  1. I haven't seen it posted if Jakrapod himself has been charged with lese majeste for the contents of this speech? If not, how could facilitating the further disemination of the speech be considered lese majeste?

The issue of the lese majeste laws have been discussed ad-nasuem here and in the press. The main problem being the unusual practice (at least to my knowledge) that private persons are allowed to file criminal complaints under the Thai legal system. That, and the fact that many matters that would be civil in nature are criminal offenses in Thailand.

The proposal awhile back to not allow private complaints (at least in lese majeste cases) but to vest investigation and charging powers in such cases to an independent office in the Thai Justice Ministry would seem to be the way to go.

Sorry, but attempting to change lese majeste law can be consider lese majeste by itself. TIT

  2. These bonds are offered for sale at many commercial banks, rather than investment banks.

I went to TMB and two branches of Kasikorn bank today asking if I, as a foreigner, can buy these Thai government bonds. TMB said no, Thai citizens only. Kasikorn at Central World said sure I can buy them, but I should buy at a branch that opens early, because they sell out fast. I went to the Kasikorn branch on Sathorn near Rama IV, and was told they were available to Thai citizens only. She pointed to the words in her bond manual, so I think she is probably correct. It is often difficult to find the true bottom line about these things, though.

Don't even border trying to buy it. I was at the bank at 7:30 queing for the door to open at 8:30. I was number 5 on the queue. It did not reach me, only 3 person got it. It turn out the bank staff key in the sales to their preferred big client before they open the door.

I was told that this is a common practice. Some how I suspect that the bank staff must get something out of this pref treatment. However I have no proof. But with the eco as it today, I don't blame the staff much.

  3. "Thais Ok With Corrupted Government, many Thai people would accept a crooked government

So, you we blame that the thai govt are corrupted?

Or should be look at the root cause: Thais people are OK with corrupted government, so it is OK for the govt to be corrupted as mandated by 80% of the voters.

  4. They weren't arrested because they surrendered by themselves. Yes, they were charged and are on bail, just like the reds. However they (yellows) didn't kill people or destroy property, they only inconvenienced tourists with The Airport Blockade™.

And before everyone starts beating on THAT dead horse again, airports get randomly blocked/shut down by protesters (or people on strike) all around the world. Even in the mighty U.S. of A. or in "highly civilized" Western European countries. And it does NOT kill tourism. Street rioting, burning buses, gas tankers placed in front of apartment blocks etc however speak a vastly different language, one that people DO understand - and stay away from places where it happens.

As most of you understand the universal language "soccer" respective "football", lets say this is a match red vs. yellow, most destruction wins:

Tourism effects - 2:1 for red

Property damage - 1:0 for red

    Kills - 5:0 for red

Public disaster - 3:1 for red

    More questions?

  5. out of love of HM, does that make her a bad person?

Prove this was done out of love of HM!! and not for a different reason.

If I read the OP correctly and excuse the paraphrasing, the charges are being laid against the FCCT for selling DVDs, as the DVDs' contain content which 'insult' the monarchy namely the infamous speech given by Jakrapob.

If the content of the DVD is therefore the source of the charge, is it not therefore reasonable to conclude that website which provide the content of the speech i.e. youtube etc (and there are many others). should be charged under the same law.

If so, why single out the FCCT for individual treatment? Web availablity provides far wider distribution and anyone with half a brain can access it. Unlike the DVDs at the FCCT which were sold to members only?

As far as the source for providing the content of the speech, isn't that the FCCT itself? Don't they record their meetings themselves? The youtube etc. only display submitted videos, they don't provide the content and that would have been the FCCT-produced video.

If the FCCT produced and sold the video of a speech by Jakrapob and Jakrapob's case is determined to be that of lese majeste, then it follows that FCCT would be guilty of distributing it. This case will depend upon the outcome of Jakrapob's case.

Point taken. But, and maybe I'm being pedantic here, isn't the act of displaying the material through the web a form of distribution, albeit via a third party.

Also if I were to have recorded, say on a mobile phone, the speech and downloaded it onto a website or burnt it to DVD, then depending on the outcome of the Jakrapobs trial, would I be culpable in the same way as I would be the source? I recorded it, I uploaded it, I provided it.

