  1. Seen lots of two faced fashists? Right wing extremists? Got any pix cos I haven't seen any.

In fact the worst I've seen was the mat with Thaksin's face people are supposed to stomp on. There were not too many takers, most just quickly shuffled across, though one spat at it and another drove his motorbike across.

Not even good old effigy burning, or hanging, no coffins either.

I saw some photos in the Daily News last week of PAD supporters burning 2 coffins representing Thaksin and his wife..... :o

  2. Rumour has it the Korat mob are hitting town again soon. Just getting ready.

    post-14019-1143696855_thumb.jpg

Well I am planning a trip down with Ken in early June so look forward to seeing you then.. :o

  3. I voted for a trip to Surin.................................................don't know why though. :D

I vote to meet in Osaka, it has a secure area for ken to park his bike and one of the girls could look after his helmet.

:D Osaka sounds good to me. Considering it is almost across the street from Pasinee, I think I'll just leave the motorcycle and helmet at the Pasinee and walk on over. :D See you there????? :o

The 1st unofficial and unsponsored meeting of the Korat Expats Club took place, by chance, at Pasinee's yesterday afternoon.... :D

There was no agenda and no minutes were taken..... :D

Ken was voted Chaiperson and mpdkorat Social Secretary....... :D

Osaka was nominated as the clubhouse...... :D

Thanks to those who attended...... :D

  4. From my point of view it seems that some people are trying to run before they can walk... :D

Korat is not Pattaya and the same rules do not apply here.... :D

First organise a get together and later see if it goes further! :D !

Formalise it in the way some of you are suggesting and you will lose the interest of at least 50% of the few farang who live here............. :D

Just my 2 satangs worth..... :D

Derek. Couldn't have said it better myself. I've already "lost interest", but again, that's me. :D

Sorry I didn't make it to your birthday party yesterday, but I just got back from Pattaya. :D At any rate I hope it was a GOOD one. :o

Again I agree with Derek, the first mover here is to "have a get together" and a truer statement couldn't be made "this is not Pattaya" Most falang in Pattaya live within a close'ish area.

Korat is a massive, and many of us are spread thin and wide, what you are asking is a "State / County" I for one am just about an hour from town, and I know the same goes for Ken and Dereck.

Also the idea of Charity seems OK, but then those of us that live in small villages very often help our local schools etc. As an example I know of a local group of falangs that collected x-amount of money to buy thier local school there fisrt PC that was capable of running Win-XP. Mention no names here but a clue, he is here on this post.

This "roundtable" club idea, I just feel we need a meet and social gathering first, without this social event I truly feel this topic will take up loads of room here and still drag it heels.

So see whoever on the 29th July as the poll suggest. (location yet to be decided, but if we want that bus to Surin I need to know ASAP ) but athis stage I dont think its viable as we do not have enough people to fill a coach.

    just my 2bahts worth.

Ken - Yes it was great fun.......

Although I didn't feel too great yesterday, the result of too much birthday cheers...... :D

Hopefully you and Cheeky and a few others will be able to come over when I am next in residence.

Cheeky - As you say we are living in a large area and very few live in Korat City.

Many of us are not here full-time either. I am here approx 2 months and then back to London for a month. Next week I am taking the family to Turkey and the UK for 2 months.

So from my point of view lets see what happens on 29th of July and move on from there.

lampard10 - Sir Sponsor, I think you would be very successful with a Farang Connection 2 in our lovely city.

Ha ha ha ha losing to Fulham........ :D

  6. I suggest Stickman to take a second trip to Korat, this time not party only, so the vision doesn't get blurred too much and he doesn't see alcoholics and teachers only . . . and then maybe write about the beauty of Korat, nobody asks him to rewoke what he might have perceived wrong. But there's a lot more . . .

    Don't encourage the bugger :D

Indeed do not encourage the bugger! :o !

Does it matter what he wrote or writes in the future.

Korat is a sleepy rural town with no pretentions to greatness.

For those of us who live in Korat and its environs we should appreciate what we have! :D !

  7. At the request of a VERY Cheeky Farang I have set up this poll. :D .

    Hopefully it covers most options.

Let's see where it takes us..... :o:D

PS - I was going to edit the blink out of the Korat Park option but it seems you can't edit poll options :D

Perhaps a kindly Mod can do it for me...... :D

  8. I am happy to bring along the ice and plenty bottles of Cheers.

What's this Cheers stuff CF? :D

    I thought you were a Chang/Heineken man... :o

Wadee to you and your family BTW.

    :D

Tried that new Cheers beer Jai Dee, it is appalling tastes of violets.... :D:D

The young lady promoting it was very cute though..... :D:D

Like the idea of a trip to Surin to see Yorkie and Martin.

