  1. you guys act like western nations have open door immigration policies.

if you cant trust your wife enough to put assets in her name, i pity you.

how 'bout those of us who don't have or want a thai wife??

i guess then a thai husband is the way to go.....sorry i couldn't resist :o

  2. So let's look at your complaints shall we?

    draconian visa regulations

Thailand has the same position as other countries like Australia, Canada, the USA and the EU. When was the last time you saw Australia set up a recruiting booth in Africa, India or even Europe and ask uneducated people that would contribute nothing of great value to the society or economy to move to Australia? You do realize that the UK, USA etc. all impose financial requirements in order to obtain investment or retirement visas right? Do you know how difficult it is for a Thai to get a tourist visa to a western country?

Sorry but back home (Europe), your thai spouse can do any works a local can do, plus free basic medical help and a free Visa, thai laws are just against basic human rights.....easy, this is not to complaint but just to report some "real deal" :o

  3. 2) sorry for the confusion Chef, yes sauces are generally made quickly, however i believe whatever you do, the importance of the taste should follow the one of the safety, always taste what you do, different quality of ingredients will react in a different manner so try to "calibrate" things in a way that works, if a product is hopeless(ie: canned tomatoes) than look for the next option untill you achieve your target.

3a) yes Pecorino cheese ( http://www.amatriciana.eu/sezioni.php?f=A_...ingredienti.htm ) however IMO if the sauce taste right you can easily do without

3c) that's something can help you to work around many troubled tastes

If you can fix it and keep your price stable one day you might save millions of italians from the Barilla's extortionating price, be our hero! :o

  4. If the wifey, wife to be etc asked your friend for that cash, then the hubby should make her accountable for the whole sum, it doesn't matter where those money really went to, lost, spent, throw into the toilette, whatever, she asked for it so she must be fully responsible for it, make unreserved apologies to his loved one and either give back the money from her own(if any), selling what she own or find a job and pay him back everything, if she really love him she will do it, if it was just another scam then treat her accordingly and most importantly, with no mercy, from my own experience she will surely have no problems in even give up 100% of what she earn, hope your friend will have the same "luck". :o

  5. 1)you must cook those onions more(if you cooked them at all?) as it is now it leaves an unpleasant "aftertaste" tipical of raw onions and also that "heavy stomach" kind of feeling 2) the tomato sauce also taste kind of "raw" 3) you can achieve a better result with less ingredients.

    Thanks for your feedback, surayu.

I glad you took the time to provide your input.

Its posts like yours where we have a chance to improve.

    Regarding your points:

    1) OK, we will do some experiments with caramelizing the onions more. Thanks for the suggestion.

    2) not sure how address that... any suggestions?

    3) can you please be more specific? Less what?

    Thanks.

    1) good

    2) probably increasing the cooking time?

    3) garlic, butter, herbs(?) for sure and if i was in you i would try to get rid of the cheese and tomato paste as well, some oregano might help too. :o

  6. Hello ChefHeat, i finally had the opportunity to try your "amatriciana" sauce, i am a big fan of the Barilla brand and my second choice is Agnesi, usually i avoid other brands as i am a bit strict on food taste, however, the price is definetely honest, nice label, the first time i saw it on the shelf i tried to think from where it all came from, as it say "Nana,Made in Thailand" i had in my mind the image of a mamasan investing her small fortune in tomato sauce so i declined a purchase, after reading your story here and having seen your effort i decided to give it a try, if you eat "proper" italian food you will easily come to the conclusion that 1)you must cook those onions more(if you cooked them at all?) as it is now it leaves an unpleasant "aftertaste" tipical of raw onions and also that "heavy stomach" kind of feeling 2) the tomato sauce also taste kind of "raw" 3) you can achieve a better result with less ingredients.

To understand a bit more about real traditional tastes, you can try the most of the italian restaurants in Bangkok and Pattaya, make sure there is a "real" italian person working in the premises which is usually an extra guarantee the food taste is right.

In the end, congratulation for your enterprise, you seems to be interested in the quality of your products and that's surely one of the key for a succesfull end, i am sure you will be able to achieve a better result by doing some little changes and sorry if i might sound kind of crytical but that's just the opinion of a recidive pasta eater, no offence intended, just "constructive" rants :o ciao.

  7. with a train as a "non thai" it will cost you 31 baht, your thai counterpart travel for free, cheap and easy but not exactly fast or comfortable as a bus or car :o

oh i forgot to mention the accomodation bit, yes pleanty of places under 500 baht, i heard that one called "Cheap Charlie" charge as little as 150 baht, however i never try this myself, if you are in a really strict budget it might be worth to do some further research.

  8. Can you tell me where I can acquire some legal parachute strings and what colours will I have to chose from?

Well around here i guess you could try to befriend anyone dealing with the local paratroopers, or even some sport club might be good, sport equipment manufactures or importers, someone that changed his hobby and want to get rid of his stuff, etc..

For the colors, they are usually white or green, however i don't think it would be a big issue to change it to a different one....

  9. If the Thai tourism is so buggered where are all the cheap hotel deals ? I thought there would be some great specials around ,like the cheap flights .

Any one out there know were any good deals are or any ideas how to find em? There HAS to be some ,theres is heaps here in Oz.

    cheers .

You have to understand "Thai economics." They ignore supply and demand...........when the economy is bad they raise prices, not lower them. Just one example: The hotel I liked staying at in Jomtien tripled prices over the past two years. Now they have very few customers.........but the owners refuse to drop the price (saving face? stupid?).

