  1. Just a few days ago The Bangkok Post ran an article about a guy who has a farm in Chachoengsau where he makes real Mozzarella di Buffala from real buffalos.

He sells his mozzarella in his shop/restaurant on Ramkhamhaeng Soi 112.

BTW, usually you don't use mozzarella di buffala for pizza. Normal mozzarella is usually used, both here and in Italy.

I bought a while ago 2 buffalo's mozzarella from the Central Store, one imported from Italy and one made here in Thailand which was about 100-150 baht cheaper, the thai version (Murrah Dairy Farm in Chachoengsao) was something really horrible, something that really hasn't got anything to do with the taste of a real mozzarella, i read they inseminated a local buffalo with the semen of a BULGARIAN buffalo, so i don't know if that's from where the problem with the taste originated from, however, that something i will never eat again for sure, not even if they give them away for free, i am sorry for all those who try this and think that's how an italian buffalo mozzarella tastes like....not even close to it....in the end, better you spend that little bit more but make sure is coming from where it supposed to(Italy) untill someone will come up with a good one locally.

  2. both would be nice....

    ????

Ok, for the "cannelloni", basically is just a lasagna shaped like a "straw" with just a single layer, lots of italian restaurants would have them on the menu, if you prefere to make them by yourself, i saw them in the Central store on the top shelf of the pasta section, regarding the "cannoli siciliani", because of many factors (price, complexity of making, perishability...) it's difficult to see them around, especially here in LoS, as a great lover of good food in general i found my way around it and i get them from a "friend of a friend" here in Bkk, they don't come cheap (200B each) but they are worth every satang, i always buy them in boxes of 10 pieces to get a better price, i also get from the same place fresh ricotta(italian soft creamy cheese) , pan di spagna(italian sponge cake), lasagne and strutto(sort of butter), ciao. :o

  3. I have a TRUE ADSL connection, when I take the cable out of one computer and plug it into the other, no little connection icon comes up and no net connection. When I phciscly plub it in, the little light changes a bit at the connection. It is running XP Pro, is there any setting I can change to fix this easily?

    Goofie

try this: go to Settings--> Network Connection--> LAN(Local Area Network) then right click on it, go to the LAN Properties

select TCP/IP Settings (Properties), make sure you put a tick in "Obtain an IP Address Automatically" and "Obtain DNS Address Automatically" , click OK, that should fix it i hope, otherways just let us to know the details of any probs you might have (ie: warning messages, etc) :o

  4. I am planning(or was) to apply for a visa extension on the basis of being an unmarried father .......i will have all the paperwork necessary but my friend went to apply at the helpful immigration office in Jomtien and was refused and told he needs to get the court paper to say he is the father etc. He had all the required paperwork in order, registered the baby at the local amphur,he went to immigration with the mother(his long term girlfriend) and the baby so now hes going to have to go to court. I dont know how that works? do you have to get a lawyer? Is there a long wait to get a court date? what do you do when you go to the court? it seems like just another hassle and they should have give him the extension without all this bull. Anybody else gone through this yet? :o

A friends of mine was in the same situation at the same little office, he went there for a different matter but he's been offered a full year stay on the basis of his daughteer(he just mentioned by chance of his daughteer and promptly they offered the service, good customer service eh?), nevermind he had little documentation about it, but it seems they where expecting a "little" perks afterwards, if i was in you i was going directly to bkk or any other office where they use different working standards and because of the new law that say you have to go to the relevant office where you reside, just take a small holiday for sometime and give them that address....good luck and let us to know about it

  5. Going past there today I noticed a large advertising for a new (Mongolian Style) Seafood Buffet beginning on February 15th 2009.

It's at the Sea Breeze Restaurant on Jomtien Beach Road 347 Moo 12 . The price is 350 Baht for as much as you can eat.

I'll be giving it a go and will report back.

....i always tought mongolians didn't had a sea :o , this world is changing way too fast for me :D

  6. Hua Hin, Soi 102. It's a ways back up the hill, so follow the signs...
    Hua Hin. Soi 102...

I was looking for Singkhon on Google Maps and could not find it, not even when I used the Thai name สิงขร

If either of you has Google Earth on your computer, could you please look up the coordinates and post them here, as well as the full street address? I would like to put a placemark for it on Google Maps, similar to what I did today already for the Bangkok immigration office. (If I got the placemark wrong, please let me know and I'll move it)

    Maestro

not 100% sure this is the place you are looking for, make sure you tick "enable photo view" on GoogleMaps, have a look: 11°47'23.02"N 99°38'33.17"E

  7. Following many problems during the last year or so with getting visa extensions processed at Jomtien Immigration, many long time xpat friends have been using the Bangkok immigration HQ to process their visa application and extension paperwork. Reports about BKK immigration admin have been very good, with processing and documentation requests exactly 'as published' and everything straight forward.