The reason I'm interested is that as we all have cameras and other gadgets built into our phones, we have an ability to record and present information in a way like never before. I'm worried that the powers that be are worried by this and will try to make a legal precedent out of the FCCT along the lines of distributing inappropriate 'news / discussion' is punishable by law, which effectively holds back future 'grass roots' discussion of the future of the monarchy in Thailand.

Additionally, it seems to me that the issue isn't so much distributing and or selling the DVD's, but rather twisting the spirit of the Leese Majest law to punish the FCCT for allowing Jakrapob to speak on this topic.

Just like the Economist distributor in thailand. Whenever there is an article within mentioning the King, the distributor in thailand don't distribute that issue to avoid such charges

If the Economist distributor can do that, why can't FCCT? Farang never learn do they?

  6. Veera said Thaksin phoned in during the red-shirt rally last Saturday and complained about being homesick, lonely and wanting his supporters to help him return to the country.

What's that BS all about? He can come home at any time. He holds a Thai passport, right?

Why seeking the help from his supporters? I am speechless! :)

Actually I think his Thai passport was revoked if that is the right word, anyway he can't use it anymore, That's why he has several others. Of course he can still come home but what he wants is to come home and not go to jail.

Since he no longer have a Thai passport? Will he need to get a visa to come back to Thailand?

Does he need to the the visa run every 90 days whil he is in prison in Thailand?

Best to lock him up in one of the border prison so he can walk across to neighboring country & back for his visa run.

  7. UAE set to pounce on Thaksin

MANAMA : The United Arab Emirates has promised to expel ousted prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra and send him to Thailand if he is found in Dubai. While the two countries do not have an extradition treaty, there is a reciprocal arrangement that allows for the exchange of fugitives.

The issue was raised in talks yesterday between Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya and his UAE counterpart, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, on the sidelines of the meeting of foreign ministers from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries in Bahrain.

Mr Kasit said Thailand had already sent six fugitives to the UAE as requested by Abu Dhabi.

Sheikh Abdullah admitted Thaksin had stayed in Dubai, Mr Kasit said.

Today, the Malaysian's New Straits Time have a small photo of Thaksin on the front page, referring to the above news in their world news section.

  8. Nope, The Airport Blockade™ didn't put anyone in jail either. But that's not the point here. HERE it's about the REDS.

Not just that. None were even arrested or charged.

"After taking power, Abhisit was criticised as an opportunist who would have gone nowhere without a helping hand from the military and the anti-Thaksin People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD). He failed to condemn the PAD when it occupied Bangkok's two main airports in late November. Since then, Abhisit has vowed to prosecute those responsible for the airport closures, but nobody has been charged so far."

But gambling also has its dark side. Families have been rent asunder by hardcore gamblers. In 2005, a man plagued by gambling debts jumped to his death after killing his family. In his suicide note to his pastor, he wrote about a painful miss after betting his last chance on 4-D.

When the government announced bonus cash handouts of S$200 to S$800 to Singaporeans in 2006, some Singaporeans indicated that they would spend the money on 4-D. This mentality caused some members of Parliament to question the effectiveness of these handouts in helping needy Singaporeans.

  10. You always ask people for reference yet your own remembering barely reaches back a few days. How many times i need to tell you that i neither frequent beer bars (for i do not drink alcohol, not one drop!) nor saunas (for i don't support prostitution and am very happy with my one boyfriend since over 8 1/2 years)..??

And yes, who else to blame than the reds? Thaksin can't be blamed, after all he is the innocent angel who can't return to his home country because of the evil forces within said country. Sure, and i saw a pig flying above my apartment just moments ago.

And i don't care for "official charges" and what's written in the newspaper. I care for what i see with my own eyes, either directly or on live television which can not be doctored or faked in any way. Fact is that nobody is yet in jail for they mayhem and destruction they caused in April, and probably nobody ever will, while little people who are accused of stealing a t-shirt or a beer mat (whatever that silly item is) get jailed immediately.

    Regards

And what about shutting down the airports. Any body charged?

  11. Samgrowth, or anyone, do you know what the deal is with airasia regarding baggage allowance?

These flights just seem too cheap. I can get to BKK from London with Air Asia for less than £200, yet with British Airways it would be costing me more than £700.

