I congratulate Abhisit being elected as 27th Prime Minister of Thailand. The road ahead is difficult, hope he can hold on to it. Both the Red & Yellow shirts should keep cool and allow him to work for the good of the country. Should any group come out to protest again, Thailand will be ruined.
And Pokemon will be 28th.
Just like Lee Kuan Yew in Singapore, he doesn't want his son to take straight from him. So he has the half wit Goh Chok Tong to fill it in between, so that it doesn't look too obvious that a dynasty is passing down power.

These politicians were not voted in by the Thai people and neither was the new Prime Minister, there should be new elections called for. This would also inject billions of bart into the country as the corrupt officials would have to spend some of their stolen money by trying to buy votes again. I would bet that UDD would win by a landslide again.
Like PAD, UDD is not a party and cannot win election.

I think this is very good news for the country.
The man looks clean and also looks that he might have a brain (which is more than one could say of the past 4-5 in the chair, Surayod excepted)
Providing he is given the good will of the majority of the realm's citizens Thailand now has a chance to turn the corner.
The very best of good luck to him.
I agree that the man looks clean, and I believe that he is clean. SO IS CHUAN. What bought Chuan down are his team mates.
With Newin and Sondhi (amoung others) as Apisit team mates, he will be brought down soon, just like Chuan.

Ah, Democracy in action!
Lose an election, take over government house, blockade airports, wreck tourism, get prime ministership.
Neat!
The new PM should call fresh elections under the rule, one person, one vote, no pork barrelling of any kind (only joking ,Australia and the US never use pork barrelling tactics, yeah, right!!!) and abide by the result
And I suppose you infer that fresh elections would be democratic and without massive amounts of 500 baht notes being distributed by Thaksin to secure the election?
And I suppose you would infer that the "vote buying" for Parliamentary conversions, as reported by the Bangkok Post and The Nation are not a problem. This is the same game only at a higher level. Will the courts now have a new "vote buying" scandal to decide upon.
I doubt it, I don't think "MP buying" is illegal in Thailand, just vote buying.
I second that. No law against MP buying in Thailand.
-
I wish him all the best. But, does that mean PAD will never be punished for what they have done to the Country?
The yellow cannot be punished. They are the law. Don't forget that Sondhi is squeezing the new PM balls.

I wonder how long it will be until we see the airports over run with red shirts????
The red has no guts to take the airport. They have no strong backers left in the country.

A new chapter in Thai history.
Although I support Toxin, I wish the new PM well, and congradulate on his win.
Just hope that the new govt don't raise tax.

Anyone see the program on TV just now about the Cultural Revolution in China. A case of deja vu when you see PAD. I think the only difference was that the peasants were reeducating the urban elite and not the other way around.
Good comparison. I am thinking along those lines too.

If they want to run the government they should create a Politacal Party and run for elections as prescribed in the Thai Constitution.
Most Thais are sick of this lawlessness and PAD would be lucky to even get their own demonstrators to vote for them.
How many times must I say this. PAD is not a political party. PAD cannot buy votes.
-
Now the Army and Police started to bring people to protect tomorrow voting venue. But they did not stop the PAD from living in Suvarnabhumi. How cute!
TIT. It all depends on who your backers are.
-
But WHAT THAILAND REALLY NEEDS RIGHT NOW IS PROPER HONEST AND OBSERVED ELECTIONS.
I agree. The Observers should be PAD guards, and no body else.

Paying elected politician 50 million baht to switch sides and vote for Pueh Thai nominees.
Source?

Happy now? Close enough for your needs? I really hate boring people that are self appointed monitors, that post "source".
LOL. This will shut up a lot of people who say no money exchange hand. MP are getting paid to caste their vote. This is a FACT now.

The court is rig.

After the Army turned their back and Police cooperated with PAD to watch security, the people who saved the Government House were the reds. Having bombs and gun shots too often, PAD leaders asked protestors not to sleep at Government House but move to Suvarnabhumi. Don Muang was quite empty in the last 2 days as leaders were not there. Suvarnabhumi location makes it hard for the reds to shoot and bomb, otherwise those PAD terrorists would have moved their butts out sooner.
A joke for Thailand that Army and Police cannot don't want to control a few thousand terrorists. But don't think that Thais can't read games.
Fully agree

"The BBC recently reported that the PAD had taken over the control tower of Suvarnaphumi Airport, which is a very major deal but in fact it never happened!!!"
Sadly, in my opinion, the BBC can no longer be trusted to be factually correct, truthful, or impartial anymore, not just with Thai news, but with most news. They seem to be obsessed with creating news, as can be seen by their continual requests for people to send reports from whatever is the current hot news topic.
BBC never lie. Only PAD does that.

Someone mention Sarah Palin? I miss the old hen, and her cunning smile. Now that her clothing bills is cut, maybe someone could send her the famous Thai uni uniform.

I just cannot imagine Abhisit behind bars. And Apirak in the next cell.

He said he expects that over 500 hotels in the 3-to-5 star range will join the campaign, since the average occupancy rate for Bangkok's large-scale hotels in December is currently below 10 per cent, compared with 70 percent in the same period in the past, and 100 percent during Christmas and New Year festivities earlier.
Do those occupancy rates include those of us who took advantage of the government's offer to provide food and accommodation for 'stranded' passengers ??
That's already in. Counted.
-
With all those factory girls jobless, I wonder where would most of them go. Is Chuwit still accepting application? Or is his tube already full.

He dismissed speculation by the PAD that M79 grenades fired by police were the cause of Pol Lt-Col Methee's death.
Generally, this grenade would leave shrapnel in the body of the vehicle when it explodes, but none was found on the wrecked jeep, he said.
Besides, explosives from C-4 to TNT were found inside his vehicle, Pol Maj-Gen Chakthip added."
C-4 to TNT. Where the hel_l the stuff came from? They are not easy to get. Not even in Klongtoey market.

ok, there are apparently rules against buying votes from individual voters.
Are there rules against buying votes from MP's? If not, why not? Or perhaps it's too naive a question. Who or what organization in Thailand could begin to bust power brokers who bribe politicians?
Thai politics is so thoroughly corrupt that big shots are not even trying to cover the fact that they're dangling tens of millions of baht in front of MPs who might switch sides.
Are there any politicians with personal convictions that aren't wrapped around the over-riding issue of their personal enrichment?
Thailand hasn't had any effective governance for years, and it doesn't look like things will improve soon - even if the Dems get their man at the helm. Nothing's been done on environmental issues, nothing on education reform. The list could go on and on. Not a pretty situation from any view.
Not sure if it is against the law to buy MPs in Thailand. However US senate seat is up for sales. Maybe Thaksin might be interested, but he may need to be nationalized first.
-
Don't worry. Once the baby face become PM, he would create 2 million new jobs. 2 million PAD guard to be nationaliized to patrol along with the useless Thai police.
-
So what. In such a confrontation, a few people will die. May it be RED or YELLOW or innocent people. You follow the news in Athens? That's what going to happen in Bangkok if the baby face become PM.

Obvious that this comment come from the yellow.
Let say the police / army control the situation, and a 15 years boy die. It will be Athens in Bangkok.
