  1. When I took my daughter to UK last year I presented both of our UK passports to the airline check in desk.

The airline asked if my daughter had a Thai passport too.

The reason given was that as I have given above.

If you want hassle free no problem travel for your girlfriend and baby the get your baby a Thai passport.

80%...in theory. But like anything in this country their rules / laws are flexible. M6 are supposed to attend until the end of the year, but only their first 5 terms will count towards entrance (That is, until the end of semester 1, M6). Many students get accepted into university as early as October, so they don't care much about their second-semester grades. It's only those students who do not get accepted early - their semester 2 grades may then get considered by universities. I think this is why attendance can be low for m6 in semester 2 (in school that don't bother to enforce attendance rules, that is). I would need to check again with the new m6 students, now that university entrance exams are much later than before.

This system has changed now. Most M6 students now need to finish term 2 before they can be assured of a place at University. The creme de la creme can be given a place using the university "quota" system.

You are correct Makro do not sell Gold, only light and dark.

Tops at my location sell all 3 versions but only single bottles.

Probably works out expensive that way, doesn't it?

    I paid 1535 baht for a case of 24 x 330ml of dark.

i.e.  If he is listed as manager he cant clean floors.

Actually not true. The responsibilities will be listed in the contract. That contact will be used to obtain the work permit. If cleaning floors is listed in the contract then the work permit holder is permitted to do so.

This has been discussed so many times!!!

If you read the actual text from the labor department just about anything can be deemed as working.

the link to the ministry of labor WORKING OF ALIEN ACT    http://www.mol.go.th/sites/default/files/downloads/pdf/WORKING_OF_ALIEN_ACT_2551_DOE.pdf

you will find the definition of work as:  "Work" means engaging in work by exerting energy or using knowledge whether or not in consideration of wages or other benefits;"

Even if you have a work permit you can only do what is listed in the work permit.   There are plenty of people doing small jobs without work permits, the chance of getting caught is slim, but can happen, especially if you piss someone off.

There is also a provision in family law that permits certain duties as part of marriage.

Maybe you could contact said lawyer and ask him about it or tell him he is wrong. I have given enough information on here for you to be able to identify him.

If you want to learn Thai go to  Bangkok or Hua Hin, if you want to learn Lao go to Issan

    That's a funny post.

Why do you think it not possible to learn Thai in Issan? The majority of Issan people speak Thai. They may communicate with their friends and family in Lao, Khmer, Gui, Thai Korat, etc but with strangers they will, initially at least, speak Thai.

There is a plethora of situations where Thai is used. I learnt to speak Thai living in a Khmer speaking area of Issan, picked up a bit of Khmer on the way too.

To be honest, the interest that the OP shows in language, I think Issan would be the perfect place to come for a couple of months.

If  were to be slightly biased I would narrow Issan down to Buriram.

Sorry, but your tiptoe approach was tried in Australia. We took vehicles from fatal accidents and photo's and video's around schools and there was a big media program with tv adds and everything but nothing worked. Then the government tripled the fines and that hit the people hard in the pocket, drivers lost their licences and lost their livelyhoods because of their stupid driving and some of the driving offenses like drink driving even carried prison sentences. That worked, it took the hardline to break through that mentality and get the people to realise that things must change and then the education and the training can start and it is accepted into the brains of the people more easily and now the Australian yearly road toll is just under 1000 and the police and government are not happy with that figure, they want it lower. Australia has an active police force that get out on the road and enforce the laws.

Puchooay, I did not forget about the corruption in the police force because if you read my post I said to sack all the traffic police and employ all new ones.

We came across many problems from parents when we visited the schools to the point that even the police asked some oif them to come and attend fatal accidents with us, one father being a smart mouth said that he we go with us, and he did, the first accident involved a young family and we handed he the mutilated body of the 3 year old baby, he quickly passed the body on and went and through up, the next accident was in another 2 hours and when we arrived he said that the car was his wife's car and he found his wife and daughter both dead in the car, he changed his attitude in respect of the road rules. It takes reality of losing money and transport and love ones to get people to change their attitudes and open their minds to accept the education and the training.

Unfortunately in Thailand the culture is a very big stumbling block that you will never break through without tough action

So sacking police and getting new ones stops corruption? You win the prize for funniest post of the year so far.