There must be SOMETHING I'm missing here. So far I gather that you have to pay for food and drink, but that is hardly going to make up for a £500 difference.

    What's the catch?

Food is optional and on top.

Baggages is optional & on top, you have 3 choices of check baggages + 7 kg free hand carry.

Seat selation is optional and on top.

Insurance is optional and on top.

If you are flexible, use www.AirAsiaPlus.com to hunt for the cheapest dates.

To get the real full amount that you need to pay with everything that you need, just go to the web site and make a fake booking, and back off once you reach the credit card payment page. As you add each item, it will tell you by how much.

WARNING. This is a low cost airline. You get what you paid for. Don't come complaining that you don't get the same service as BA, TG, etc. Also, forget about changing once paid; it is often not worthwhile.

  12. This is really bad news for Thailand's Commerce Minister Pornthiva Nakasai, owner of Poseidon, one of the biggest whore house in Ratchada, if not the biggest in the whole of Thailand.

The topic is about the human trafficking aspect and not massage parlors where young girls go voluntarily to work.

Have you ever asked the girls in Poseidon if they volunteered, for force into the trade, by they parrents / village heads / local drug lords / money lenders, etc?

I HAVE asked them. Some of them are there to serve high interest debt, some taken by their own parrents.

  13. I don't believe it. I keep buying ZERO fare, and it keeps getting cheaper and cheaper.

In Nov'08 I bought some ZERO fares and I thought I had a bargain for Oct'09. First AA drop Fuel Surcharge. Then AA drop Admin Fee which further reduce the price. I now could buy the same ticket at 40% of what I paid which was suppose to be a ZERO fare.

So what the <deleted>. I felt cheated by AA ZERO fare scheme. Is this how you treat your loyal customer?

  14. Suthep: Hun Sen to avoid violence at Thai-Cambodian border

BANGKOK, 29 June 2009 (NNT) - The Cambodian Prime Minister has assured that he would avert violence and confrontation from resuming at the Thai-Cambodian border, according to Deputy Prime Minister for security affairs Suthep Thaugsuban.

After discussion with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, Mr. Suthep stated that the Cambodian leader insisted that he would try to stop violence and relieve the tension at the Thai-Cambodian border.

But who created the tension in the first place? PAD? DEM? Mark? Kasit? Sondhi?

  15. 2.)It may be possible to trace the Sri Lankan, if he gave his "real" name, or whatever name is in his passport. Of course, what are the chances that the airport immigration police will scrub the Immigration, AOT, and PISCES-Image records before the DSI's can review them?

    Judge Dredd

As far as I understand all this happened inside the security area as they were about to board the plane. The only way to get access to this area is to be a passenger or have a security pass for this area.

Pretty scary if crooks like the Sri Lankan can get a security pass for the purpose of extort money from unsuspecting travelers.

Don't worry, not all Srilankans are Tigers. Some are human too.

  16. Frustrating isn't it that Thais keep on voting in a way we don't approve of.

Keep voting for the wrong party? The right party that Thai voters must vote for is PAD.

Oops, I keep forgetting that PAD is not a political party.

  17. I just bought LON-KUL returns for 203 GBP all in.

An pay another 140 MYR for KUL-BKK return. That's abother 25 GBP.

In total I pay less than 230 GBP for LON-KUL-BKK-KUL-LON.

What's the deal with immigration when you get into KL? I think I remember not needing a visa to get into Malaysia, but i assume you would still have to pass through immi, so what kind of time do you leave before your connector?

Just looking at flights for my winter migration and air asia looks cheapest by far at £170 one way to KL and a connector for about £30. That's over £100 cheaper than anywhere else. Granted, I haven't really been searching very hard, but still.

I flew home last year with Sri Lankan for about £240 but their website is working about as well as their inflight entertainment at the moment, so i don't know what the deal is there.

Yes, you have to go through arrival immigration in KL, collect your bags, and recheckin, and go through departure immigration again.

I would advise a minimum of 4 hours from schedule arrival & schedule departure.

Or you can stay overnight at their TUNE airport hotel, very cheap.

Even better, stop over for a day or two.
