  1. Religion is at the heart of this matter , as it is in virtually every conflict involving human suffering.... Islamic fundamentalists in incidents like this, proselytising Christians like the doddery old fool Pope telling the poor and vulnerable they couldn't use condoms, Jews trying to force people to live as they might have done 2,000 years ago , nutty Hindus, Buddhists and Sikhs tearing countries apart. Century after century of religious violence, for 2,000 years. Religions have a few areas of common ground: they ALL seek to control through the acquisition of power. No one is better than another...shysters the lot of them, all engaged in forms of voodoo not far advanced from the reading of tea leaves or the entrails of chickens.

Man will never be free until the last king is strangled with the entrails of the last priest.

  2. Time to move biggrin.png

Just seen the thread title about absurd waiting times at Chaeng Wattana wink.png

I went to Chaeng Wattana on the 20th November arrived just before 8-30 a.m and then the doors opened. Completed extension to my retirement visa, multiple entry and 90 day reporting and out by 11 a.m. with my passport stamped etc. The lady at the ticket desk even photocopied my just acquired retirement visa to add to my documents for the multiple entry visa. The multiple entry visa was probably the longer procedure with a longer queue.

  3. This is the West's fault.

They Taliban launched this attack hours after that girl got awarded the Nobel peace price. Think about that for a second. The West have made a martyr out of her.

I think when you make a martyr you have to kill them which is something the Taliban attempted before she got the Nobel Prize.

  4. My heart weeps

I'll save the Islamist Taqiyya apologists some time and list the usual excuses:

1 These were not the actions of a true muslim

2 The Americans made them do it

3 islam is a peacful religion ipso facto these are not the actions of a true follower

4 The Israelis made them do it

5 The majority of muslims are peaceful

6 and one of the latest "I'll not accept this has anything to do with islam until someone in authority tells me it is"

I'm sure I missed a few but most will by now be familiar with the usual dhimmi excuses

You certainly know how to be offensive, I would like to know why us British have been excluded from your list?

  5. I agree both sides, the public/police and also the criminals should all be allowed to carry guns.

I seem to recal a similar argument in favour of an escalation in the number of nuclear weapons.

The policy was called Mutually Assured Destruction, more commonly recognised by its acronym MAD.

Criminals will carry guns whether they are "allowed to" on not.

    Remember, they are criminals.

That is why violent thugs are the greatest supporters of gun control.

Removes a lot of the risk in the business plan.

That's funny, why is it that there are so many more gun murders in countries that have more guns? The criminals all carry at the same rates in all countries, so they should be using guns to kill people just as often in the low-gun nations (or the low-gun states) as in the high-gun naions, right?

So why is it that your little attempt at logic is actually proved false by every bit of data out there?

If you re-read the last line of my post, I think you will get the point I was attempting (obviously very badly) to make.

More guns, more weapons of any kind, MAD, totally MAD.

I really think that unless you put it in CAPS (THIS IS A JOKE) then its lost on a lot of people. If you intend irony, sarcasm etc then I was told it needs some sort of smiley to make your intention clear. Policemen firing their guns at a bag snatcher it beggars belief.

  6. Without a smiley earlier we might just think you are back-pedalling now!

    At last someone gets it.

Oh dear, don't you think there are enough guns and gun crime about in Thailand?

Surely that is the argument put forward, to make you feel safer we need lots more guns. After all I feel a whole lot safer when I see someone walk into a coffee shop or hardware shop with an automatic rifle strapped over his shoulder.

This is either a gee up or your a red neck American. I not to sure which!!!

Sorry but you can read any of my previous posts and I never use them. Also this subject has come up previously and I have always thought the NRA stance on this is just about as insane as you can get.

  7. The sooner that civilians are allowed to carry arms the better what is needed is a Thai NRA, no more punch ups.

Is this an attempt of trolling or are you a serious believer that having "ammo" on the Christmas wish list is the solution to all problems? Don't you think that the list of people killed by guns in Thailand and the US is already too high?

We already got fat from your country's fine "cuisine", we do not need importing lunatic institutions like the NRA. More guns on the street is never the answer as any civilized person would argue.

