On Windows I prefer MPC-BE because I like the interface better out of the box. I particularly like the pause-on-screen-click feature. It plays all I need it to play. I use VLC on Linux and my Android box (in addition to Kodi, on the latter). Rarely, there's something in particular VLC can do, like hardcode subtitles if I really want to for some reason.

Tried VLC twice , didn't like it. I use KMPlayer . I like how I can change the size of the subs , audio sync, with just some shortcuts on the keyboard. One click to full size and back.

    MPC-BE is an option .

But I must say that with a faster 4k screen , in many recent uploads in 264 and 265 , movement in video's is less smooth.

Great. Thanks. How do you get rid of this filling half the screen even when you just hover over it?

    image.png.3ef263c74f09bd1afdedecb68dfebcbe.png

The hover over  engages the leftside widget screen , I think ( it's been more than a month that I disabled it ).

I did the ultimate : No widgets , not just hide them , but no news feeds loading in the background using my internet connection.

Like I said , I did this right after I bought the computer , so I don't remember, but I kept this link:

Because when do a clean install , I'll need to do it again.

Microsoft said that in the future they will allow 3rd party widgets , not just their cr_p and MSN feeds . But even then I don't want it.

I think it was Windows XP that many people around the world became familiar with computing.  It will be fondly remembered, but for me,

Windows 7 took it to another level.

I still have the desktop gadgets for weather, CPU, currency exchange, network etc.

Microsoft can stick their "tiles" when the sun doesn't shine.

Lots of truth in there , for me that is.

Now I must say that I had (still have)  XP media center edition , which is much nicer looking than plain XP.

I've never bothered w/ Windows Explorer, always used Total Commander, one of my essential utilities. Big jobs, I put in the background and carry on with other stuff. Tracks amount copied in realtime. Customizable toolbar, so I have icons linked to folders, scripts, and programs. Appearance customizable, lots of options. Tabbed in both panes. Can be portable, so I also have it on a utilities thumbdrive.

The trouble with using third party apps to "mold" windows to your liking , like your "Total Commander " or changing the look of W 11 , is that W11 is a OS that is not finished . With every update , if anything goes wrong , you wonder whether it is one of these changer apps or something more invasive as an other file explore.

  5. Yes cortana and teams and others I already forget , I unnstalled them quickly.

Too often the nagging about making edge the default browser.
Now I do like edge , even with the endless tweaks for more privacy, but I refuse to put it as default .
Compare W11 Photo (viewer) with the same picture in paint , a media player , ... and the photo viewer's colours are off . How to use that to make changes when the colours are not real ?

I just came from XP , so scrolling without selecting window , is new for me.

Last computer's battery , I could take out , but now they are inside so limiting charging
    via software is great.

What I don't like is that when you move or copy files to another window/folder , it automaticly orders them . The copy process is weird too although I like that I can see the speed and a graph.

Very bold of you. Expect to be called a caveman by our cutting-edge hi-tech gurus. But that way you may be able to avoid the ads.

As mentioned in the beginning, this month's preview update also comes with a new set of notifications (that some might describe as ads), which will show up in the sign-out flyout of the Windows 11 Start menu.

"This update introduces notifications for Microsoft accounts in the Start menu. This is only available to a small audience right now," Microsoft explains.

"It will deploy more broadly in the coming months. Some devices might notice different visual treatments as we gather feedback."

--Windows 11 KB5023778 update adds promotions to the Start menu

    Hee.

Only for people with a microsoft account , I hope.

    I don't have one.

It was already a pain to get rid of the widgets and the ads/news in start menu and in edge.

Everytime they get out something new , I have to search to get rid of it , like the big B (bing) in edge.

So much useless stuff like onedrive, clipchamp , windows games which is full of ads > uninstall.

Some of the games in XP work in W11 (but without sounds) , XP calculator is better than the ugly W11 one.

Snipping tool had a bug , I use the office 2003 office picture manager ... still works in W11.

After what , 2 /3 decades of windows , you still need a third party media player ?

