  1. Thank you for that post neenthewiser, it was quite possibly the most enlightening, well thought out, well structured and informative peice of virtual literature i've ever had the (mis)fortune to read. I can see all the constructive and useful nuggets of information you chose to impart to us, you truely are a blessed individual.

Now put your straight jacket back on and go back to your padded cell, i think its time for you to take your medication again.

  2. whats the weather like btw ?

Whats the weather like? hot, damned hot.. its so damned hot i saw one of those little guys in the orange robes burst into flames!

hehe, love that film, anyway, back to the advertised programme.

Weather today, Monday 24th is warm and cloudy, been gettign a bit windy at nights around my gaff, with the occasional rain shower at night/overnight. The rainy seasons not hit just yet, its obviously waiting for english guys to arrive before lashing it down in a tropical stormy styley.

This weather forcast was brought to you by beer Chang, the beer of Champions!

(no disrespect intended to the buddist monks, i was quoteing the film 'Good Morning Vietnam')

  3. I took the following... i'm not 100% what is actually _required_ par se.

1x completed copy of the application form

2x Driving license sized photos (the really small ones, not passport size)

1x Photocopy of all relevant pages of my Passport

1x Photocopy of all relevant pages of my Work Permit

1x Docters cert stateing i'm in good health

    My original passport for verification

My original work permit for verification.

Fee - 55baht, extra 15baht to laminate it onsite.

Additional expenses 200 baht for cold drinks, plate of rice etc (its a long day, beleive me!)

I do know that the work permit thing can be replaced with trebian ban (or how ever its spelt) but i do know you can get some paperwork from the immigration office if you dont have a work permit/trebian ban etc, i'm not sure what the "paper work" is as i didnt need to go get it, sorry i cant be more helpful there.

    The day progressed like this.

    8:00am

Turned up early hoping to get sorted quicker, joined the queue of the other 100 people who turned up early.

    9:00am

Got all my paperwork checked by the offical, found i had everything in order

    10:00am

Got given a road regulations book to read

    10:30am

Took the written test, scored 20/20

    10:35am

Took the colour test, had to take a second colour test as im partially colour blind :o

    10:45am

Told to come back at 1pm.

    13:00pm

Arrived, floated around the office until i realised i was supposed to go round the back for the practicle test.

    13:10pm

Handed in all my paperwork to a nice looking lady who was the examiner.

    13:15pm

Waited around for my turn to do the praticle.

    14:30pm

    Did my praticle, passed.

    14:35pm

Paid my fees, queued up for half an hour, got given a card with loads of thai writing on it (had a number and told me it was a minimum 1hr to process the license)

    15:45pm

Picked up my license, took it round the side to get laminated

    16:00pm

Drove around phuket town/chalong looking for police checks, i wanted to show them my shiney new license! Buggers stopped everyone except me, reckon the transport office must have faxed through that days applicants or something!

Long old day, but ultimately worth it in the end.

  4. Get an international driving license, then this problem simply goes away...

Costs roughly a fiver sterling, RAC or something, its only valid for 30days. My mate did it a few months back when he came over on holiday to visit me... all he had to do was fill out some forms, send a copy of his license etc, i'm sure its not going to be much different in other countries (he applied in the UK)

Umm a fiver... thats just over 300baht, so get stopped once and its paid for itself already.

If 30 days isnt going to be long enough, or you travel here often, why dont you do yourself a huge favour and get your bum down the transport office and sit the test for a thai driving license? Costs 70baht, just takes most of the day waiting around.

It allows you so many other privledges as well, like discounts at certain attractions, can be used as an offical form of identification and presenting one to a copper at a check point means you get dismissed without a thought.

But its like someone else said above, its a common law all over the world, if you went to the US, UK, Europe, Middle east, Far east where ever and intended to hire a car/motorbike then you would have thought youd be sensible enough to get your license in order (many western hire companies ask for a copy of your license when you hire the vehicle anyway)

Just because they never did it before, doesnt mean they are wrong to start doing it now... either pay up or get your license in order, tourists, expats, knowitall's alike.

  5. I've been on TV quite a few times, mainly back in the UK. I managed to get my pretty blond haired, blue eyed face on Tiswas (the swapshop bit), and also one of the kiddie programs where the kids get asked questions about stuff and the funny answers get televised, i cant for the life of me remember the name of the program!

I've also been on Thai TV, almost every channel, about 18mths ago... not telling you why though :o

  6. Dont blame the people who were there doing the shooting, they were acting on orders, according to the news post, and if faced with 10+ people running at me with long <deleted> knives with a fanatical look in their eyes, and i had a gun i would shoot, a lot, its me or him, so hes gotta go. Would i shoot them in the legs? If ordered to shoot to kill then no, if not then i dont know, depends how many of them there were, etc.

Either way, some thing isnt working. Thaksin, maybe. Muslim terrorists, maybe.

  7. Went out and about tonight, had a look around, didnt goto patong. Not so many tourists, just the usual 15 coaches of japanese watching the sunset at sunset point :D

Nobody around otherwise. Lot of places have closed up for low season.

Havent heard any stories of people rushing off home cos of the goings on down south, but its certainly not going to be a plus point for people chooseing here as a holiday.

Anyway, if the uprising were gunna go anywhere, they would go to Pattaya first, so hows the front line looking? :D

The Gents protecting the rear, you have nothing to worry about, no, really, honest... :o

  8. Falangs/Expats are basically.....Old, Fat, Bald, Sweaty, Smelly, and Socially Unacceptable Mis-fit Cretins, most of which are drunks, and that are in Thailand to force themselves on young girls working in the bars?

