  1. Thaksin 'carries 6 passports'

    Published: 22/05/2009 at 12:00 AM

Thaksin Shinawatra is now carrying six passports issued by foreign countries, Puea Thai MP chief Chalerm Yubamrung says.

Mr Chalerm recently visited the former prime minister in Dubai but was unable to give details of which countries had issued Thaksin with the passports.

Nicaragua reportedly issued Thaksin with a diplomatic passport when he was selected to promote the country's trade and investment.

Thaksin may also have obtained a passport from Montenegro. Mr Chalerm yesterday confirmed Thaksin planned to buy an island off the Montenegrin coast in the Adriatic Sea.

Thaksin often travelled from place to place in a helicopter he bought from the owner of the luxury Harrods store in London, Mr Chalerm said.

One more passport is needed then he has a passport for every day of the week...

Never heard such BS before - 6 passports! Who was drunk when this statement was made?

Is he trying to get into guinesses book of record?

  2. Sondhi has been officially declared bankrupt. It's a big question if he is even eligible for running, even if it happened ages ago.

PAD can judge its popularity by the number of ASTV subscriptions in each constituency, btw.

Phue Thai is a headless chicken, without credible leaders and a platform. Last time they campaigned as Thaksin proxy, in the days when Thaksin still had a relatively clean image of a coup victim. Situation has changed dramatically, their one year stint in power didn't convince anyone of their abilities, and Thaksin has bored everyone to death with his self-serving agenda and bloody revolutions.

Now some of their MPs openly protest against Thaksin's choice while others say that it's time they found a leader on their own.

I don't think even their supporters believe that PTP can revive golden age of TRT.

PTP is heading for a huge electoral disaster.

Sondhi's company has been officially declared bankrupt. Not Sondhi himself. Even if he himself was bankrupt, after 3 years, he had already returned as a normal man. So the bankrupt do not stick to him anymore.

  3. I fly about 100 AirAsia sectors last year. Mostly domestic Thailand, also KL, SIN, DPS. Never check any bags, never pay for seat selection, never buy any meals, never pay for the insurance.

30 mins late is quite normals, very seldom an hour late, and only twice more than 2 hours late (which I get 1,800 Baht compensation). I find KL-LCCT very efficient and comfortable after the renovation. Before the make over, there was hardly a standing room during peak hours. Only complaint is that there is no rail link. The 9RMY bus is OK, but the journey time (75 mins) is a big too long and uncomfortable. If I go for the taxi, even the budget one, it will cost more than the airticket (tax all in) I paid for.

All in all, it is value for money. You get what you paid for.

  4. Yes,this place is a complete rip-off.Overpriced and substandard food and no service whatsoever.I have eaten there only once and it will be the last time.I can only recommend that people not use this restaurant!!!!

Who do you think is ripping you off?

    A. The food vendors?

    B. The Airport (AOT)?

If you know how much rent the vendors pay, you would know that they almost made nothing. Most money go as rent. So next time swear at AOT, and not the vendors.

  5. Thanks - that's very useful information about the buses FROM the airport, but how about if you want to catch them TO the airport from central BKK? I asked at the desk at the airport and they didn't so much as have a pamphlet, let alone anything resembling a timetable. I told them I had waited on Silom for about an hour and a half and no bus came past - but they assured me they came about every 30 mins, which is clearly not the case (at least on the night I wanted to get out there).

Does anyone know when the last service from Silom to the airport runs? I need to get out there to meet a plane which arrives at 0100.

    Route. 551

Suvarnbhumi-Victory Monument : Motor Way-Kasem Bundit University-Klong Tan Police Station-Department of Public Works and Town & Country Planning-Din Dang-Victory Monument

Better catch 551 from Victory Monument (BTS). they run all night (reduced frequency after mid night).

  6. Another alternative and probably the cheapest!

Get a metered taxi from the airport to Ladkrabang train station (best to get taxi from arrivals floor as they use the meter!) Guessing about 70B. Take train to Asok station/platform which is approx 100m before the new Makkasan (airport link) station. The charge for this currently is free for Thai's and 5B for Farangs and the journey will take approx 30 mins.

Good eh and you miss all the traffic!

The times for these trains in the afternoons are 13.23, 14.42, 1500 and 17.20.

Once at Asok, walk 5 mins to Petchaburi MRT and go to Sukhumvit station for 16B (1 stop).

    Job done!

Get a metered taxi from the airport to Ladkrabang train station (best to get taxi from arrivals floor as they use the meter!) Guessing about 70B.

If you try to do that, be prepared that the driver might swear at you. The poor guys q for 2 hours, and all he gets is 70 or so Baht.

