You'll find that the place where they usually discard the bus rubbish is usually the spot where they also empty the toilet tank.

They have them bins in the village where I live also. Different colours for different materials. No one takes a blind bit of notice in them and just blindly empty their rubbish into any of them. Which doesn't surprise me as all three coloured bins get emptied onto the same truck anyway. There is no community recycling depot. It all just gets dumped.

Maybe there are no community recycling depots but the private sector seem to have it covered.

In fact I have never witnessed so much recycling anywhere else. There are regular visits from pick ups collecting;  plastic, glass, paper, cardboard amd metal. Looks to be big business.

Horrible place that has dillusions of grandeur, and very far behind the likes of Khon Kaen, Korat and Udon. Lived there for several years, and much happier since I

I must say that I have never experienced bus staff throwing rubbish out of the bus.

I do agree that some people have no respect and do drop litter.

Things do seem to be improving though. There was a delivery of rubbish bins in our village recently. The villagers are using them. The local council come around and empty them twice a week.

You can get 1 year extension of stay even with an agency 9 or 10 month contract. All it takes is for the school to authorize a work permit for 1 year and they all do that anyway, no matter how long your contract is. The contract is not a required doc for the Ministry of Labor or Immigration.

A contract is required by both immigration and Labour.

Usually a 1 year contract will be offered for these purposes by there will be a section that stipulates how many months will be paid.

I would imagine that teachers should have enough intelligence to budget for eating and paying rent for 12 months even if they are only paid for 10 or 11 months.

So True, So True       The OJ's said it right:  What they do!!"They Smile in your face., All the time they want to take your place...............they're back stabbers"    as Hairyharry says - you will never be a full part of the family, no matter what, and never will the Luk Krung   -  sorry, accept it and live  happy life.

Oh dear. Sorry for your hardship.

Are things that bad that you have to talk rubbish and generalise so much?

You haven't met me so you cannot include me in your sorry beliefs.

I've been here for over 18 years. Have a daughter. We are both accepted as full members of the family.

Shame you and others you have met have been unable to integrate. Probably their fault more, or at least as much, as their Thai families.

Last Time I flew into Buri ram was about a year ago Nok air flight - you can book a seat on a shuttle bus that completes the 'flight' to Surin so yes I would say served by one airport actually at a place called Satuk a quite a few kilometers outside Buri Ram

Flight to Surin on the Nok air schedule from Don Muang will show Buri Ram and shuttle bus

Agreed. Air Asia also fly to Buriram. The airport is in Satuk which is approx 40kms north of Buriram town.

Where did you get this info?

I went to Vietnam in June 2016, and I got a 30 day tourist visa at the Vietnamese embessy  in Bangkok.

Cost was $25 dollars for a 30 day stay and it took 3 days for visa processing.

A drop of $20 dollars from the previous $45 of 2014.

Applied on a Wednesday morning and picked up the tourist visa on Friday after 4 pm at the Vietnamese embassy here in Bangkok.

At the time all you could get in Bangkok for a Vietnam visa was a 30 day single entry tourist visa.

While in Ho Chi Minh City I picked up a Thai SETV visa for my return to Thailand from the Thai consulate in Ho Chi Minh.

I have been to Vietnam 4 times since 2012, all on Single Entry Visas from the Vietnanese embesy in Bangkok.

    I am a U.S. citizen with U.S. passport.

You went in June. The OP states a rule change in August.

can someone tell her that English is no good, its Chinese she needs to learn

they will be taking over soon.

Rubbish. One of the fastest growing industries in teaching right now is teaching English to Chinese students online.

I have classes of adult Chinese students and they all tell me that it is now time for them to learn English if they are to get ahead in their careers.

Buddy mate where ever your from get over the idea of being ripped off, you cant escape it, unless you stay hidden people will know about you, understand what its going to cost you in your own country then decide if you think the price is right...

So many farangs worry about a few bhat its ridiculous keep the buggers happy supervisor well other wise dont do anything if your on a budget pretty simple really....

Get out there and tell them yourself that if you don't like the price you will go else where.

Better than hiding behind the curtains. Now that would make you known about. Funny too.

There was always rumour about Big C and a possible location.

But I haven't seen any concrete sign so far.

I only noticed a sign for a Big C mini (funny name) somewhere at a gas station in direction to Phukieo.

Recently there were reports that Big C is cutting down expansion due to the bad economic development.

And after last visit to Big C in Khon Kaen I don't miss them too much.

Since it has been sold to CP it is going south.

    Empty shelfs, top prices.

Makro is there now for about 2 (?) years.

At Tesco there is construction work going on. Limited parking.

I assume they expand to make room for the silly undersized food section.

It has some of the most ridicolous layouts I have ever seen.

    Food section small and crowded.

    Hardware sections empty.

They hold staff group meetings there :D

    Makro were bought by CP.

    BigC sold out to ThaiBev.

"Ok pay" is the point. The pay isn't okay in Thailand, you are lucky to even break even. Most teachers I know borrow like bargirls from each other just to get through the month.

For an expat teacher who has made all of the "big" purchases, such as house and car, the pay is fine.

With things already paid for, the monthly outgoings are next to nothing. I know of teachers here that have more monthly disposable income than people working hard for a living in the west.

  11. It is indeed a co operative set up and run by teachers. Many teachers use it to borrow and invest.

When a teacher borrows the payments are taken at source from their monthly salary.

Anyone can invest if they are introduced by a teacher. The money must be invested in a Thai name.

The percentage rate mentioned is accurate.

The IO at Surin Immigration field in the my name and address crossed everything else out and had my wife sing it.:D

Sounds good. Kind of like open air karaoke.

  13. ...it is customary to bleed any amount of money possible out of a foreigner....any which way possible....

...by the way...if you haven't been following...it doesn't end well for the foreigner....

    I'm sorry about your loss.555.

  14. This sounds similar to when two Thais have been found out for having sex.

The girls family will insist on marraige. If the boy's family decline then the girls parents will, sometimes, go to the police and file a rape case.

See how serious the girls parents are. Money may need to be paid to keep the boy out of jail.

    Rape case? 555

They was together for a longer time and sure don't played Majong or something else. A rape case they can forget. Police never accept it!!! 555

If she tell him stole her virgin, him can tell the same and nothing happen.

If they are they are the same age or over 18 years nothing will happen too. No one can do something.

And not forget, Thai men have the right to butterfly. Every thai woman can tell it to you.

Sure her family want a compensation if they broke. Because she open her legs and her family lost the face in the village if they not marry.

You clearly know nothing about it.

  15. They are setting you up for a transfer of your wealth to them that is all , even if there is a fee they will tell you a much more inflated price so they can skim a hefty profit dont act interested its not your problem.

That's rather a broad statement. Unless you know the OP and his family.

  16. Things made today are of a much cheaper construction and designed to be replaced rather than repaired in many cases. That said parts, when available, are often only from importer/maker or sometimes from a shop that does repairs. Other than one firm that offers some such items, basically electronic, do not know of any multi source suppliers.

Or LG 42" TV died after a year and repair would have cost 5-6k for new screen and advised better to buy new unit (was not another).

My LG42 screen packed up too.

The electronics guy that I use informed me that LG and TCL are the same parts. He put a TCL screen in for 2k. That was 2 years ago. Still going.

You must have been very lucky as LG estimate was 5-6k to fix and independent shop said 9k for screen alone (without work). 2k sounds way too low unless shop had the screen on hand and nothing to use it for.

I didn't go to a shop as such. There is a very good electronics guy in the next village to me.

He is the one that told me a TCL screen fits straight in. Something I doubt an LG shop would tell you.
