  1. That was one of the first things I tried (See post #57).

    But weird it is, sure!

Its a long shot, but what Apps have you installed? Perhaps there is something screwing with your APN settings?

    I am on DTAC also, here are the two APN's i have set up;

    1. Name: dtac

    APN: www.dtac.co.th

    Proxy: not set

    Port: not set

    username: not set

    password: not set

    server: not set

    MMSC: http://mms.dtac.co.th:8002

    MMS Proxy: 203.170.229.34

    MMS Port: 8080

    MMS Protocol: WAP 2.0

    MCC: 520

    MNC: 18

    Auth Type: not set

    APN Type: Default

    2. Name: dtac mms

    APN: mms

    Proxy: not set

    Port: not set

    username: not set

    password: not set

    server: not set

    MMSC: http://mms.dtac.co.th:8002

    MMS Proxy: 203.170.229.34

    MMS Port: 8080

    MMS Protocol: WAP 2.0

    MCC: 520

    MNC: 18

    Auth Type: not set

    APN Type: mms

I set these up manually, im not even sure the second is needed or not as it seems to only 'connect' to the first one.

Cross check these settings with yours (your on DTAC i saw) and see if there is anything different.

Let me know how you get on

  2. That is strange mate, i might suggest you restore the phone to factory settings and see if the problem persists.

I have not had an iota of trouble with my handset, I use WiFi mostly, but even the GPRS when i am no where near my familiar WiFi Spots works like a charm... I set up both a GPRS and a MMS APN, had to dig around on the interweb for the settings but once it was all established, its been working fine.

  3. Once Pantip is open for business again (tomorrow?) i suggest just going down to one of the stores there, price up the components then find a store that will put it all together for you... i usually get them to do that when i buy/replace a Motherboard & CPU - i really hate fiddling around with those, the rest of the stuff (GFX, RAM, HDD etc) are usually very easy and simple to install yourself. Most good boards come with Sounds board onboard, so thats usually one less thing to worry about.

Most of the shops are willing to put it all together for you, if you ask them nicely. I have never been charged for this service, but if i was ever asked i'd happily pay 100-200b for someone in the shop to put it all together.

  4. · We advise against all travel to the city of Bangkok.

    · There were a number of violent incidents in Bangkok on 19 May, after security forces cleared anti-Government Red Shirt protest sites. Following the dispersal of these protests, acts of violence are continuing to occur in various parts of the city.

    · The situation is highly unpredictable and further acts of violence are likely. British nationals already in Bangkok should stay indoors and monitor this travel advice and local media. British nationals elsewhere in Thailand should wherever possible take transport services which do not involve transiting Bangkok.

    · On 19 May, the Thai Government announced a curfew, from 20:00 on 19 May to 06:00 on 20 May in the city of Bangkok and in the following 21 other provinces: Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, Nakhon Pathom, Ayutthaya, Chon Buri, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lampang, Nakhon Sawan, Nan, Khon Kaen, Udon Thani, Chaiyaphum, Nakhom Ratchasima, Si Saket, Ubon, Nong Bua Lumphu, Mahasarakham, Roi Et, Sakhon Nakhon, Kalasin and Muk Da Han. It is possible that this curfew may be extended for a longer period.

    · Suvarnabhumi airport in Bangkok is operating as normal. The route to the airport from Bangkok city remains open but you should look at our travel advice and the media for any other information.

    · The Thai Government have said that travel to and from the airport is permitted in curfew hours provided you are able to show officers at checkpoints your passport and airline ticket. However, in view of the risk of violence, we advise any British nationals currently in Bangkok to remain indoors during the curfew period. If you need to travel to the airport, we advise you to do so outside the curfew times even if this means starting your journey earlier than planned.

    · FCO advice against all travel to the city of Bangkok does not apply to passengers transiting Bangkok airport on their way by air to other destinations, either within Thailand or internationally.

    · We advise against all but essential travel to the city of Chiang Mai where a number of violent incidents, some involving gunfire, have occurred following the clearing of the Red Shirt demonstration sites in Bangkok. Red Shirt demonstrators have set up a demonstration site at the Chiang Mai railway station. British nationals already in Chiang Mai should monitor this travel advice and local media before going out during the day, and otherwise comply with the curfew in force.

  5. Klong Toey area is going to be difficult to get something like that during this time. The only advice i can think of would be to goto one of the apartment blocks in the area and ask the management office if they know someone who can deliver... i used to live around that area and i think i saw some shops down past the carrefour selling them... so maybe go look down past the tesco/carrefour area

  6. That's awesome. Are you in Bangkok? I wonder if they will do the same to Pattaya....

Yeah i am based in central Bangkok - I would imagine they will send it down to you in Pattaya, but i suspect they wont do the Cash on Delivery option there as they would have to send it via courier. I have no doubts that this company is legit - so you should be ok with the Bank Transfer option.

  7. Ive had a little play with it - OMFG its fast, faster than a Tequila shot in a Gogo bar!

The functionality looks good, but ive only played with it a little bit as im in work right now, i will be able to give a better review over the next day or so.

