  1. It is very straightforward, just follow the instructions given with VAT invoice, I did it again two weeks ago.

Basically, take the goods with the receipt to the office before you check in - they may ask to see them, then hand the stamped form at the counter airside and they will give you the cash minus a small fee. They may ask to see high value items air-side, but they have never asked me.

All the offices are well signposted.

  2. You should see a lawyer, you can bet your life he has.

I am not sure if by saying at the Amphur that you have no property to split that is the end of the matter, but if he can take it to court and prove that he has paid for some of the house and land then he might have a case.

I have to stress that I have no knowledge of civil law, you really need proper legal advice.

It could certainly be argued by the ex wife that the ex husband, by not declaring any community property on the divorce documents registered at the Amphur, was making a gift of the house and land to the ex wife.

Yes, you are probably right, this is a term often used. Then again the ex-husband might say who in their right mind would make a gift like this, bearing in mind he is probably walking away with nothing and having to start again, it does not seem unreasonable that he might want to try and retrieve something.

Of course I don't know the circumstances of this split.

  3. Which airlines and where? The area that was orginaly the check-in area at Paddington is now shops. I used this when flying BA in 1999, but when I came back in 2003 it was no longer. I use Heathrow express once a month now days and have never seen any airline check-in desk nor have I seen baggage loaded into the special compartments on the Heathrow express trains.

Whoops, I think you are probably right. Now you mention it I haven't used the facility for a number of years or even noticed them, obviously the shops are far more profitable.

A number of tourist websites still say there are 19 check in desks - sorry about that.

  4. I have a few skin tags under my armpits, and they are becoming a bit sore, could anyone sugest a place in Bangkok where I could get them properly removed?

Suppose I could do it myself but I'm a wimp and want it doing properly.

    Thanks

  5. havent seen any recent news about the baht devaluing. Which is interesting as I don't think the Thai reserves are that strong

I haven't seen any news on the Baht devaluing though today's Bangkok Post quotes the Swiss bank UBS as saying that the Thai Baht may slide 5.6% by year-end as the country's economy shrinks at the fastest pace in a decade deterring investmentby global funds. Suppose that means that the GBP will slide even further making even more difficult for us poor Brits to eek out our pensions.

  6. If your girlfriend was married in Thailand her marriage is legal in the UK, so will not be free to marry in the UK until she is divorced. If the English is agreeable a divorce is as easy as going to the Amhpur and signing some papers, but they both need to be there.

The visa section will automatically think the worst of her, so you will have to think as one of them and challenge everything she says, it will be painful but, in my view, worth it in the long run.

    Good luck to you both

  7. I noticed a threat recently about credit seemingly disappearing from a 12-Call sim, but I cannot now find it, or even remember which forum it was in.

My account zeroed out last week despite making hardly any calls, on Friday I received in excess of 50 sms messages saying I had insufficient funds to complete the number dialled, and I had not dialed any numbers. 125 Baht of the top-up I made on Friday has gone, I have made no calls and received only one.

Perhaps I am being fined for being a billy no mates, but seriously can someone help me?

    Cheers

  8. What changed a few years ago is that all the applications have to be given to VFS who them pass them onto UK Visas for evaluation and, if appropriate issuing the visa.

I am not a particular fan of VFS, but I doubt very much if they are involved in this type of scam, though there are many official looking companies in the same building, who will be more than happy to relieve you of your money.

The visas are, and always have been, issued by staff working for UK visas.

  9. the great majority passengers in London use tube or train to and from the airport.

they are faster, cheaper and you can check in your luggage at the station (no need to walk with it around the airport)

Do you mean you can check in your luggage at Heathrow Airport train terminal when you arrive? I am not sure you can check it in at the Heathrow tube terminal.

There are no facilities for checking your luggage in when travelling to London's Heathrow Airport by the underground/tube, there are far too many stations, but you can certainly check your luggage in at Paddington Station, at least for some airlines, if you are travelling to Heathrow on The Heathrow Express
