  1. They often get depressed when they live in Europe. I don't blame them.
  2. Isuzu MU-X is great, I had one for several years.
  3. Yeah definitely, we do it all the time in France. I was surprised by @richard_smith237's account that they do in the UK too, I though it was essentially a South-European thing. I would be interested in knowing whether Germans do it (I would think not).
  4. Yeah, I would posit that it's riskier asking them (and bringing attention to you) than saying nothing at all.
  5. "Or they would have hit the pedestrian." The pedestrian would not have crossed if the car hadn't stopped. Stopping and letting them go has a curious psychological effect where they just drop theirguard down for a few seconds, often distracted by them nodding and thanking you as they did not expect you to stop… and that's when disaster strikes. If nobody stops they just wait until the road is clear. But I agree the underlying issue is awareness-rasising and enforcement, of course.
  6. The safest way to handle a pedestrian crossing as a driver in Thailand is to slow down a lot, check the mirrors and if there are vehicles coming behind you, do not stop. If the cars in this incident had not stopped, the accident would not have happened.
  7. What I often tell people who are new to Thailand is that the rule on the road is "they do what they want to do and others adapt to it". What's amazing about that system is that it actually works most of the time…
  8. Squeeze both brakes simulateously is the way to do it. Last year, a car cut in front of me as I was slowing down before a red light, and the ABS on my PCX worked great, I went from approx. 30 km/h to a full stop almost immediately.
  9. If you had a choice between Trump and a donkey, who would you choose?
  10. Yeah, lots of people overreacting. I will worry about it when I am shown an official bill with my name on it.
  11. You certainly pay for it in France, the national security system will pay 70% and the remaining 30% is for you to pay if you don't have additional insurance. And spend a year out of the country without paying tax and you are not covered anymore. I'm no expert regarding the UK, but I know it is less generous than France. Lots of people misunderstand the way "nanny States" work, yes they will treat you first and not let you die like in Thailand, but ultimately you are footing the bill.
  12. Now let's watch them enforce it. This is definitely going to be in the top 10 most entertaining Thai political endeavours I have witnessed.
  13. I already have the non-O marriage visa, it was extended for 60 days and after that I will extend it for another 12 months, in both cases from within Thailand.
  14. Correct, BBL asked me for a residence certificate. I have had a Kasikorn account for 15 years but opened a second one last month on my single-entry non-O and got turned down at SCB. I can't speak for other banks.
  15. In some banks yes, the process is very smooth at Bangkok Bank with a single-entry, others such as SCB require the 12-month extension IME.
  16. Indeed, since the 60-day VE came into play, more options are on the cards.
  17. I got a 60-day extension and intend to do the 12-month one after that.
  18. I got a non-O single-entry 90-day marriage visa in Vientiane last April and they did not require proof of funds.
  19. I've mounted several cams in cars too, easy enough to tuck the cables in. Somehow I always figured it was trickier to do on a a motorbike, but probably not that big a deal. Or I could just ask the friendly staff at Honda to do it. Thanks a lot for the details.
  20. Does it have annoying and unsightly cables running along the length of the bike? This is the reason why I have never installed one.