Exactly! ...just another example, the "Sky Bayioke Hotel" in Bangkok(tallest building in Thailand), you book a room at a x price, then you go there and they just try to take TWICE that amount of money with all possible (false)excuses, when you ask them to actually take responsibility for their actions by putting what they say in writing they obviously refuse, bloody scammers! yes Thailand keep going on that way as you are surely doing yourself a big favour! :o

  10. never mind assessing the intellect of rural farmers, we should be questioning the intellect of some highly paid government ministers assistants who that in the face of the growing prospects of violent disruption to the Asean summit booked the Chinese prime minister, the Japanese prime minister and the South Korean president into the Dusit instead of the Royal Cliff?

thus making attending meetings a drive all the way across town instead of a casual walk across the car park

    what were those morons thinking??

i think it's all part of a conspiracy by a well informed bahtbus driver.....

  11. Brilliant! do they take on farangs as well?...there is a similar venue organised by the yellows as well anywhere nearby(for the evening)? i would like also to know if there are plans for a future "green party" or something, so i can order my shirts in the shape of a full traffic light and get along with my lucrative life here in LOS :o

  12. How would you explain that time to time, all of a sudden the internet cannot be accessed unless you "hide" behind an anonymous proxy? it's really weird and happens more and more frequently, i taught it was just a temporary technical problem, but then, why i can get access using a different system? is it because of the "great firewall" someone was talking about some time ago or what? also shouldn't read as "The page cannot BE found/Error 404" ? .......very suspicious

    The page cannot found/Error 404

  13. Fisherman makes gruesome discovery2009-04-08 A local fishing boat crew made a gruesome discovery recently about 18 miles out to DSCF0811.jpg

sea in the vicinity of Pai (Bamboo) Island, and took the body of a man, who they had found floating in the water, back to dry land where they were met by a Sawangboriboon paramedic rescue team and police officers.

When the rescue teams arrived, they observed the fishing boat towing the dead body towards the dock. Upon closer examination the body which had no head, arms or legs from the knee down appeared to have been in the water for something like a month and probably belonged to a foreigner with a large frame.

The son of the boat owner who had made the gruesome discovery told police officers that he and four friends had been on their way back to shore after a mornings fishing when they spotted the body floating in the water. They used nets to snare and then tow the dead person back to shore whilst contacting emergency services by mobile phone.

The body, which is believed to be a foreigner, cannot be identified and a forensic laboratory will be utilised to try and find out the identity of the John Do and his cause of death.

  14. went to the Murrah coffee shop to find out about the rest of the productions as well, noticed that there the mozzarella was priced just 80 baht (against the 300-350 of the Central Store for the same product), either they realize that there is no way this can compete with the taste of the "real" stuff imported from Italy (priced around 400-500 baht) or Central was having some kind of nice profit from it, i don't know, however, the youghurt was just ok, nothing special, milk ok, ricotta a big no-no hard like a stone and poor in taste and texture a fresh ricotta should have, in other words is a bit like comparing eating at McDonald with a classy restaurant.

  15. It is limited to posters with more than 500 posts as we have had too many newbies sign up to make inappropriate tags.

Here we are! finally the secret has been unveiled, thanks! maybe the next time anyone advertise on anything, it can also put some sort of vital informations as well....just to avoid the 76.000 enquiries someone was quoting? :o

  16. I think everybody got an email from a Root Moderator requesting us to TAG our posts to assist the search process.

    I'd love to.

    Anyone know how?

yes it was from George, about a competition, i didn't really care about the competition but the "tags" thing was interesting, i could not work out how to put the tags as the tags field seems to be locked, so i just send a reply to that previous e-mail, asking for an explanation, so far, no response has been given....why to bother about it? it's just weird that someone seems so interested in want you to do something to the point to even pay you 10.000 baht and then they just block the whole thing, ah ah :o

  17. Spuey, i am glad you had just good experiences, however please allow me to remind you that you might not be immune by those random events, i mean drivers all of a sudden going to the wrong way, refusing to stop and only let you get off in places where people should not walk, asking you for 10 or 20 times what you expect to pay, grabbing your harm while you are giving him money to get more money from you, try to run you over, stopping only to quickly speed away while you try to get on the bus, believe me the list is very long but i guess that might be enough for the time being....hope you understand now, all the best

I go to Pattaya every few months and have NEVER had these things happen to me or anyone I know in many years. You are way over-exaggerating. :o

Yes, but you don't LIVE here and use them most every day:

i mean drivers all of a sudden going to the wrong way CHECK

refusing to stop and only let you get off in places where people should not walk CHECK (common)

asking you for 10 or 20 times what you expect to pay NO, but I have seen it happen to tourists

grabbing your harm while you are giving him money to get more money from you CHECK

try to run you over NO

stopping only to quickly speed away while you try to get on the bus CHECK

I can confirm the 20 times charge by first hand as i was the one being asked for it, however i didn't pay it, not my fault if i don't look exactly like a thai person, i went on front of the baht bus to take a good picture of the number plate and driver and he just pushed his foot on the gas pedal, i went to the bus baht cooperative to ask about all this and the sticker sign from a ministry showing official fares inside the bus, the boss told me it was no longer a valid sign, i went to the police and they could not be bothered, even the farang police translator dismissed the case because with " do you think that's expansive?" yes you right! it would be a great service if they were following the law, but they don't..... :D

What can i say? maybe have a "reality check" of some sort? i don't know.....but i would just repeat myself by saying that just because it never happen to you before, it doesn't mean it's never going to happen to you....you know what i mean? good luck my man
