  1. Hi Im looking for a good clean guest house in the area of Bankapi close to the mall if possible. Price between 600 - 1000 baht per night. Any ideas? web links would be great

    www.metropointbangkok.com

A little more than the OP requested :o

BT - sorry I can not help.

web site quotes more expensive.......starts 690 baht.delux 890 baht.stay 5 nights after that 50% discount for 3 month period.....brand new hotel only opened since late dec......nice place

  2. syd ive seen several do what you say ,i paid particular attention to one man he goes every evening ,he ate 2 bowles of chicken mushroom soup ,one large plate of pasta with garlic topping , 2 pints of coke , full plate of salad , full plate of fruit and 2 mouse deserts to finish it off , not bad for 149 baht .. and this man is not alone.im not a big fan of salads but the salad you can get in there is very good ,the selection is huge and fresh.........

Coke is not included in the price of the salad bar.

42 baht for top up drink .as many as you want.i think salad bar and drink together comes to 160or less

  3. I met a woman cleaning tables at a roadside foodstall in BKK when I first came to Thailand. She remarked that she could earn more money working in Pattaya as a bar-girl and keep her family in luxury. I asked her why she didn't take up that oppertunity. Her reply was 'no matter how poor one is there are somethings one shouldn't lower themselves to do', or words to that affect. I have to agree with her. I think being a bar-girl is cop out for lazy women who want the easy option.

She had very good English for a local working cleaning tables at a roadside stall. Must have had a Brit boyfriend to be talking of ONE self :D

If you read it as I wrote it Byoung you will see I never used quotation marks and added "or words to that effect". I hope that clears things up a little as one wouldn't want to confuse one.

Thanks coventry. That does clarify things. I was just pushing your buttons :o

I respect women that are willing to work hard for a living in a menial job when they could get easier money elsewhere (regardless of how good their english is). But I also understand the situation some women find themselves in that leads to 'certain' types of more lucrative work.

Whilst I do not condone it or participate in contributing to their income I have a problem with people who sit on their high pedestal and pass judgement when they don't know what the circumstances are that lead that woman to feel she had to, or is better off, working in such a line of work. Maybe she was abused as a child? Maybe she was led to believe she was good for nothing and this is the only line of work she is good enough for? Or as you say, maybe she is just plain lazy. But I don't think it's fair to tarnish every woman in such a 'profession' with the same brush.

Not a personal dig at you though :D

I thought this topic was about giving money to girlfriends, not moral judgements on how girls earn a living.

I for one have no moral standpoint on a girl selling her body, if she is doing no harm, then I feel it is stupid that there be laws against it.

I do have an opinion on idiots who send these girls money though. For some reason, they forget that she is a prostitute and somehow have the idea that she is their girlfriend. They are one of her customers.

Now if a man meets a prostitute and decides to support her so that she is able to give up her line of work. Fair enough - if that's what happens. More often than not though, she carries on selling her body and dupes other idiots into thinking that they are saving her from the life she chooses.

A girl who lies and cheats in order to get more than 1 man to send her money is no better than a thief.

Those of you who say good for her... What about the man who comes from a poor background who rips the gold from your neck, steals your motorbike or burgles your home? Do you also say "Good for him"?

well said fair play to u...........honesty.......alot of guys come out here and fall for them blind,,i dont blame them i did myself at first until i wised up to their way.....i rem this one i was with first time i came here ..when i got back to my home country i got email straight away from her ,,it didnt say how are you etc ,,she dived straight in saying can you send me money here is my bank acc number etc...that really turned me,,but it was a good lesson for me 8 years ago ....

Is it possible to go into Sizzlers and just opt for salad and gorge out on that only. Because I have a suspicion that some people do this, and obtain protein from the mini eggs and kidney beans and carbohydrates from potatoes etc.

  12. No apology required. I thought your post was well balanced but the original post may have benefitted from the reason you were out at that time of the morning. MJD is just an opportunist tw4t who will no doubt claim that you are a Brit and therefore it is all 100% your fault.

I spent over a year on the darkside and enjoyed it very much. I never encountered any problems but my naivity may have helped ! Those who advice getting a car want to try driving down Soi Nernplubwan/Klang and they will understand the benefits of a bike - not to mention parking.

Nevertheless, I fear that there will be a continuing growth in these sorts of incidents and it can help if people like you are prepared to recount their stories.

It could have been a lot worse for you.

Too true and thanks for that.

