Actually, according to our data at the time it was mostly coming from Thai and other regional (Singapore, Cambodia, Burma, etc) IP addresses. There already existed many places to discuss world news, but not among other expats in the region. Many news stories had a different perspective for expats than it did for people back home. Pensions for instance. A minor change in the UK for instance might have an outsized effect to expats in Thailand because of exchange rates. Many people who lived in Thailand had homes and investments back home, as well as family who were affected by events there. There's also a considerable number of people who live in Thailand, but work on contracts abroad, particularly in the petroleum industry.

At one time, back in the Thaivisa days it was only Thai news, but overwhelming demand from members changed that. We couldn't take down what was "off topic" world news content as fast as people were posting it, so we gave in to what was a clear demand. It's sectioned off from the Thai news though, so nobody's forced to read through it if they aren't interested.

Getting tired of people using the report button for things that can be dealt with by presenting a counter-argument. As I've said a zillion time, moderators are not here to fight your battles. Saying things you disagree with or being "wrong" are not against the rules.

Removed a couple posts. Normally when someone insults another member, then reports that person for responding, we'll suspend the first one for causing the problem in the first place. But it's Christmas so I'll just warn them both to stop it.

Removed a number of posts for: Commenting on moderation. Name calling. Posts that made otherwise valid information, but also ridiculed or laughed at others. This is an informational thread that's valuable to a great many readers. We won't hesitate to remove those who ruin that value with their petty childlike squabbles. If you can't participate without name calling and ridicule, your input is not welcome. UPDATE: Several people completely ignored this post and proceeded to do all of the above right after this warning and they have now been removed as promised. Zero tolerance for more of that behaviour.