I'll give you a clue, I am not from the USA but a place where people are not allowed to carry guns and I suspect the majority have no wish to do so.

So, a tourist could then hypothetically arm themselves after arriving in Thailand, even though it would be against the laws of their country of origin?

Wonder would visa exempt also cover that?

Sometimes, a little more time spent on the drawing board produces better statements don't you think?

I was actually trying to make the point that the NRA makes every time there is a shooting that somehow rather than fewer guns a better solution is more guns.

  10. The sooner that civilians are allowed to carry arms the better what is needed is a Thai NRA, no more punch ups.

Firearms are used in a public space with the result that an innocent person got wounded.

And your solution is to introduce more firearms?

I have trouble following your reasoning.

Sorry its probably a bit early in the morning but I always enjoy the argument that's put forward that somehow more guns make us safer. As if to reinforce this point we have people in the USA strolling into malls etc fully armed in order to protect this right. Just the thought of being in a cafe and seeing guys strolling through the door with automatic weapons makes me feel a whole lot safer as you can imagine.

  11. Make up your minds, Dems. Was it a false claim of WMD's or was it a false claim about Al Qaeda?

    Keep your stories straight.

Is there some reason it can't be both? It was a total pack of lies to accomplish a predetermined goal. I remember the first time I heard Cheney's sabre-rattling in the summer of 2002, when he said Saddam was supporting Al Qaeda. It made no sense to me. I said to myself, "Saddam's is a secular regime, surely not friendly to the religious fundamentalists of AQ." Another immediate thought was, "What happened to the no-fly zone after the first war with Iraq? That country was under intense surveillance for 11 years, not even allowed to fly over their own country. Then suddenly they have 'weapons of mass destruction?' Who dropped the ball?"

I listened for answers to my questions throughout the autumn of 2002 (I was living in the US), but all we heard was fear-mongering. Anyone who attempted to question the party line (using the term loosely, as both political parties were complicit) was branded "unpatriotic." The story (or stories if you prefer) never added up, but the American people are sheep who will be frightened into submission rather than be labeled unpatriotic.

I'm not a pacifist, I thought that going after the Taliban in Afghanistan was the proper thing to do, given their support for AQ (not to mention the slavery of their women). War is a serious decision, and needs powerful (and true) reasons. The reasons for attacking Iraq were absent, and these revelations are long overdue.

So you thought it right to go into Afghanistan? Even though, the Taliban had said they would co-operate in finding Bin Laden and had just asked for evidence against him.US could not produce any. Would Saudi Arabia not have been more appropriate to invade, if 9/11 blame and women's rights are justification for bombing civilians?

I recall the offer from the Taliban, did you really think that it was a serious offer?

  12. I have purchased quite a few things online from Apple Thailand

They seem to actually ship out of Singapore but it arrives quite quickly and sometimes by courier and sometimes via Thai Post.

Their estimates on arrival times are quite conservative in my experience and the articles usually arrive earlier than they say.

    Regards

I ordered the IPhone 6 plus 128GB model and that is 4 weeks. Almost two weeks now but I agree with most here who say normally it arrives well within the time they tell you.

  13. I just love the headline, for those who do not have english as their first language, it could be a little bewildering, as "thwart" is not a commonly used word.

But for me, I just love the picture it paints, "Off out to Walking St tonight darling, not be home late, just going to thwart a few ladyboys, you know I like to give them a good thwarting!"

I recall reading in the Pattaya Mail several years ago some article about a couple of local wenches, that conjured up a vision Shakespearean England.

  14. Obama uses a gilded tongue instead of slick willies perchance of talking in riddles, did he ever admit to a sexual encounter outside his marrage??The both are abount as believable as the little boy who cried wolf. Both are sorry excuses to lead a nation and have future generations look at them in awe'Just hope the history books print the truth for all to see. Both the leadership and personel records of all political people etc. should be made public in their lifetime prior to entering a position of trust and after they have left such position

Good idea that would have disqualified FDR and Eisenhower.