I'm home early tonight by a devious route. It was a very scary experience and it's made me think a lot. I believe if I'd stopped or been stopped I would have lost the bike plus some other stuff worth about 50,000 baht (please nobody tell me.....I know) plus bank cards and perhaps suffered personal injury if I'd crashed or been attacked. Perhaps they could even have forced me to empty the ATM - who knows. I just knew I didn't intend to stop. Perhaps many years riding m/bikes and having one with gears and reasonable power helped, but I know I was very lucky.

I've made a lot of mistakes in my 2 years here and where I live may well be one of them given my other circumstances, so I have to have a rethink.

My reluctance to use the car, apart from convenience, is due to what can happen to you when a Thai decides to throw his bike at you. My incident was minor, but have a read through this (where you can also find my tale). http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/Motorcycle-A...on-t233572.html

In criticising some of the posts here I decided it was prudent to let others decide whom I was referring to. It certainly did not include that from basjke, whose sarcasm I appreciated (thanks for pm).

Surely we have to post such experiences here for the benefit of others and surely we don't need the smart assed posters stating the bleeding obvious eg. 4.30am is late duhhhhhhhhhhh

Anyway, no purpose served by arguing with them. I hope the incident has been of interest to some and has served to make them think about things they do, as indeed it has me.

sorry to hear what happened ,if we cant wear a simple gold chain ?? thats bad .we all have to live ,we just have to be street smart ..we cant all turn into mice and be in bed by 9 and let all the thai criminals do what ever they want after dark, get a big bike join a local mc club . these pussies wont mess with you then coz they know they will have more than you to answer too ,i dont believe in carrying weapons ,but if all this crime going on keep rising then it might be an option...a small mace spray can would be good to have or a little revolver lol :o .50.....i forgot to say where is this darkside every one keeps referring to ????????

  14. am sure pattaya will be fine, the council want to make it more family friendly so maybe over time the beer bars between beach road and second road may be made to go and push back towards third road, leave walkin st. alone probably.but in my opinion these go go bars and bear bars should have better licencing hours and in return should be made to upgrade their facilities so that they do not remain a "hole in the wall"

I see from your username that you come from the once attractive and pleasant, but become a right sh** ho** island, completely destroyed by greedy ignorant developers and covered in expensive ugly concrete. if that's what you want for Pattaya, please think again. For the umpteenth time, we don't want families in Pattaya, they're bad for business.

The only thing that needs to happen to the bars is less regulation.

you havent looked at whats going on around you lately by the looks of it, the bars are disappearing off beach road and second road every week ,they (the govt) are building shopping malls hotels etc to try and encourage families ,they must think they have bigger spending power than the farang looking for cheap hotels and cheap freelancers along the beach etc...are they wrong to do this ????????

Yes cos when they have finished building all the Malls and shophouses.. Pattaya will just resemble BKK with a dirty beach.. If all the cities and islands in Thailand end up being exactly the same there would be no point to visit them... Go check out what they have done to Koh Chang in the last few years.. From beautiful island (when I first visited in 1990) to a strip of hotels, shops and resorts that obscure the beach .. 'Indian' tailors, Irish pubs, Cafe's and internet shops... <deleted> ! It's meant to be a beautiful natural island.. Not a foookin shopping center... Why not leave the islands for people that want peace, quiet and unspoilt natural beauty... If you need a Mall, fancy hotel, cafe culture and worst an Irish pub.. Stay in BKK or better still your own country... Thailand is fast running out of what brought peple here in the first place... As for Pattaya.. I like many long termers here have seen it get worse over the years.. Service has disapeared along with the smiles, traffic congestion is terrible, violence, crime have increased while quality of life has suffered.. Worse still even if I move down the coast I know that in a couple of year all the greedy developer types and desperate 'entreprenuers' will arrive and proceed to bu**er up that part of Thailand too...

and worst an Irish pub........whats wrong with an irish pub ?theyre better than the english ones ....most irish pubs there are owened by english anyway trying to cash in on the irish name.......

I think they are. There really is nothing attractive here for families. The beaches are dirty the infrastructure poor, and who comes to a beach/nightlife resort to go shopping anyway?

i agree with you but im just saying this is how the thai govt are seemingly thinking by the looks of it..there must be some one shopping with the new central festival just opened ,royal garden plaza ,big c s,mikes shopping mall to name just a few ,im just back from there a week ago and i couldnt believe there was so many families there ,i never noticed such a high rate before ,im going there this 8 years, you have to remember too there is some very wealthy thais living in pattaya now too