Hopefully the wives will like it too............ :D

  9. From 80 KM northeast of Korat using mobile phone/bluetooth/AIS. This is about as good as it gets up here. Oh well, better than what I had before which was nothing. :D

    post-171-1141692492_thumb.jpg

From 40 KM northeast of Korat using mobile phone/Data Cable/AIS.

    Your current bandwidth reading is:

    43.50kbps

which means you can download at 5.44 KB/sec. from our servers.

This is the middle reading of 3 tests. Although all 3 very quite similar.

As Ken says this is about as good as it gets....... :o

Only alternative here is satellitte and I think that may cost a little more than 500 Baht for 200 hours per month..... :D:D

  10. Thats exactly what i realize and sorry i have no statistic but the inflation how i feel is much more higher than the inflation of the public statistics. I easily cant believe it.

I built my house 2 years ago and still have contact to my architekt. Him told me the same house would cost me 3 times more today.

I know this is only a sectoral inflation but whats about oil, wages and the example boppia just brought in. :o

Thats why i am so full of worries

    shingdam

I checked the exchange rate (Thai Baht / UK Pound) when this thread started and it was 67.76.

I have checked it again and it is now 67.89. (Exchange rate source XE.com)

So no massive movements there....... :D

As for the cost of building a house trebling in 2 years.........well IMHO that is the biggest load of bullsh*t I have heard for many a year! :D !

  11. The enthusiasm is there.

    Where there a will there's a way.

Does anyone have committee experience and leadership qualities? Rules of engagement are critical if the Group is not to be highjacked.

Issan is big and some form of communication would seem important to keep "members" informed.

All this can cost money. would say a 1000bht intial membership be acceptable? Certainly a place where childen and Thai wives/girlfriends are catered for seems important.

Suggest steering committee of interested members meet in a Korat Hotel Lounge initially. Does the Sima Thani or Sri Pattana ( next to Passinee Restaurant) appeal for a July date. If six put their hands up. Its on! The more the merrier in case of "apologies"

Sorry. This is already sounding way to "formal" for me. But hey, that's just me. :D

    And me! :o !

But an Ad Hoc picnic with wives and kids sounds good. :D

Early July is good for me too...... :D

  12. I agree with Ken, one of the joys of in my case semi-retirement, is not having to commit to anything..... :o

An Expats Club sounds like it would involve commiting to regular meetings, agendas, speakers and far too much formality for me....... :D

How about an unofficial TV Piss Up in Korat?

I am sure we can find a nice venue, Pasinee's as suggested earlier is good.

If any of you are interested lets set a date....... :D

And Al Warner why did you describe yourself as a n00b? :D ?

  13. พี่ชาย ok I can be accept that. I have always wanted to be an older brother! lol :D

    ปี้ฮู้ก่ น้องจะ 33 ปี ใน 6 วัน เน้อ ..pee' hoo kor .. nong ja 33 pee nai 6 wun ner

brother , do you know i will be 33 year old in next 6 days :D

    Happy Birthday Bambi :D

It's my birthday on the 19th, I will be ** years old...... :o

  14. We changed my wife's name on her ID card, Tabien Bahn, Passport etc.

A quick and painless process in all cases.

They issued a new passport with her new name.

When we applied for her 1st UK visa the ECO asked for her original passport.

Luckily I had it with us, I am certain we would have been told to come back with it if we did not have it.

I don't know about other countries but for all you Brits make sure you take the old passport along to the embassy with you.

  15. Cool thanks for the reply thats just what i needed to know. :D

All the supermarkets have a good selection of baby supplies.

I live out in the sticks and even the local minimart has a good stock should we run low between trips to Korat.

Your baby will need vaccinations at 3 months so make sure you know before you leave home which ones are needed. They vaccinate against many tropical diseases that may not be needed in your home country.

Good luck with the new baby, he/she will change your life in ways you never imagined possible! :o:D:D !

  16. If you seppos are so clever...why cant you spell ??? :D  Colour does have a "U" in it,  :D

Color don't have no stinkin' 'u' in it and neither does 'flavor'! :D

    ...old English :D

Even my Thai dictionary spells them as colour, flavour and favour..... :burp::D

That's because Thailand was 'settled' by the Brits. If the Yanks got there first, we'd be driving on the 'right' side of the road and your Thai dictonary would not be using 'Old English'! :D

Get real Boon Mee, when did the Yanks get anywhere first! :o !

Septic spelling is like their education system.....2nd rate! :D !

Edit for typo.....so much for my British education....... :D