Movies & TV or the Media player s_ck.

    WMP legacy is doable.

What I do like is scrolling in a window without the need to select it. Setting battery levels to start and stop charging.

But those things may have been in other versions too.

  7. I've recently downgraded from WinXP to a new computer with W11, it is terrible and ugly.

W11 is like a renovation of an old house , adding "new" things , that aren't new at all.

A window is now a piece of white "paper" with some lines on and some text.

Productivity is bad for me. It is a bloaded OS .

I come from an 5400 rpm HD with 2GB of 667 Mhz DDR2 and a dual core CPU maxed out at 2,16 Ghz to an fast SSD , 16 GB 4800 Mhz DDR5 and 14 cores , and XP feels snappier than W11.

At least it doesn't look as childish as W10 with those tiles.

12 years without updates in XP went great , now I have to keep an eye open for all the sh_tty updates.

Privacy is terrible ,  so many settings to keep some privacy , and still a lot goes to microsoft .

  8. So that is for recycling , not a sort of fixed deposit to turn them in so they get re-used by the beer company ?  Like in europe you turn them in , get your money back or a token that you can use at the checkout of the supermarket .

The place I stay at gives Singha water bottles and the empties go back and are re-used.

You can clearly see that on the bottles , they are not new.

If it is only to be recycled , what a waste and pretty expensive. Beer itself is already so expensive . In Aluminium cans even more expensive. Maybe switch to 1,5 liter plastic bottles like softdrinks .

  9. ^ No the link wasn't always there . I didn't get the authentification email , only the security allert. Now after all these weeks of trying , I get the email with link (in thai, and not overlooked , google translated) .

There was no resend to hit , like the pics in the opening post.
Clicking the "another verify method" button a number of times , blocked me from even accessing the lazada site.

You can register at lazada with only an email address , but they require a phone number to fill in but is not used.
I give the number of the cleaning lady here . Delivery calls her to tell that they are coming , she usually warns me but I follow the package on the delivery sites.

  10. In august 2020 when the gold price was 30.000 THB , Thai's were selling their gold. I thought stupid , and didn't sell. Gold fell back a lot of course.

Now gold is there again ( and more in sh-tty euro) , but I don't hear the Thais selling while I want to ....

I guess Thais are better at it than I and listen to them ?

Gold and defence company stocks ?

As soon as there is a stop of the conflict , gold will tumble again.

    I have the same problem.

I have been using Lazada for years.

New security software - zero testing abilities.

The only solution that I found was to set up a new account. ????

As you say - you cannot ask for help to sign in unless you are signed in.

    Useless.

    Ah you too .

I have set up another account , but after the sign up , I can't log in to that new account.

Log in worked fine for 2 months , even with older OS and browsers and email , no phone . Now I'm f....ed because they have new security software ...

Oh but it is. You just refuse to do it. No point in putting impossible restrictions on yourself and then complaining that nothing works because you insist on doing the thing that doesn't work over and over again.

Change authentication to a phone number/SMS and when the SMS arrives, copy the link shown into your Browser address bar and hit the Enter key. It will give you the option to choose Allow or Don't Allow. Problem solved.....or you can just continue to give yourself a headache by eliminating the phone number option.

Lazada is NOT a bank or so where absolute security is needed.

I use a computer , it should not be needed to have a phone to log in. Even if I had a phone , you have to log in to change the authentication method ... but I can't log in.

Login in incognito mode or similar. Lazada sux anyway switch to shopee

Why would incognito mode work ? If they can't put login cookie , you can't log in. The browsers that work with lazada don't have incognito.

Lazada doesn't suc- , I like how they suggest other items , which shopee doesn't.

Well lazada sux a little for not letting me log in.

@FlorC why don’t you call them? The hotline number is available 0900-1800 Monday  to Friday

I posted before : I don't have a phone. If shopee is a one time deal , then I can ask the cleaning lady for the code. But not everytime I want to log in. Besides explaining it on the phone in a different language in not good for me.
