  1. Any country, home or Foreign, you need to be careful, theres a lot of screwed up people out there.. as a lot of you know already.

And whilst caution is advised, dont let that control your life, there are _good_ people out there and it would be a shame to brush them off (and loose a potentially good friend/Lover/Soul mate) just because some other ###### gave you a bad time X number of weeks/months/years ago.

As the saying goes, you have to sort the wheat from the chaff.

  2. Personally i cant see this working out... last year every man and his dog were out lobbing water at anything that moved, do you seriously think the local thai's will take a blind bit of notice of this? Nah i dont think so.

I agree, whole heartedly, with the sentiment behind this idea, it can be dangerous on a motorbike this time of year, but a little bit of common sense can avoid most of the accidents.

And if this does happen (and lets hope it doesnt) do you honestly think that the three areas designated will be enough? There should be at least one area per "town" on the island, limiting it to Patong, Saphan Hin and Nai Yang is possibly the worst idea to come out of this country since Taskins daddy kissed Taskins mom.

  3. Im looking to get myself something better than dial-up for Phuket island. I have looked around and havent been able to find anything with a decent speed or within an affordable price range.

I looked at the GPRS stuff and the overall true speed was about the same as dial-up, the only advantage to it would be not having to have a phone line.

I need something marginaly faster (128k will do) but (and heres the crunch) i need low ping counts, as the data i will send/recieve will be burst data. I need fast response times, the connection will be primarily for online gameing.

Anyone know of any offers or providers that might be able to help me at all? I would consider a restricted connection (i.e. x number of hours or xgb data transfer) but would prefer something without restrictions, oh and obviously needs to have international access.

  4. Yes and No, that was coming from a Thai woman. Too old for being called a girl, I guess. :o

o_O - apologies, let me rephrase...

that coming from an old thai woman...

    Any better? :D:D

  5. Depends on your needs.

Most expats live in Nai Harn - great beaches /Chalong - great restaurants / Rawai - okay nightlife and these areas are all within 5 minutes of each other on the South of the island.

Kata is a very touristy area and not many people live there, although many good restaurants and beaches.

Karon is okay but a bit of a no man's land - more of an area to drive through to get to somewhere else as opposed to a place to live.

Patong is crazyville, beach is saturated with extras, a great place to holiday but it takes a fella with a hardened heart to live there for any length of time.

Kamala is ok but don't expect to keep a dog for many months, again more of a place to pass through.

Surin / Bang Tao is a more high class holiday / residential area, most housing is in the million dollar category, good beaches and restaurants.

Phuket City (cough) is a royal pain in the a.ss for traffic, seems no time of the day is a good time to drive into /out of it. Good nightlife/restaurants.

East coast is becoming more popular but beaches aren't anywhere near as nice as on the west.

Nai Thon is beautiful but far far away from anything.

best bet? put up a tent in the big C carpark.

I like Chalong, no too "farangified", some nice places to go eat/drink. Fairly central to get to any of the more lively spots (Phuket _town_, Kata/Karon) and not too far from Phukets "Blackpool" aka Patong.

Rawai and Nai Harn are ok, but a bit too far away from the social scene, a lot of ex-pats live down that way which has recently caused a surge in rental prices, for what i pay for a nice two bedroom house in chalong would have got me a sh1tty box in rawai. Couple of nice bars (real bars, not girlie bars) in rawai, just remember to check your bill before you pay it.

Patong, well you can keep it in my opinion, good to go there for a night out with the lads, but i wouldnt live there if you paid me. Phuket "Town" is ok, but far too busy, noisey and smelly for my likeing. Further North than Phuket town and patong, i couldnt really say, im more of a south person myself.

    What are you looking for?

  6. Never mind the quality, feel the length  :o

The length is not everything at times :D

Thats coming from a thai girl?

49, 52 or 54... which do you prefer?

(ok i know its not length, cut me some slack, kthxbye)

  7. We farang girls are hard work, what with all the drinks that need buying, the witty converstaion we require, the making an effort to get us in the sack. It really can be quite tiring for all these young bucks :D

    /waves furiously

Not too tireing for me, finding a farang woman who doesnt look at me like im some perverted sex tourist is the tiring bit.

"Oh you live in Phuket, eh?... bloody pervert" :o

    I'm sooo misunderstood, its criminal

  8. Well the best i'va managed to locate is a couple of very very drunk Finnish girls who were quite into me, tourists, prolly looking for a holiday fling... i didnt follow that one up on the basis their thai was non-existant and their english only marginally better... and i had a date with a VAT and a pool cue... sad but true.

Could have been interesting, maybe i should have investigated that one further??? :o

  9. A sensible, intellegent conversation with a woman that doesnt involve the words "mai cow jai" - thats a novelty, cant remember the last one of those i had... waaaaay too long ago, its a bit of a bugger really, the only thing i "miss" from home... <sigh>

I dont think i can even remember those treasured skills of "Chatting up the girl you like" its not like "chatting up" skills are needed out here, those thai girls think "Hello" is a chat up line.

Any single farang ladies in phuket that fancy a bottle of wine or two and a sensible conversation? (well, it will _start_ sensible, prolly wouldnt end up that way after too much wine!)

    Apply within.
