  1. There is still a few bugs that need to be ironed out and i believe some of the data migration scripts are still running... if you find any bugs/problems, please check the Support forum and report them there (its a bit easier to keep all the feedback in one area) - the new look/layout will take a little getting used to, some of the old functionality has been renamed or moved location... so bear with us for a little bit :)

  4. I have never had anything opened by Thai Customs in 5 years to give you some idea. You have to be sensible tho obviously if the goods description is Sony Laptop and the value is $200. It raise an eyebrow or 2.

I've had one package opened by them, but they still accepted the declared value and nothing went missing - so it could happen

  5. Hi there -

I have been searching for a place selling WD Raptor HD in BKK for some time now, any help locating such a shop would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks for the info in advance.

    Eberhard

Pantip, ground floor, close to Jedi cool, one of the kiosk style places... 300gb Raptor, 6800b

  6. Does anyone know what the Thai customs rate is, say for a laptop? 10%, 15%, 30%, etc.

It can be as high as 40% for 'Luxury' items... when ever i have imported stuff to Thailand (and got stung by Customs) its been anywhere between 20% to 40% depending on the mood of the customs officer on the day.

  7. Looking at the prices i think SSD's are still a little out of my desired budget... i cant justify almost 20k for a 160gb drive :)

Those Raptors looks good, nice and quick and reasonably priced, i will swing by Pantip later and see if i can find one.

  8. I've got a HDD in my base unit at home that is failing, i need to replace it.

As a Gamer, i'm looking for a kick-ass fast drive, so im considering a SSD.

Whats the Biggest size these days and the general price?

I could go with some thing like a 250gb SSD and a 500gb HDD for general storage.

Whats the performance like on the SSD's these days?

    Any advice, suggestions or links?

  9. Keep in mind if you want Thai fonts, it involves 'rooting' your phone (lol - i love that phrase!)

This will mean you lose HTC Sense and lose the OTA updates etc, also means you invalidate your warranty etc...

Personally, i am waiting for HTC's release of Android 2.2 which natively supports Thai Font (i am informed)

  10. Ron did what any reasonable man would have done, in the circumstances :) IMHO

My beef isnt that the guy took the child to a hospital, that is the correct course of action in this situation. My issue is that the guy apparently dumped the child somewhere and walked away... luckily the child was found quite quickly, but what if the child hadn't been found for a long time? or worse still some miscreant found the child before the staff and abducted it?

Surely the best approach here would have been to inform the Hospital staff... if the guy didn't want to be directly involved then just walk to the information desk "I just saw someone leave a pram with a child in it over there - you should go check it out!"

Ron (or whatever his name is) is generally a good soul for trying to handle the situation, he was put in a very difficult situation by the child's mother but he fell short of being the decent guy some here are claiming because he walked into a hospital, left the child in a corridor somewhere and left without a word. That's my issue with the scenario that's been painted for us.

  11. There are worse characters than him. There are bad characters who could've done any other action rather than "make sure the baby was ok".

In my eyes the story could've had a much much drastically worse ending

I am not disputing that, yes this could have been much much worse.

However, walking into a hospital with an 8mth old baby, discarding/abandoning/leaving the baby and then simply walking away without even a word to any of the authorities does not make him the 'Decent bloke' you are all singing about...

  12. CHON BURI: -- An 8-month-old baby girl was found discarded inside the Memorial Pattaya Hospital early Thursday.

Am i the only one who thinks that leaving a baby (even in a hospital) isn't a good thing, like most of you are suggesting.

Simple fact.. he abandoned the child, discarded is the exact phrase the news article used... I don't give a rats ass if the guy was the kids father, step-father or just some random guy tapping the Thai mother, you don't just discard/abandon a 8mth old baby in a hospital and walk away... If this guy was such a decent chap, as most of you are suggesting, then physically handing over the child to the authorities is the right course of action, not getting to the hospital grounds and leaving the baby carriage somewhere and walk away.

  13. If you get an Xbox in Thailand, it will very likely be chipped. If it is chipped then you wont be able to play online.

If it is chipped, you can play the hooky pirated games.

