I've just done the online driving course and I do know that a driver should signal 30 metres before manoeuvring. There's also those drivers who race along a 2 lane road even though they can see that both lanes have slow moving traffic so they have to brake sharply. They don't wear helmets or seatbelts presumably because they can't think ahead to what might happen if they have an accident either through their fault or someone else. I don't know what it's like all over Thailand at any one time but then neither do you. This just what I've seen and others have mentioned as well. On a slightly different note I've noticed in my area roads getting flooded because the rice fields on either side where the water used to flow have been filled in to plant something else. Mainly bananas I think. That's not unusual but it seems to be happening more now. Maybe it's down to the relative price of rice and bananas.
  15. I think they were treated 5th then went to 2nd and may be back to 5th again. Still with a bit of effort. 'To be Number One'
  16. Thanks. I wasn't bad for us unless you count waiting for a car but there was flooding and my wife helped out. Probably because she's a civil government worker and they tend to get sent out I think. Her office sent out a load of staff when one of them had part of her house blow down in a storm.
  17. Well a lot of people mention something similar and I've seen it myself but if you know better then fine.
  18. I wasn't here for a lot of that but I know my wife sent pictures from where she was helping out and I saw the pictures on here. We bought our Honda Jazz that year and because of the flooding of some of the factories and stored new cars we had to wait 6 months for the car. Then we had to wait 7 months for 2 thin metal plates with numbers on to put on either end.
  19. Weather patterns normally change from year to year so it may be just that but there's probably also a longer term change taking place. If it's that wet now then your prediction sadly is probably correct. I don't know where you are but here in Mahasarakham the main reservoir seems pretty full and some close by are the same. The ponds on our land and the one next door are pretty dry however.
  20. We've had bouts of rain up here including yesterday. We had one a couple of weeks ago and I saw a guy near the market clearing the drains but that was after it flooded. I suspect this is the normal procedure. I remember a comment on here a few years ago that was related to vehicle maintenance but I think it fits here as well. "To most of us maintenance is what we do to stop a vehicle breaking down. To Thais its what you do after it breaks down.
  21. I don't know how it works here but normally an insurance company would have to pay something but they would be within their rights to substantially reduce any compensation if the victim was partly responsible for their own injuries. Something people don't always seem to be aware of.