Tell me that what we are seeing here is simply the equivalent of a drug dealing 'turf war' - where an immigration office in a region where officials buy their jobs and routinely extract lucrative bribes to process applicants paperwork are trying to ensure that all punters 'on their turf' have to deal with them alone, and can't escape to the sanity of an alternative immigration center :o

The only "problem" i am aware of, is that instead of the tea bits, they are looking after a whole meal at the most expansive restaurant for a whole forthnight, unless looking at gentlemans wearing pink tops and slippers while they walk around shaking their fat ass in a weird way during their official duties is another problem for you, it look kind of funny to me, however i didn't wanna pay for the show and i went straight to bkk, were the officials might be walking around the office with toothbrush and toothpaste while another one is too busy choosing some eyeglasses from a "walking vendor" to pay attention at who's waiting for a service, however, with a bit of patient and strong sense of humor you might eventually get what you need without adding any "extras"...good luck! :D

  8. How does the GPS option work on the new Iphones in Thailand?

I have a friend who bought a newer Samsung with GPS mapping (google) but it rarely shows the correct position of where he is. I was wondering how the Iphones compare and if they update real time and show the correct poition on the map.

Hi Tuffy, yes the GPS mapping works great and in real time too, the only problem might be that all the writing in the map is in thai language, if it can be of any interest i got a spare(boxed) 16gb for 25k, works with all sims..... :o

  9. ....been there once, price is ok, the chicken was good, the pasta on the side of the plate was one of the most terrible dishes i ever tried in this country, do not ever try the pasta there, however the small cookie they give with it was a (strange with chicken) nice touch......none of the staff seems to know the meanings of the word "pollo", so i didn't dare to ask for the "koo koo" :o

  10. The best italian restaurant in Pattaya? well surely there are many, one of the main difficulties i found is that while maybe the main dish may be better in a particular place, maybe another place might be better for the dessert, it's so hard to find the "perfect" restaurant, however i can tell you what you should definetely avoid: many years ago i went to an italian restaurant in Soi BuaKaow (or something that sound like that), i believe the name was Venezia restaurant, at the end of our lunch we ordered a dessert for all of us (Tiramisu') and suddenly i discovered that the eggs on it were rotten (so, common sense would say, not for human consuption), i reported this to the owner (Mr Amos if i remember right), so we didn't eat further to avoid to spend the rest of the day at a local hospital and however i taught it was just a genuine mistake to not have checked the expiry date and we didn't make a big issue of it at all, till the "happy go lucky guy" made us to pay even for his rotten food!! i didn't step in his premises since this has happened and i made sure that all the people i know that comes regularly in Thailand and also eat italian food almost everyday, knows about his kind of business, and i am sure those few STOLEN baht (how else can i describe it?) costed him really dearly.....Happy New Year everyone!

  11. Bacardi Breezer - can't really mess that up. :o

yes they did with a friend of mine, i can't remember what else they gave him but they had no problem in replacing the drink, however, i don't think it got solved so quickly because of their genuine will to repair what was wrong,it was more about how this particular customer might be the last person someone wants to make upset when he start loosing it...

  12. And might this affect the cost of the ride from Jomtien to the Bus Station? How do people "negotiate" THIS ride? It always seems to ruin what has otherwise been a nice stay for me!

Well, this is my personal experience when i took one of these buses from Jomtien to Naklua a few weeks ago:

the driver stop and i asked if he was going toward Naklua, he said yes, i then joined other 4 people already on the bus, lots of stops in between and many other people jumping in and out, once arrived to my stop (the bus still had 2 more customers on it) i gave the driver 20baht (me + gf), the old driver replied to me very annoied, he wanted 100baht, i have been struggling there about 10 minutes and after many arguments i took a picture of him and his number plate (because the A4 driver ID they put at the back was just a piece of white paper with nothing written on it, just his picture....) and gave him 60baht, i then went to the local police station to report him in Beach Rd, my gf explained to an officer( he had at least 2 stars on his shoulders) what happened but he refused to speak with me a single word of english and called their interpreter, Josh, that basically say to me that it was a fair price and it's not 10 baht each because i "spoken to the driver" before to get in and "...do you think 100 baht is too much in Pattaya?" not happy with his explanation i went to a second police station at the beginning of Walking Street but nobody was there, just an open police small building with a pc inside, on my way home i try also the other police station at the beginning of Jomtien were the 2 officers still say that 100baht was ok, nevermind the thai law that mention the fare should not be more then 10 baht per person (unless you hire the whole bus, so no stops in between with other people joining in), they just didn't want to take into consideration this. The following day i went to the bus cooperative to get some more explanations, as this sticker i read on one of the bus about this law was mentioning to them in case of complaints, their boss told me that the correct fare should have been that 60baht and that law was referring to the previous year and was now out of date, promising to replace all the old stickers with an updated one this month(December), they then traked the number plate on one of their books and called in the old driver in, it doesn't seems they have taken any other action, i am just wondering if this department of land transportation which issued the law are aware on how the local police couldn't be bothered about it at all......(i don't think it was "expired" as i have been told), however if before i was quite happy to use the local service, from now on i don't think i will ever use them again, too many troubles and the problem is not in the fare itself (obviously), i was quite happy to pay much more then that if it was clear from the beginning, just that feeling to being ripped off while maybe everyone else is paying the agreed fare, why it should be so difficult for these people to stick to rules? i don't think anybody likes to purchase something not knowing how much it would cost, isn't?
