I would think a lot of this would be medical tourism. Just look in any of the major hospitals along Rama IX and even Sukhumvit - there are a lot of MIddle eastern clients now and even the signage is in Arabic and Farsi.
And let's not forget the thousands of Arabs who stay in and around Arab Street in Pattaya for medical treatment so they can be close to...what's the name of that hospital in South Pattaya? You know, close to where all the signs are in Arabic and Farsi...where all the Middle Eastern restaurants are located? So many Arabs that there must be a hospital in there somewhere. Why else why they come to Pattaya?

Thank you KataBeachBum and MoonRiverOasis.

What are the latest Thai government plans to discontinue
the availability of 91 octane regular petrol? It had been
reported (rumored? discussed?) that it would be eliminated
in favor of gasahol sometime soon (this year or next).
Does anyone have any recent information on that subject,
or on what considerations are being made for older model
cars?
Thanks.

How do you say MERRY CHRISTMAS in Chinese?

Does anyone have any suggestions of what is the best read in Pattaya at the moment, it would be good to hear from readers rather than other advertisers about what they read and why. Not really interested too much in local news because you can get that on the web, I want to see good columns. By the way, don't even mention Pattaya People Weekly, that trash is not worthy of being called a newspaper. Their new layout and graphics are shockingly amateur.
Your feedback please
Thanks,
Jamie
'Jamie', the best read newspaper in Pattaya is Pattaya Mail.
It's Fun Town's most vibrant, been around the longest, is most respected, and has
some great columns.

Hi, jamiej
And hello to all others interested in Pattaya Today. The paper is indeed alive and well. (Maybe not so well, but alive.)
There is a new issue out as of Sept 1. It includes none of those popular (and some not so popular) columns that have appeared for years. A new managing director is taking over and the former chief is rumored to have left the Kingdom.
Your ads will continue to appear, Jamiej...not to worry. Some revamping will take place and it should be for the better.
The fact is that the former owner (who took control only two years ago) was having personal and financial problems which led to the decline in quality. Two former employees have returned and will get things back on track within a matter of days. Not sure we'll again see Handy Andy or Kris & Noi (I know we will not see Nightmarch which is now in Pattaya Trader and Pattaya Times).
The office still is where it has been for the last five years. I think they may be trying to rent a portion of it.

I've been treated for actinic keratosis with both methods (liquid nitrogen and laser) at different times over the last 30 years and had equal success. What impresses me most about this post is the low fee. 600 baht for specialist, treatment, exam, etc., all inclusive! But Chiang Mai is too far.
I would be interested in knowing if such deals are available in the Pattaya area. I've been paying 1,500 baht and more at Bangkok Hospital Pattaya for liquid nitrogen treatments; the fee for a biopsy is 6,000 to 8,000 baht. I don't want to sacrifice effectiveness for price--particularly where health is concerned, but the procedures are standard practice, so if I can slash the expense I could afford to visit a <br>dermatologist that much more often.
Can anyone recommend an affordable dermatologist in or around Pattaya?

Tokay: How about the focus on education for a while and actually teach them something for a change.
Don't worry about their clothes.

Using a separate serving spoon in all collective dishes is an excellent way of preventing desease transmition from an infected person to all of the other diners , I passed this information along to my extended family . The other thing of course is to ensure hand washing before eating , especially with children , one more thing , washing flip-flops is VERY important as they are recorded as carrying the most bacteria of all , look where people walk with them . When they are 'Flipped off at the entrance' other footwear should be provided if you have small children , the bacteria they carry is transmitted to the foot , deposited across the floor and thence to a small childs mouth playing on the contaminated floor . Walls and floors should be washed with clorinated , soapy water on a regular basis also to kill off even more possible bacteria , pay attention to door handles , the PC key-board is also notorious for the germs it carries .
Good info, dumball. Thank you...and for the tips. Everyone should be aware of these precautions.

MLS--I'm by no means an expert on this topic, but it seems to me you
would be better served if you were to see an ophthalmologist rather
than an optician (whose expertise is the crafting of lenses, not thorough
eye exams). Just a thought.

I think there is one near McDonalds. Turn right just before you reach Family Mart.

Thank you for all the help everyone.

You're a good person. Jai dee.

We've had Bloomberg in Pattaya for years until about two months ago. Sophon says they are renegotiating their contract to carry the channel again. But they said the same thing six months ago when they lost MNet, a year ago when they lost CNN, two years ago when they lost CNBC, three years ago when they lost StarWorld, etc., etc. My guess is that we've seen the last of Bloomberg here. My fear is that Fashion TV might be the next victim
-
.
About a week ago, the manager of the building I live in sent out an eMail re: Bloomberg. She was in touch with Sophon and said the Sophon technicians were working on restoring it, but alas, it still hasn't happened.
.
Sophon said the same thing about MNET a year ago, about CNN two years ago,
about Star World three years ago, and so on. None of those channels reappeared
and, I suspect, Bloomberg is gone for good as well.

At rates ranging from 750B to 950B it's hard to argue that the hotel is overpriced.
Granted, accommodations are not luxurious, but certainly adequate. It's a relatively
new hotel (less than 4 years old) located in the middle of the best action in Pattaya
(just off Walking Street). It features free Wifi, room safes, excellent and friendly
service. Beyond which, it's guest friendly. I liked the place.

Excellent and informative post, Xenophanes.
Thank you. A real eye opener.

Nightmarch—that popular and venerable column devoted to Pattaya nightlife—is back.
It makes its debut in today’s issue of Pattaya Times. (Friday May 7.)
Formerly an integral feature in Pattaya Today for eight years, Nightmarch also appears
monthly in Pattaya Trader, had been a regular item in Pattaya Mail and, until recently,
in Asia Bugle.
The entertaining and informative column is expected to appear in each issue of the fortnightly
Pattaya Times. While its focus is the good and the bad venues on and off Walking Street,
Nightmarch also comments and reports on other aspects of Sin City’s nightlife, bar beers,
working girls and other areas of interest to expts and visitors alike.

Unfortunately, it is still going and still wasting time. But it's not alone in presenting crap
to TV viewers.

Check Carrefour and Makro. They have adequate coffee makers (10 cup) starting
at 399 baht. Just bought one to replace same model I had been using here for the
last 9 years. No problems.

Sincere thanks to you all for the information, links, telephone numbers.

Does anyone know of a testing laboratory or clinic in Bangkok where I can have my blood analyzed? I'm interested in testing for cholesterol, blood sugar, triglycerides, etc., and I want to avoid the high charges imposed by hospitals that provide such services. The closer to MBK the better. Thank you.

No specific experience in Phuket, but I've been using dermatologists at Bangkok Hospital
Pattaya for years. More expensive than clinics--both for visits and liquid nitrogen treatments--
but competent. Bangkok Pattaya Phuket has a skin center and staff of dermatologists whom
I suspect would be equally competent.

So typically Thai to focus on the symptoms rather than resolving the problem.
Will lower air fares, extra insurance or free visas be incentive enough to attract
tourists to enjoy the dangers of Bangkok? Will one more jolly press release
convince the world that Thailand is a traveler's paradise? The chaos, killings and
public disorder has gone on long enough. It's time for rule of law to be taken
seriously.
