As an aside; the old style thai driver's license used to have your address, but the new style Smart card does not. You may want to carry something (even a business card) which shows your address in thailand.

Not correct. Your address is on the reverse side of the new style licence.

The legal requirement is for the applicant to be the holder of a Non-Immigrant visa and to have a residential address confirmed by his Embassy or Immigration.

That is what I had to show when I got my car & motorbike licences at Nang Rong less than 2 weeks ago. I got the residence certificate from Chok Chai Immigration Office.

I was at Poipet on Nov 2nd with eVisa. Once you have exited Thailand, go straight to Cambodia Arrivals Passport Control & get your entry stamp. There will be an official handing out arrival cards. As already stated, no special eVisa counter. If they ask you if you are returning the same day, say no and you are going to a casino too gamble. Then cross the road to Cambodia departures and exit.

Probably better to get a free (until March I think) toursit visa in the UK and then get a single re-entry permit for 1000 baht before you travel to Laos. This is probably the easiest solution for you. You could then also apply for another free tourist visa in March in the UK which would give you 60 days initially, then apply for a 30 day extension costing 1900 baht (I think) which in total would cover your 3 month stay in May.....I'm sure the visa experts in this forum will correct me if I'm wrong.

Since this is your first time, the tout you ran into can expedite getting your passport stamped in Cambodia without you. For 500 baht or even less, as soon as you depart the Thai immigration, these locals will take you to a seating area nearby. They will fill out all your Cambodia paperwork for you. You do not even have to leave your seat, they will then take your passport and have the Cambodia visa stamped in it while you wait in the sitting area(you simply sit there waiting 10 minutes). These touts jump right to the front of the cambodian immigration line (paying some of your 500 to the cambodian immigration officials I imagine for the right to cut the whole line), they bring your passport back to you. Total time spent sitting about 10 minutes. Then you are on your way back into Thailand.

While 500 baht may seem like a scam to first timers, time is money and if you don't want to waste an hour or more the money spent having them get the cambodia stamp is well spent. Sometimes the lines there can be hours long so the 500 baht is a good investment if you want to get in and out quicker than you can do it on your own.

Hi Nio, thanks for your views. However, I personally would not be willing to engage or encourage a tout who would push in the front of the queue and p*ss off other people who were patiently waiting their turn even if it was to my advantage. I believe in fair play, and in my opinion the encouragement of these activities will only exacerbate the problem and overall will cause more hassle for lone inexperienced travellers (like myself) and those who just refuse to pay. If we all paid up, we would be back to square one.....

These are just my humble opinions and views and I would not attempt to impose them on others or to make judgement about others who engage the services of such people.

I'll be applying for an 1 year extension of stay in the last 30 days of my current permission to stay and if things go favourably, then I won't need to do a border run again.....

Doing a visa run around Songkran, really nice and hot and we are on public holidays, the gamblers are on mass, 500 Baht would be well spent instead of 5 hours dying in the heat.

I have a Multi Non O Visa. Yesterday I did my first solo visa run to Aranyaphrathet / Poipet.

I had already purchased a Cambodian e-Visa for 25 USD using the MFA online service @ 5:14 pm and received it by email the next morning @ 8:41am.You need to print 2 copies of the visa - 1 for entry and 1 for exit. This saves any visa on arrival hassle including the "is it 20 USD or 1000 baht" issue. The visa is not stapled in your passport, thus saving a full page. My g/f drove me, and we got to the border aroung 10.30 am. As soon as I got out of the car, I was approached by a tout who offered his assistance, saying that returning to Thailand the same day would cost me 500 baht to have my passport stamped. Armed with info from this forum, I knew that was b*llocks and told him to be on his way. I proceeded on the left hand side of the road through Thai immigration (no queue) to exit Thailand. I then crossed over the road to Cambodia arrivals and got an arrival card from an official who was handing them out. When asked if I was returning to Thailand the same day (I had no baggage at all) I told the officer I was going to the casinos to gamble. There was quite a queue to enter Cambodia, but after about 45 minutes I had an entry stamp in my passport no problems. I then crossed over the road to Cambodian Departures, and after waiting about 5 minutes, I was stamped out of Cambodia. I crossed back over the road to Thailand arrivals and went into passport control. The arrival cards are on the counter to the far right of the room. I Filled in an arrival card and stood in one of the 2 foreign passport queues. After about another 45 minutes, I had another permission to stay in Thailand for 90 days stamp in my passport.

All the officials I encountered on both sides of the border were pleasant and helpful.

I believe that is a normal fee for entry without visa. You have to pay for visas at Laos or Cambodia - but some ask an extra 'pocket fee' for same day return. The 10k baht show is not normally asked at any crossings presently.

I realise this thread is old but for those of you who will be travellung to Nong Ki I hope this helps.

Ignore any hotel recommendations from locals (they would never stay in these places anyway) ... The Si Prasat resort is by far the best accomodation in town and right in the heart of Nong Ki. At 450B per night (around AUD15) it is great value. Judging from the dates on the fittings it looks like the place is only a year or two old. The other two possibilities, the NK resort and the Si Leung (spelling) were both like dog boxes in comparison. We could have put a room from each of the other two in our room and still had space to spare .... not to mention the age and quality of the fittings.

I have not tried these contact details as we just rocked up into town and asked a taxi driver .. oddly enough the place was withn 100m of where we were. I will be using them when we go back in a few months. And for the record, neither I or my TGF have any association with the place other than as very satisfied customers.

One other thing was that we used a GPS unit with iGo8 software (with Thai maps) and the mapping and POIs were unbelievably accurate. Even the unpaved roads in the village were accurately rendered. Dont leave home without one but do remember to set the route calculation to allow unpaved roads.

This is my experience of opening a bank account.

I live in Nong Ki, Buriram. I went with my tgf to the local TMB to try to open an account. I have a Multiple Non Immigrant O visa.

My application was declined, because I was not on my gf's house book, so I was unable to provide proof of residency. Next stop was the Kasikorn Bank in Nang Rong. All I showed them was my passport/visa and my gf's ID card, signed a few forms and within about 30 minutes I had a savings account with book and ATM/Debit card and the necessary info to register for internet banking. After I got home, I successfully registered for internet banking. The ATM card cost 100 baht. I opened the acount with 1000 baht. Quite a painless experience really.

when the thai visa gurus come online they will tell the correct answer,but in the meantime i would think you would have to re enter the last time before the expiry date on your visa to obtain the extra 3 months,i dont think the 12 months of your visa begin on your first entry date.

Yes, thats correct. You have to re-enter before your visa expires. The 12 months begin when the visa is issued, not when it is first used.

If you look on the Issan forum you see that they're closing the office at Kap Cheong and moving to Korat. In a way by-passing Buriram. It's claimed that only 150 farang live in the Buriram Province perminently, so hence the reason to have no office in Buriram Province.

Sometime ago, I read a post that said an Immigration Office was going to open in Buriram, possibly in August. Anyone have any new info regarding this? I live in Nong Ki and it would be very handy for me.