It seamlessly integrated with Google and face-book, it connected to the office Wifi quickly and easily - but then you would expect nothing less from today's phones.

  8. Just a quick update. I asked a Thai friend of mine to phone them to check stock and figure out the payment options. They said they have plenty in stock and they were prepared to accept a Cash On Delivery term. I ordered mine at 10:30am this morning and by 12:30 i had it in my hands.

They offer a 1 year in house warranty (Thai script based Warrenty card) and it appears to be the UK import - as its the UK based plug adapter.

Overall, very impressed with this company so far

  9. I'd pay 20k for one - i could ask one of my co-workers to pick one up in Hong Kong where it retails at $4500HKD - which is a little under 19k - so 20-21k is about right to remove the hassle.

Any ideas where i can get one from in Bangkok? Any websites/links or suggestions mate?

  10. Well i just bought a Buffalo Linkstation (4bay) - it came with a 1TB drive in it, but i bought 4x 2TB instead.. after a bit of messing around trying to get all 4 drives to work, i finally got it sorted.

I like this little box, its a proper NAS device, has a bit torrent client built into it. It seems very good so far.

Now just to copy over my 4TB of Media onto the box - which is proving to be *very* slow across the network!

The box was 10,000b, the hard drives 4800b each. Not a bad price overall.

  11. I need to upgrade my storage capacity, currently i am running 4 external (USB) drives with a combined storage capacity of 6TB, but alas these little work horses are pretty much full now and i need something a little more robust and upgradable. So i plan to decommission the smallest of hte four devices and upgrade it to something bigger, better, stronger, faster :)

So i am looking for a NAS device, as the Drobo is not available in Thailand, i was wondering if there is anything similar, or if anyone had any advice on what else to look at?

Ideally i want something that is easy to upgrade, i.e. slip in some larger HDD's when they are available, preferably without loosing all the data on the other devices!

I would like something that connects directly to the network, but i will consider something that connects to my base unit as an alternative. I dont really want to be spending silly money on a device, so some of the more 'pro' level NAS devices are too expensive for me. I would like something with Raid5, to give me some protection against HDD failures.

So does anyone have any advice or suggestions?

  12. Ok guys, lets leave the attacks out of the discussion - thanks!

Thaivisa.com is an English language forum for and about Thailand, Thai people and the events of Thailand, all are welcome to post here providing they stay within the boundaries of the forum rules. Any poster (Thai or Farang) who attacks any other poster (Thai or Farang) will be dealt with accordingly.

So lets keep the thread on topic and civil please. Thanks!

/Edit: I have removed the derogatory and off topic posts from this thread

  13. your are sure reading the wrong papers --- i cant recall ever reading that the present govt was duly elected -- they are there with the help of the army following a coup - u forget that part - and then the court banned all member of the present govt because they were taksins boys --- so if u are going to qoute facts - make sure the ones u quote are correct - and not pro yellow - sure sounds like it me and =- and the vast majority ahaaa

And if you wanna talk facts, no PM was ever elected by the people, MP's are elected by the people and then the MP's choose who will be the PM by parliamentary vote.

And just for your information, the coup ousted a caretaker PM who failed to call an election within the allotted time. They gave power back to the people and called a General Election about a year later, where PPP managed to cobble together a coalition government after failing to get a suitable majority to take power themselves. The Courts found the PPP leaders guilty of vote buying and banned them from politics, after which PTP was formed, but the Democrat party managed to get a big enough coalition together to take the government.

So maybe its you who are reading the wrong papers and need to check up on your facts :)

  14. This problem all started with a coup and perhaps it needs another now to finish it all off and stop the problems started by the first one ?

One step back and then two forward.

The ideal solution is for Abhisit to simply dissolve the House and call for new elections in a couple of months. Simple.

Is he a man leading the country from a position of strength, or is he a weakling clinging on to power ?

If he beleives the Thai people want him, then they will vote him back in will they not ? Why be scared ?

LOL - i never thought i would see the day a loyal red supporter would be calling for a coup to solve the political problems of Thailand.

Double standards, as demonstrated by all reds... Of course, its only double standards to the reds if it falls against them, if it works for them then it must be fair and ok, right?

God you guys are a joke!

  15. hmmmm if I remember correct it was the yellow shirts and Abhisits ppl which made all Airports in Thailand shut down.....let me know when I am wrong, but whats the difference in red and yellow shirt rallies yet?

Abhisit came to power after weeks of rallies in Bkk, if this is Thaistyle so be it but same rights for everybody then.

Guess we will see much more red shirts when Songkran starts

I'd go look back over some older news threads if i were you, Abhisit was very outspoken and against the Airport closure... its very well documented.

But just so you can understand it, i will spell it out for you "The Democrat Party is not the same thing as PAD" - infact PAD have since set up their own political party - New Politics Party or something like that (i'm not 100% on the name, im sure someone will correct me if i am wrong) - Not that i think PAD will get much support as a Political party.
