  1. :) let the fun begin.... my only worry is we have had next to no water pressure in the city mains in rawai for a few weeks now... might make for a dry-ish day.

5000 ltr tank won't last long.

    :D Happy Songkran 2010 :D

  2. Arrived back into phuket yesterday, unsure of when I fly out again so keep me posted on the fishing comp, I will try to get down to rawai on the 13th, first day of songkran so should be a terror for driving. let us know what time things are organised for.

    Warren.

we start songkran early morning in front of the Fishing Club, lots of fun all day long as it is the main drag on Rawai beach road, there will be some bbq ribs and chicken, to keep everyone some what sober.....

  3. I was reading post by hollywood3000, got closed right quick as expected but as i am bored and the wife is sleeping I started to write a response to his post prior to the post being closed, here is a quote from the original post followed by my two bits......

What is purpose of documentary? I am sure you have some sort of premise or objective to achieve?

It's to shed light on the differences between Western women and Asian women. It tells the stories of a wide variety of men who discovered Asian women and Asian culture and decided it was a better fit for them. It tells the stories of the Asian wives and GF's and why they chose a foreigner over a Asian man. It shatters the old myths about mixed marriages and "mail order brides" and explains the new connection of the east and west through the internet, (edited)Skype and webcams. But most of all it shows that Western/Asian relationships can and do work and in many ways are far better that western/western relationships.

    :)

Interesting, though I don't agree that western/Thai relationships work any better than western/western.

In comparison there are but a few western/Thai relationships in Thailand consummated outside of go-go bars, which I believe is the reason so few work any better than western/western relationships.

I think that if met under 'normal' circumstances there is a better chance for the westerner to have a lasting relationship with an Asian woman.

Outside of Thailand and within the kingdom the stigma attached to the foreigners with Thai wife young or old is also part of the reason for marriage failure as well as the immense cultural differences.

There is stigma attached to the Thai lady within the kingdom as well, not so much now as twenty years ago.

When I first came to Thailand 1989 I had a Thai girlfriend, yes met her in nana plaza Bangkok traveled around and ended up in living in Phuket for 8 months, daily she was ridiculed for having Isaan features, they the local south Thai would say to her you Lao and cut their nose off with a sweeping motion of their hand!

She did not like this and said she would get a nose job as soon as she had the money. In my books certainly did not need a nose job as she was absolutely gorgeous.

I thought of spending more time with her, even taking her back to the west, but after 9 months of living together I knew she would be so home sick for somtam; the relationship would not last. If I stayed in Phuket the relationship would not have lasted as I was down to my last few thousand dollars….

Thai women are amazing to the average male new comer; they become handsome kings in a land of a million gorgeous princesses!

For the more seasoned visitor/expat of Thailand they are treated with or with out respect depending on the man. Respect for the fact that 'no money no honey' really does apply in most bargirl westerner 'relationships'.

Don't get me wrong there are many that have loving supportive relationships with Thai bargirls. But history shows that most fail miserably, that is for the kings who fall from their throne and return home with next to nothing.

There are those that know how to play the game; 'pay and play' I call it, whether for an hour, night or a few months, they expect nothing more and nothing less, generally they have a good time. But at the end of the day most of them tell me how they would like to have a long term relationship. I reply yup, and when I hear them tell me of the latest conquest I secretly envy their unattached lifestyle.

I have been married and living in Thailand almost 5 years with my Thai wife, 2 years more and we will be over the hump as they say……. Wow can we make it?

Do I think I have a better relationship with my Thai wife than I did or would with a western woman; no it's all hard work. Same Same but Different.. Just have to remember to smile and look both ways twice ways before crossing the road.

But at the end of the day I love her and that's nice.

I also love Thailand for many reasons that unfortunately here in Phuket are fading fast, too fast.

    .

    PS

After some thought while proofing this I come to think that with the growing number of retired western men settling in Thailand and having a much a younger 'wife' the success rate may be on the rise as these woman know that they will live longer and gain more by being good little housewives.

With time any relationship between two individuals grows strong in love and support regardless of cultural differences, so maybe yes, maybe your right that western/Asian is better…? Who would not be happier with a generally good looking Buddhist care-provider in the retirement years?