  7. Dozens of falsified travelling documents are found by the ICE team every month. You would be surprised at what people get up to when it comes to fake documents. Thailand is actually infamous for having some of the best in the industry for producing fake travelling documents, for a fee ofcourse.

Jan-Mar 2009 more than 150 people got caught with fake documents.

    Did that include Simon's?

What about Thaksin? He has about 6 passports, none of them are Thai (anymore).

  8. Why don't you sent your wife's children to ISB or BKK Pattana?

In my case there would be the tiny problem of coming up with five hundred thousand to a million baht per year.

Even in rich western countries this is about half to a full average yearly net salary, and far beyond the means of common people. Here in Thailand, for somebody who is not on an expat package, or independently rich ... :) ... forget it.

If they were your children (instead of your wife's), would you act otherwise? Just curious.

  9. quote name='Koo82' post='2710902' date='2009-05-04 10:58:29']Look at this guy in Bangkok. PAD and the blues are known for having slingshots, not the reds.

    Untitled-7.jpg

You mean to say this guy is attacking reds? He surely has lost his mind as I can count about a dozen red shirts BEHIND him. He's shooting in the wrong direction!

This guy may dress in black T-shirt. But i am sure the police found a red underwear under it. Or red sock, or red keychain, or maybe he carry a red hundred baht bill. Ah you see, he is a RED.

  10. I had a g.f who worked in one of the sweat shops in Bkk, about 10 years ago, when she was 12,13. Her stepfather brought her down from the north, sold her for a couple thousand baht. She probably cleared about 150 baht in a good week. She said she was the fastest sewer-girl in the room. Then her stepfather came down again, when she was 14, and sold her again - this time to a restaurant which probably had its waitresses doing extracurricular activity after hours. She was an interesting girl when I met her, at 20 years, but emotionally frazzled. She would go ballistic about slight things.

As for importing container loads of faked goods from China: Besides the most obvious way to get across borders (bribe officials), it's possible some goods, such as clothing could be shipped in without labels, and the labels sewn on in Bkk.

I've bought pirated stuff at Burmese border towns. CD's and DVD's are often faulty - petering out about half-way. In my particularly naive days, I even bought a fake Panasonic video player. It started out crappy, and went downhill from there.

Are you sure that video player are still on sales. I don't think anyone can buy one new, may it be Thailand or Burma.

  11. Bangkok Post published the AFP content as well, but they edited the last part out. maybe someone at the Post didn't liked the sentence : "Thaksin remains a deeply divisive figure in Thailand; he enjoys wide support from the country's largely rural poor but is a hate figure for powerful Bangkok-based cliques in the palace, military and bureaucracy."

    Censorship in action.

Abhisit pushes Tsang for Thaksin extradition deal

Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva has pushed Hong Kong Chief Executive Donald Tsang Yam-kuen to move quickly on an agreement to help extradite Thaksin Shinawatra should he set foot in Hong Kong again.

Following a meeting in Hong Kong between the two, Abhisit said Tsang is ''working on it and I hope to see a quick conclusion.''

The prime minister called on Thaksin, his predecessor, to return home to face corruption charges, but ruled out the possibility of granting him amnesty.

Abhisit, who visited Hong Kong after months of anti-government protests by Thaksin's supporters in Thailand, said his predecessor should face the consequences.

Well I'd like to be the first to congratulate SJ on his new position in The Standard. Or are they copy'n'pasting from ThaiVisa now?

    Thanks for your post, Insight.

I hadn't seen it because I had put this guy on ignore as his irrational/illogical/erroneous tirades became impossible to bear.

It seems his ludicrous and false accusations are even more ludicrous and false than before.

Indeed, it was an AFP article posted on one of Hong Kong's largest publications with a half-million readers.

Can you post a link to clear your name? If it is a printed version, could you please post a scan copy?

  13. It looks good on the government to give out freebies. Free health care, free bus, free train, free water, free electricity, free schooling. We might as well adorpt a utopia society where everything free free, and let's not print currency as it is not needed. Call it communist or anything you like.

In reality, the government is not the one that foot the bill. THE TAX PAYER pays for all the FREEBIES the Thai people is getting. As long as you do not pay tax, praise the loard. However if you are the unlucky few (who pay tax) . . . . need I say more.

If I run for the election, I will promise more freebies. I will remove all electric meters, all water meters, free mobile phone, free local call (across all system), free computer, free high speed internet. All bus, train, domestic air travel will also be free. Free hyermarket, free resturant, and most important is free massage. Free 100,000 Baht per year for all the citizen of Thailand. All I need to do is to increase tax to (not by) 100%.