    Old? nah i'm 30

Fat? yeah, maybe a little bit :o

Bald? Nah full head of hair here and no grey either!

Sweaty? Its <deleted> 'ot here, wadda you expect?

Smelly? See above, just gotta shower 15times a day

Socially Unacceptable Mis-fit Cretins? Man, you go me, i'm a social outcast.

most of which are drunks? Yep, getting drunk is part of the rules...

force themselves on young girls working in the bars? Man youve gotta come here, theres no "forcing" from the male point of view (in my experience) they force themselves onto you!!!

  9. You are a <deleted>.  FUG JAM, your remarks about gassing certain people are a bit over the top.........................................

My gassing spree would only involve Sex Tourists, they would not be missed by anyone,

    Hypocrite
Isn't it strange how people act when faced with the harsh truth about themselves, please guy's do not be so defensive, i am in  no position to set up a gas chamber in Don Muang,

Shame, we could have stuck cretins like you in there.

your Sexual exploitation of other human beings will go unpunished on this Earth, you only answer to yourselves, you live with your own actions.

Judgement Day will come to you all.

for F***s sake, another bible bashing fanatic, take your holier than thou attitude and go suck a lemon...

So let me get this right, you want to gass everyone who has sex in the name of retribution and judgement? Do yourself a favour, go pay for a BJ, sounds like you need one.

  10. Personally i think most of the people that visit this site and Thailand are sex tourists
No i'm not, and you simply cant prove it.
Would you travel thouands of miles to go to Thailand for any other reason?

The Beaches, The Climate, The food, the people, the fact it isnt home???

Want me to go on, or is that enough reason?

Personally i would like to see Bars closed, sex tourists rounded up and publically humiliated, before being deported back to their own country where they would be exposed to their friends and families as an exploiter.
I think if you managed to pull that one off, you might be the one who was humiliated... just a thought
And pls do not try to tell me that the Thai girls are preying on the Farangs, you fat bastards travel thousands of miles with the sole intent of having cheap sex with financially vunerable people half your age, do not try to justify your actions by passing on the shame to the real Victims, you people that come to Thailand for sex should be gassed on arrival

Hey, i'm not a slender, toned, six-pack kinda guy, but i aint fat. I didnt travel thousands of miles just for that, i came to visit family out here, work out here and get away from the cold rain that i used to wake upto every morning... Finacially vunerable? I think your average BG earns twice what i earn - so maybe finacially vuneable compaired to your dole check, boyo. As for the Gassing comment, well that just about sums up what your seen as here... I think Spee nailed that one.

Thaksin is a nice Guy, i would be much harder....................................

Father Christmas comes once a year, the tooth fairy is real and the easter bunny was round my house for a slice of battenberg and a yorkshire tea not 5 minutes ago....

Man i needed a good troll to bait, had a dire day at work today!

  11. like radical feminists, fundamentalist Moslems, Christianity based religious sects, woman rights activists, human rights activists......and so on.....

I came here to get away from them kinda people, looks like the found/follwed me guys...

Sorry about that, tis my fault! :o

  12. They enter a battle of wits but are almost completely unarmed. When they find that they are losing, they reach for the only weapon they brought with them – the flamethrower.
Depriving an village somewhere of its Idiot...
I expect I’ll get some of the usual replies to this such as “If you don’t like it, get lost” and worse.

If you dont like it, get lost... or worse :D

That’s okay. I may decide that it’s not worth the trouble, take your advice and lose this bookmark

Dont do that, youll be missing all the fun!

I agree with you 100% unfortunately there are those that specialise in trolling, ignore them, dont read a thread if it starts to get on your nerves (goes off topic, full of trolls etc or is politically orientated) The secret to surviving the trolls is to just ignore them... once youve finished giving them a peice of your mind that is :o

  13. Hey Wolfie, its been open about 2 months, worth the drive?

I second your Kebab thoughts, a yiros would be also great.

In Chalong (across the road from the police station) there is a kebab type place, not to bad either - but not exactly what we are all looking for.

Shows how often i goto the airport! ha!

The kabab place you talk of is just down the road from me, problem is they are not open at 4am (the time you NEED a kabab) theres no processed meat and quite frankly they are somewhat below par! :D

Right then, time to employ a couple of greek layabouts (no offence meant to the general greek populace) and open a proper compass kabab shop that doesnt open until midnight...

I should make a killing with that idea, i wonder if i could afford an "elite" card by this time next year??? :o

  14. Really gets me when you are in the bar and a BG comes over and starts massaging your shoulders and then asks for a drink after a minute, all you want to do is play Pool.

Good point though, perhaps these girls are being pressurised by the Bar Owner to get as much as possible out of the customer, Drink, Bar Fine etc.

The bar fine/Drink thing is (i'm 99.999% sure) pressure from the bar owners. At the end of the day that bar is there to sell you a "service" nothing wrong with the owner of said company encouraging you to spend more... tis a dog eat dog world out there ya'know.

Maybe i'm just a tight-a$$ but i just smile and say no (miow khrap) they soon bugger off when they realise my money isnt their money. Blatently ignoreing them works well also (i use that tactic on the flower sellers/glowing bouncing ball sellers)

Dun let it get to you, their just doing their "job" ignore them and sink that black already! :o

  15. In Phuket we have McDonalds, Pizza Company and used to have a Burger King in town, but that vanished - if you want Burger King, you have to drive all the way to the airport as there is a new one in there.

    We have a Burger King???

Man i might have to go take a drive upto the airport!!!

What Phuket really needs is one of those back street Kabab shops run by a couple greeks that stays open until 4/5am, like we used to get back home...

Buy a "compass" kabab and let it lead you home after a hard nights drinking!