  4. Hollywood, I think your onto something here, you need not pay to interview as you are doing it here on ThaiVisa, as a good percent of TV members have Thai wives and spend there time here instead of with their wives. good luck with the doco, keep me/us posted

    Quote Bukowski:

    BEER

from: Love is A Mad Dog From hel_l

I don't know how many bottles of beer

I have consumed while waiting for things

    to get better

I dont know how much wine and whisky

    and beer

    mostly beer

    I have consumed after

    splits with women-

waiting for the phone to ring

waiting for the sound of footsteps,

    and the phone to ring

waiting for the sounds of footsteps,

    and the phone never rings

    until much later

    and the footsteps never arrive

    until much later

when my stomach is coming up

    out of my mouth

they arrive as fresh as spring flowers:

"what the hel_l have you done to yourself?

it will be 3 days before you can fuc_k me!"

    the female is durable

she lives seven and one half years longer

than the male, and she drinks very little beer

because she knows its bad for the figure.

    while we are going mad

    they are out

    dancing and laughing

    with horney cowboys.

    well, there's beer

sacks and sacks of empty beer bottles

and when you pick one up

the bottle fall through the wet bottom

    of the paper sack

    rolling

    clanking

    spilling gray wet ash

    and stale beer,

or the sacks fall over at 4 a.m.

    in the morning

making the only sound in your life.

    beer

    rivers and seas of beer

    the radio singing love songs

    as the phone remains silent

    and the walls stand

    straight up and down

and beer is all there is.

  5. Just to keep everyone in the loop: I am busy with Songkran coming up, we have a big party at the fishing club on the 13th and may go north to visit mum for a week, so after Neill arrives on April 21st we can pick a date, good for me are one of these days; monday 26th, tuesday 27th, wednesday 28th. Or early May mid week.

  6. drink lots of water:bring an empty 1.5 ltr plastic bottle with you so you can avoid asking for water every hour, empty as they will not allow a full bottle on board, you can ask the steward to fill it for you.

Ear plugs, never thought this was true but someone told me the noise adds to the jetlag, I swear by them now, make sure i have a good set with me, the stewards can give you a set from first class if you forget.

Get up and walk around the plane do some stretching, knee squats, etc.

Lastly I try to adjust the internal clock before departure and resetting the internal clock by forced sleep on arrival, this is where a sleeping pill can help.

Flying from North america to asia or vice versa is always harder than flying from asia to australia, time change is 13hrs dif compared to 3hrs.

  7. toyota vios goes for 14,500 - 16,000 from the local rental agent in naiharn/rawai, 1st class insurance, if you take it for three months and pay in advance.

It goes like this, 1st class insurance 20,000 a yr, monthly payment 8000+- no one is going to rent a car and watch it depreciate without making profit.

Rent a car for a day 1000B+ and drive around checking rental shops, make a deal on three months.

Send me a private message and i will give you a contact number.

    Cheers,

  8. after extensive research, i bought a plasma. Picture quality with cable is far better with plasma. I had a chance to veiw the two side by side with cable feed hands down plasma is better.

Two months ago I paid 19,900 at homepro for a 42" LG.

    Works good for me.

LED is all the rage now if you can afford it, picture is so much more clear than Plasma or LCD, as far as picture quality with cable could not say as i never asked.

LED consumes less energy and creates next to no heat, as well as being only an inch thick!!

The guys at homepro are pretty good at what they do, there is one guy in particular that is very good his name is Nu speaks fairly good english.

I imagine in a year LED prices will come down.

    Good luck,

  11. We went to see LP Supha last week, looking very well, he is doing great for 113 1/2 year old.

    Copied from the Phuket Gazette:

"PHUKET CITY: A revered Buddhist monk preparing to celebrate his 113th birthday could be the world’s oldest living man.

Luang Pu Supha, abbot of Luang Pu Supha temple in Chalong, has presented the Gazette with copies of government-issued identification papers showing that he was born in Sakon Nakhon province, in the the northeast of Thailand, on September 17, 1896.

The birth date makes Luang Pu Supha four days older than American Walter Breuning, who currently claims the Guinness World Records’ title of ‘Oldest Living Man’."

