I've been under the distinct impression that a Bachelor's is required for K-12 schools. There may have been loopholes in the past, but they are largely closed.

In other words, no diploma, no job. No idea what these contrary opinions are based on.

Often after ten years your credits toward an incomplete degree are void.

There are not any contrary opinions regarding K-12 schools.

The execution of a will is probate, Funds and assets are frozen,  Probate is the judicial process by which a decedent's estate is valued, beneficiaries are determined, an executor in charge of estate distribution is declared, and the estate is legally transferred to the determined beneficiaries. The government checks the will, no other claims, creditors etc, issues a probate certificate and you take it to the bank and get the money.

You dont just rock up to the bank with a will in your hand.

People seem to be getting confused here. I said "No need for a lawyer to make a will". Someone else mentioned probate.

If you don't have a BA in education, then Teachers Council of Thailand will grant you only 2 years temporary teaching license, twice. That means you could teach for four years at max. If you hold a BA in education or a master degree of whatever you are granted 5 years teaching license that can be extended. Hope this helps.

You should be able to get 3 waivers, 4 if you stay at the same school and show that you are working towards the requirements for a teaching licence.

A "master degree of whatever" will not get you a teaching licence.

If the deceased is a Thai and the surviving spouse is a foreigner, then the land and property can be inherited by the surviving spouse.  In the case of a foreigner, he/she has 1 year to dispose of it.  He can sell it on the open market, or what often happens is that it's 'sold' to a trusted family member for peanuts and the surviving spouse gets to live in it until his death, hopefully.

On another point, a holographic will is legal in Thailand.  It must be written in the deceased own hand, signed and dated, and filed with the amphur.  It doesn't need witnesses or translation. (section 1657 Civil and Commercial Code).

Exactly my point about the land. The foreigner doesn't inherit it per se but rather has 1 year to get rid. He/she cannot own it.

I believe that, at least in theory, where the assets (including a house) are Sin Somros or joint marital property they would be subject to division among the legal heirs. It wouldn't make any difference that the land was in the deceased spouses name only.

In the eyes of the law it also wouldn't make any difference whether the entitled family were Thai or foreign.

Not true. Sin Somros does not give any rights to ownership to a foreigner. Even to the point that, if the Thai wife were to die first the foreign husband has no rights to the land.

If you are legally married no need for a will.If your  wife can produce a marriage certificate that is all she needs.

I was going to get a will consulted a lawyer he told do not bother.  The police will give the wife a death certificate. The police may even accompany her to the bank show marriage and death certificate and the wife gets my  money.

    Incorrect.

With many people needing to bring 800k into T/L, I'd expect there to be plenty of loans available outside of the 3 months required for yourself.

The only problem is ensuring adequate security over the loan..

For example, I'd have no problem lending 800k for 3 months at say 1%/mon with a 4MM+ condo as security.. just need to work out the details.  E.g. if the loan is defaulted, then how can the property be formally transferred without showing cash brought into the country..

I was once an interpreter in a court case where loan monies were being settled. The judge threw out the case and explained "Money lending is a job. You have not shown me a work permit. Therefore you cannot legally lend money. Case dismissed."

  8. There are a couple of points being missed here. Many taxi drivers rent their cars. They have a shift and the cars need to be back at a certain time. Refusal to pick up a customer could be for this reason. If the driver feels he cannot take the fare and get his car back in time then he must refuse or face a financial penalty when he returns the car. Also there is the "face" thing. A less knowledgeable taxi driver is unlikely to say "I don't know where that is" and is more likely to just not take the fare.

I had a good conversation with a Bangkok cabbie a while back. He actually told me that he prefers to pick up Non Thais. The reason? Seasoned Thais argue about the meter too. The thing is that in their case they DON"T want the cabbie to use the meter. They know that a pre arranged fare will be cheaper than the meter fare because of the horrendous traffic situation in Bangkok on a daily basis. So there you go. Keep insisting on the meter and waste your money.

IN CASE OF FOREIGNER RENEW THAI DRIVING LICENCE [BY YOURSELF]

    PROCEDURE

    1. 1

    4. 4
PAY THE FEE / TAKE A PHOTO AND PRINT DRIVING LICENCE
      (FEE 505 BAHT)
ADDITIONAL (CHANGE NAME OR ADDRESS CHARGE 50 BAHT)

A useful read but not much use due to the varying rules from office to office. The last time I renewed my licence I did not have to show any evidence of a visa. I had a letter of residence from the Police and not immigration or embassy. I took the colour and reaction tests. No other tests were required. I also needed a medical certificate from a doctor. As with most things official in Thailand, the best thing to do is to go to the office that you are going to use and ask them what they require.

  10. There are a few posts on here that are wide of the mark. Maybe some people don't understand that there are many small schools out there, especially outside of the large towns. These were built many, many years ago to serve the village where they were situated.

As an example, there are 2 schools within 2kms of our house, each sharing the name of the village that they serve. One has about 150 kids, from Kindergarden 1 to Primary 6. (8) grades.

The other has about 70 kids in the same grades . The facilities at both are poor.

Both of these schools have a Director and a Vice Director.

These schools could easily be merged. The money that they would save could easily pay for upgrades at one school and a school bus and a driver, although it would not be difficult for the parents to get off their bums and take the kids to school.

There are many examples of this. Many roads through the country have schools every few KMs or so
