  1. Today I went to Chok Chai immigration to apply for my first marriage extension.

I am currently on a retirement extension which expires on Sunday.

I had to leave it till the last minute to allow the 400K baht to Season (2 months).

The documentation I had to provide was:

2 x Completed TM7 application forms with passport photos

    One copy of the following:

    Passport ID page

Tourist Visa page from 2009 + entry exit stamps

Non Immigrant O page + stamps

    Current retirement extension page

    Re-entry permit page

    Departure card

Map to the house (courtesy of Google maps)

    Marriage certificate (KorRor 3)

    Wifes ID

    Wifes Tabbien Bahn

Letter from the bank confirming balance

Bank book 1st Page and last 2 pages

3 x photos of the family. One outside the front gate showing the house number, one in front of the house and one inside the house.

The officer filled in the interview forms for us and all the questions were asked in Thai and answered by my wife.

I only had to put my mother and fathers name on one form and sign the completed forms.

The only original documents they looked at was my passport and bank book. I didn't need a copy of the marriage registration (Kor Ror 2). I paid the 1900 baht and got a receipt and an "Under Consideration" stamp in my passport and have to return on March 1st.

Took less than 30 minutes including doing a 90 day report.

  2. Thanks again mxyzptlk for the advice, as you will see from the number of my posts and my date of joining the forum I have never felt the need to ask a question before, and as I am sure the advice from other members is far better than mine, therefore not a lot of need to respond.

So it looks like a trip to Chok Chai every 90 days.

    Thanks again mxyzptlk and ThaiVisa.

PS I receive no financial reward for this post and endorsement (not even a box of Leo LOL)

    No problem.

I got my first extension even though my Non O was still valid for another 6 months, because I preferred driving to Chok Chai Immigration (round trip ~ 90km) rather than driving to Poipet (round trip ~ 340Km) to get another 90 day permitted to stay stamp.

  3. Thanks Lite Beer, it was my understanding that I needed to hold (as in valid) a Non O visa, therefore I shall apply/go to Chok Chai, as I live in Buriram, some 60 days after my last visa run. Sorry to be a pain, but another question, whilst I understand the 90 reporting rule. Can this still be done by post? As the Immigration Office is a bit of a run for an old fellow like me LOL. Most of the people I have met here still attend there every 90 days even though from what I have read on the Thai Immigration.gov web site indicates it can be done by post.

    Thanks.

Chok Chai does not accept 90 day reports by mail.

  4. No it is not correct. All the numbers have been changed and the quoted passage (shouted) is no longer valid as there is a requirement for money to be in account for the previous two or three months.

By numbers, do you mean paragraph numbers?

I was referring to the info for using the combined income & bank deposit as being correct....

  5. Totally false information.

That police order expired over two years ago and was replaced by 777/2551.

Lop/LB, I think you are being a little harsh here by stating "Totally false information".

While the police order has been superseded, the info is essentially correct isn't it?

i.e Combination of income and money in the bank to be at least 800,000 baht on the date of filing the application

    Or am I wrong?

  6. Thank you so much for the valuable information. It's all I need to know. By the way I'll apply in Korat next Thursday and a friend told me I should get the letter about 1-2 days before, cause some banks don't seem to issue it right away. The bank is an upcountry branch and they are not likely to have much experience with visa applicants. I'll tell you afterwards how it went.

I had to apply a week in advance for the letter from the Kasikorn bank in Nang Rong last year....

  7. The one element of their policy that no one seems to be focusing on is the following:

    2. The date of submitting application must be the date of departure.

So, first, this would only apply to people who are already heading outbound that SAME day on an international flight.

Second, I'd be more than a bit nervous about relying on that..not getting a re-entry permit until the final hours before an international flight...

What happens if the officer is away... What happens if you have a late night departure.... What happens if there's any kind of snafu?

Then you're stuck without a re-entry permit, and face having to leave without one or miss your international flight...

It may be a good recourse for emergencies... But I'd prefer to stay safe and get any needed re-entry permit well ahead of any international travel.

Totally agree, I would only use in an emergency. No hardship for me to get the reentry permit in advance from my local immigration office.

  8. Both Options do not require border runs.

Retirement Visa O-A is issued in your own country and has the same financial requirements as the 12 month Extension.

However the money can be in a bank in your own country and you also need a Police Check and Medical.

With the Extension the money has to be in a Thai bank and no Police check or Medical is needed.

    To Lite Beer

Are you sure there is no medical check requirement for a first time applicant, I had to have one 4 years ago?

Local requirements and rules can vary depending on the immigration office and indeed the individual immigration officer who processes your application....

  9. <SNIP>

You can use a Thai drivers licence in the UK, no need for an international. see

    here

    <END OF SNIP>

Thanks for this very useful info.

I have had full UK car license for 38 years but have not passed my motorcycle test in the UK but have a Thai motorcycle license which I now know would allow me to drive a motorbike in the UK.

  10. DLT accepts 2 different Certificate of Residence

    from your Embassy

    from Immigration

they also accept yellow housebook, or Tabien Baan for the very few farang registered in such

I am not aware of any DLT accepting greenbooks, blue books, electric bills, leases, police docs, you name it

Used a police letter last week for DL.

Sounds like each DL centre has it's own rules...I renewed both licenses @ Nang Rong last week and before we went my wife rang the centre to confirm the documentation required. They would not accept a poice letter which is what I was going to provide. They wanted a residence certificate from immigration. I was issued with new licences valid until December 2016....i.e. 6 years not 5

  11. You will have to exit Thailand to play in the casinos.

You need to enter & exit Cambodia to be able to re-enter Thailand.

You will need a tourist visa to enter Cambodia.

When you re-enter Thailand, you will get a permission to stay stamp of 60 days for a valid tourist visa or 90 days for a valid Non O, or 15 days for visa exemption if you do not have a live visa. If you currently have a single entry Thailand visa, it will be dead when you exit.

If you get a reentry permit before at immigration (cost is 1000) the underline of the above will not apply to you since your current visa/ extension of stay status will be mantained

Yes, quite correct - I forgot about that