  12. Yesterday arvo we managed to get out fro a few hours of bottom bouncing southern end of Racha Noi, ride out was smooth, set the anchor at 29 meters right on top of the pinnacle, some fish showing on the fishfinder.......two handlines; bait fresh squid, Warren chose to use his rod and a pilchard with large snapper weight, 45 minutes later his rod went off. Result was nice sized Turrum about 5KG

A big black cloud darkened the sky.... swept with high winds and big chop. Pulled the pick and headed for home. Two hours later sitting in the Rawai Beach Fishing Club enjoying a cold beer.

    Better luck next time.

One fish is still better than none.

I think Warren sold the fish to his mother-in-law. LOL

    Why

i hesitate to reply, spell check seems to be on the frits....just another thing some members use in a barrage of assaults' on newbie's and regular users in Thaivisa forums…. i have been perusing these topics when bored and find many of the same members bashing newbie's and anyone for any plausible reason. Shame on you lot as you know who you are, get a life. Get a grip. Piss off.

The original question is easy to answer; Phuket is a tropical paradise with all the modcons of a developed country, lovely beaches, dining, shopping, water sports galore to mention a few of the attractions.

Here you can rent a 2 bedroom house with a pool for 15,000 baht to 500,000 baht a month. You can still get a maid, a gardener and pool boy for 8000 baht each a month.

You can have a five course meal for 300 baht or 30,000 baht.

Phuket has the best of both worlds.

In regards to Thailand being a turd world country, whoops that only applies to India. Third world country in my opinion is a country that most of the citizens earn much less than a developed country. The majority of Thailand earns pittance compared to developed western countries.

Long ago, well actually not so long ago Phuket used to be called the Pearl of the south, now some label it the Diamond of Thailand.

No one can rightfully compare Phuket to Thailand it is an economic entity of its own, within a very much repressed and poor country, if you look at the countries majority of residents…

The majority of people who have benefited in Phuket from this economic boom are outsiders and a few lucky locals.

I love it here, most Thais are incredible gentle warm caring helpful peaceful people but there are times when I miss the probability of the west. Here (Thailand) I am not sure what will happen from day to day, maybe this is part of the attraction.

I also recognize that there are times when I feel Phuket has gotten too crazy, traffic, pollution, crime, corruption, everywhere I turn the forest are getting cleared shop houses replace them, it's getting hot too bloody hot, lack of trees?

Oh well that's enough from me, finally my eyes are getting tired, my frustrations with my staff are almost forgotten, I am ready to hit the hay and back at it for another day of reaping the rewards of running a restaurant/bar in the land of smiles. LOL :)

Anyone know of a cashier? My night cashiers boyfriend/sugardaddy returns in a week, she was nice enough to tell me she is quitting when he gets back… now that's a rarity!!

  13. :) Hello fellow fishermen,

just went out this afternoon to the Phuket Fishing Park and made arrangements to organize a fishing comp.

Once i have enough interest i will set the date.

500 Baht Entry fee includes buffet lunch.

All equipement included or bring your own. There are hook and bait restrictions.

Rawai Beach Fishing Club will sponsor the event and if the turn out is good we will do it every month.

Prizes will be according to attendance but do not worry there will be some excellent prizes.

Those of you who are interested please reply.

  14. The price of fish has stayed pretty much the same (except when the fuel prices went up) over the past 5 years depending mostly on supply as some fish numbers are higher at certain times of the month and year, here is the general price: king mackeral when purchasing less than 10 kilo runs about 170+- baht kilo, I bought 27 kilo (3 fish) last week for my restaurant and got the price down without asking to 130Baht a kilo.

Red snapper 150 to 230 baht kilo depending how many kilo you buy and the size of the snapper, coral trout same as snapper more or less, spangled emporer 100 to 150 baht kilo.

prawns are a good buy but mostly farmed, sea run prawns are much tastier in my opinion you pay a bit more but worth it. extra large 300gram tiger prawns are about 800 to 1000 baht a kilo

farmed large 3-4" prawns about 150 to 200 depends as the price changes on supply available.

As for finding fish in the market at this stage there is nothing to worry about, the fishing grounds are plenty but the local grounds get hit hard as there is a very large fishing fleet here.

Look forward to welcoming you to the club.

We are planning big party on the 1st of May: there will be a BBQ, live Music, a great raffle with the 1st prize two nights in a villa suite on Cape Panwa, 2nd prize is a day out on Ocean Hunter the clubs 6.2 meter purpose built fishing boat, and lots of other good prizes.

    Everyone is welcome