If you get a PS3 in Thailand, it will not be chipped, so you can play online and have no fear of getting your machine locked out by the corporation.

Games vary between 1000-2000b each for the PS3, for originals, the original xbox games cost around the same i think.

The PS3 is a far superior machine, in my opinion, the Xbox is prone to over heating, i had mine for about 12mths before it died on me... beware!

i think the XBox's sell for around 14,000-15,000 and the PS3's sell for around 11,000-14,000

  14. You really need to get over this 'i must buy online' concept you seem to be hanging onto...

If you buy something online and ship it to Thailand you will likely get stung by customs import tax (which can be as high as 40%) and you will have to cover postage costs, deal with the frustrations of finding a site that will send your goods to a different country to your card etc.

You are much better off getting away from your monitor, going down to Pantip or Fortune Town and buying there. if you are worried about after sales service, then just goto one of the brand shops (Sony, Dell, Aser etc) and buy from them, you will get the same warrenty as you would from buying online but without the hassle (and risk of import tax)

For Fortune Town, the easiest way is to take the MRT (Subway) to Rama 9 station, for Pantip just jump in a taxi and tell him "Pantip Plaza" - trust me on this, you will thank me in the end :)

  15. Save yourself a few $$$ and get your self down to Fortune or Pantip. You will save money on the actual purchase, dont have to worry about shipping and can take the unit home with you there and then. Even with the traditional "3% surcharge for credit cards' most of the shops insist on, it will still be cheaper than buying online... (and lets not even start with the possible 40% import duty that customs can charge you if they want to!)

lastly, have you tried any of the links suggested in the "Computer/Networking FAQs and References" section?

    Hope that helps

  16. Ok ,so ive got my lovely shiny HTC Desire all configured and set up... everything is good in the world...

Seamlessly integrates with Gmail, Facebook etc... lovely...

    ... except...

When i get service messages (i.e. SMS's from DTAC, Citibank, SomeSpamOrganisation etc) it seems to want to associate that to one of my facebook friends...

Whilst its easy to spot them (its always the same FB Friend) and its possible to identify who actually sent the message, it is a touch annoying.

At first, i figured i had done something wrong, so i checked all the settings, investigated the FB friends account etc, nothing... next i thought it was just a bug or something that had incorrectly associated these numbers with that FB friend, so i deleted the friend from my friends list (so harsh!) but the next day i get another service message and guess what... its linked itself to another FB friend... how annoying!

Has anyone seen this, heard of this or experienced this? Does anyone know a why to disable/stop this?

Its not really a major issue, the only Service SMS message i get that i am interested in is the DTAC one telling me what my bill payment is... so i can live with it if i have to, but i would prefer to fix this

  17. Thai script support will be coming with the Android 2.2 release, which HTC will do an update for that some time in june (25th i heard)

My phone is not hacked/rooted - so its still in its 'out of the box' state. No buyers remorse with the phone, im still enjoying it, wish there were more apps available in the market place, but i guess i could get access to more if i did hack my phone and there are new apps coming almost daily. I still hold the opinion that this phone is going to be the iPhone killer.

  18. I tried adding your two entries. The second - mms - is not selectable - no tick mark. Checked mms.dtac.co.th and that doesn't exist. I think whatever got QS's mms to work wasn't the mms entry. Maybe changes to the primary entry?

Have your APN troubles gone away? Just curious :)

  19. I'm a recent HTC Desire owner, but i have to say you need to look at this phone if you are considering a touch screen. Its 2/3rd of the price of an iPhone and works exceptionally well... I liked the iPhone until i saw this phone... I haven't 'hacked' mine yet, but out-of-the-box its a better phone already.

  20. I was not receiving mms' with one apn or with two , until i fixed the second mms apn by changing the apn type from default to mms.

I changed nothing else. I didnt even have to select the MMS APN to receive the picture message, only the GPRS APN was selected. In fact after setting up the mms apn you can not select it. Yet it still worked.

That's my experience as well.. the MMS APN is not selected, just simply being there is enough

Ive sent a couple of test MMS's and received a couple as well.. it works for me