You really think police are going to be around 24/7? I've lost count of how many times I have heard " don't need a helmet or a licence or road tax if I go out now because there are no police"

Your post has also strengthened the post that you quoted which is quite funny too. The smart mouth father didn't believe until he saw the destruction.

People need to understand that although the threat of police might not be present all of the time, the safety issue is always there.

    I say no more.

There is only 1 way to stop this stupid carnage in Thailand and that is not by education and training it is by taking the unregistered cars and bikes OFF the roads, taking the unlicenced drivers and riders OFF the road, sack all the traffic police officers and then employ new traffic police and supply them with the proper vehicles that is needed for them to patrol the highways and the soi's, increase all traffic fines by 5 times what the legal traffic fines are and enforce the laws.

Once you hit the public hard in the pocket with the fines and take away their unregistered vehicles then you will have their attention then you can start the education and training programs but until you get the publics attention and they realize that they are going to lose a lot of money and their vehicles you are flogging a dead horse because dear old dad that has all his bad habits on the road will override any education and training program that is put into place for his children.

This all needs a government that has some balls to put this into place and then you watch the road carnage drop by thousands.

You are forgetting one thing. Corruption.

I believe education is the way. The public need to be told that the laws are safety measures and not legal measures. Many people flout the law in many ways and they will never stop. Maybe, just maybe, if they can be shown that by taking some small measures on the roads they don't need to mourn family members and friends at such an alarming rate they may listen.

2 more motorcyclists killed on same stretch of road last night.

The lawyer is giving bad advise.  If he does any work he can be in trouble.  Working the cash register, unloading a truck, etc.  However, the chances of getting caught is low, unless you piss someone off.  Even if you have a work permit you can only do what is listed in our work permit.  i.e.  If he is listed as manager he cant clean floors.

He was speaking from years of experience of company registration. Visa and work permit applications, etc. All in conjunction with Immigration and Labour Department. I think it would be advisable to take advice from a professional rather than a keyboard warrior.

If you read post 11, and then ask yourself can a Thai teach construction then you can answer your question yourself.

The English teachers need to have English as their first language otherwise the Thai government wouldnt even give them a job. ......lol

Not quite. Non native English speakers can and do teach here in Thailand. Loads of Filipino and African teachers here. Scandanavian too. Even met Croatian and Serbian.

If your wife sets up a business and you are seen to be supporting her, whether it be financially or by actually helping her do a few jobs, then there should not be a problem.

If you were to take a bigger part, such as fitting a home kitchen for a client, then there could be a need for a work permit.

My comment above comes from a post I saw on another social media platform. It was written by a well known and respected Lawyer in Issan.

The point was that if you are seen to be supporting your wife in her work then, within reason, there should be no problem. That is even if you are doing something that a Thai can do.

What is wrong with a motorbike traveling on the hard shoulder? I ride a 300cc motorbike and ride on the hard shoulder according to traffic and road conditions. Never mind rules and regulations, genuine common sense comes first.

If you need to watch the video when renewing your licence you will know, they actually refer to the hard shoulder as the "motorbike/cycle lane".

    Thanks for your help.

Do you have any idea about whether the private schools require a BA or any other qualifications?

It is not down to the school. You will need to get permission to teach from the Teachers' Council to teach in any school covered by OBEC.

You cannot get permission without a degree.

I CONDEMN the parents of the 10 year old boy who was driving on a motorbike without helmet.
He should never be allowed to drive such lethal weapon.
The guy that cause the accident is an absolute dirtbag to not even pay 1 second attention to the kid he just murdered.
Clearly shows that life means NOTHING in Thailand.
Lorry driver should be tested for drugs/alcohol and locked up for speeding away.

Ok. It has been said many times before buy I will say it again. The boy was not 10 years old. He was a Year 10 student.

You know the intersection? then you would also know that it is classified as a single lane road and a stop sign positioned on a single lane road means all lanes must stop. It is quite clear that you do not know your road rules.

As for me being an "ass" and "crap" I will accept those derogatory terms of indearment from a person that does not know the road rules.

    Good night

Funny. "Single lane so all lanes must stop". Fell off my chair.

I didn't use the two words you quoted. You did.
