  1. ... They had just left Phuket on Monday night. ...

... the “Bubble Blue” sailed on Tuesday ...

    --TNA 2005-06-08

    :D

    I noticed that too...... :o

    Very sad loss of life.

My wife and I have a tourist boat (also 20 meters) based in Koh Chang.

Our captain will not sail if he considers the weather is too dangerous.

It is his decision and he knows that it is also his responsibility.

Sure sometimes we may lose a day trip.....

but better that than to lose a life.

  2. Anyone know if you can you use the evergreen lounge at heathrow and bangkok with the evergreen deluxe / enhanced economy ticket?

    John

    Sadly you can't.

I think that Evergreen Deluxe is superb value for money....when discounted of course! :D !

Jusr received an email from WestEast Travel offering business class on the new 777s for 888 pounds uk.

Might raid the piggy bank for that offer.... :o

  3. How is Isaan fairing(sp) in the rain stakes?

    Drought over? :D

    No such luck Udon.

I am 40kms north of Korat and we have had no rain of any consequence for the last week!!! :o

A few days of heavy rain before that.

The locals seem optimistic that the rains will come as they are seeding the paddy fields. :D

  4. 2500 pound can last a year in pattaya easily.  That also includes getting drunk every 2nd day ( calculated "getting drunk"= drinking a 26 of sang som )

Impossible :o (unless your a complete and utter ponce) :D

I think he's a complete and utter ponce Dave... :D

    totster :D

    15,000 baht a month..... :D

What a lifestyle you can maintain on that!!!! :D

I live near Korat and am lucky enough not to have too many budgetary restraints, I reckon that it costs about 25,000 a week and we live very well. :D

House, new car, travel in Thailand, good healthcare when needed etc.

My biggest expense is my 6 month old son. :D

  5. ok keeping up with the latest trend :D

hahahahaha... Theytim's flying flags = the Livestrong wristbands of Thaivisa... :D:D

for Mr. BJ.... I'm confused now, because your flag IS waving??

for gburns... in your control panel, replace your "super member" phrase with the Buriram province.

sriracha john - in my control panel I can't find where it says Senior Member!!! :o

    Help..... :D .....please.

  6. I always thought Thomas Merton was the strangest, I suppose that depends on if that is his real name or not.

Do a google on Thomas Merton. :D

I did, clicked the feeling lucky tab, and got the following:

The Monk and Poet... Sounds like a Pub..

    :o

Where and how did he die?

Merton died by accidental electrocution in Bangkok, Thailand, while attending a meeting of religious leaders on 10 December 1968, just 27 years to the day after his entrance into the Abbey of Gethsemani.

    :D:D:D:D

  7. Anyone able to give me a ballpark figure for the cost of land, with some road frontage.

Location about 40 Kmtrs NE of korat in an area of low occupation, (Peoplewise).

I figured it should be between 12,000.00 Baht and 20,000.00 Baht per Rai, depending on if it floods.

Would appreciate some input from folks who have been there and done that.

    Cheers,dog

Last year I bought 33 rai for 400,000 baht. It is good quality farmland.

It is off the beaten track, access by dirt road. Does have services (water/electric), if we want them, as my brother-in-law has a house on an adjoining plot.

Similar location about 40 kms north of Korat, Tambol Samrong not far from NoneThai.

The land had been used as security for a loan that the owner could not pay back. It was offered for sale by the court in Korat. The price was set by the court and the whole process was quick and painless. We have just been told of another plot that has come available in the same way and are off to see it later today.

  8. jockie no worries matey all will be found including moi!!!!

So you'll be there then brit? Me , you, LC, Kreon, Oxfordwill, BahtAndSold, and who else? I know a few of these. Oh! Well they sell booze. So we will be ok.

I will be there too. :D

Never (knowingly) met any TV members but this coincides nicely with a planned trip to BKK.....look forward to meeting you all.

I was hoping Big Spuds would still be in LOS but I see he is back in Brum with Mrs BS............. :o

  9. Tell me what your mental picture is and I'll let you know whether you are correct.

Well Boris, your manner and your nickname suggest to me that you could very well look like the semi-famous Conservative MP, Boris Johnson. Of course, I am not trying to imply that you are an upper class twit like Boris Johnson is of course...... :D:o

    Boris_cake.jpg

Strange that samran, that is exactly the image I have of Boris! :D

  10. Of course they didn't colonize it in a literal sense but really, what's the difference?  The Chinese rule Thailand--the indigenous Thais gave their country away to them..... literally!

What? Are you telling me that Thaksin and all his parliamentary colleagues are Chinese. :D

    Surely not...............:o

    Are you Chinese Papaya9???

  11. At least we have it a lot easier than a Thai wanting to visit our countries for a holiday or protracted stay with their falang husbands.

I definitly don't agree with this statement, I have got a number of my employees visas for the USA, all they brought in was a letter from me (company letter), some bank account information, and a house registration.

The interview only lasted 5 minutes.

They all walked out with 10 year multiple entry visas for the grand price of 4000 baht.

I run a legitimate business in Thailand and when I went in to get the 1 year extension, I had to bring in so many documents that the stack of papers was 6 cm thick. Then they denied my application because of one small error on one document.

In Thailand as far as visas go, we are all treated like tattoo riden, bar girls trying to get Western visas.

Three year visa will help, but for me I will never try and get an extension for the 90 days.

On principal I would rather fly some where for the weekend, spending my tourist dollars in another SE Asian country, and not paying the re-entry permit to immigration.

    That is absolute cr*p!!!

My tattoo riden BG was treated very respectfully!!! :o

I have never had a problem extending my Non-Imm O visa and I am always treated with respect and corteousy by the Immigration department. :D

  12. Try Skype its free !

    Thanks Custard,

But she is in her home Village (Chaiyaphum) where they haven't even heard of sliced bread yet never mind the internet!!

    Mr BJ

Try telesavers, telediscount and alphaeasy. All cheaper than 8p a min.

Telesavers is 3p to a Thai mobile but not always available due to high demand.

Do a google on "cheap calls UK Thailand"......... :D

Oops I see Rinrada beat me to it whilst I was posting.... :o

  13. Boy, this is a major case of cultural misunderstanding.

Conversation wise, for a Thai to comment directly on someone’s weight is the equivalent of talking about the weather. My Thai friends and relatives have no problem in telling me if I have gained/lost weight. It’s only an observation, and not meant to be offensive.

Remember, Thai’s a big time into Kreng Jai, and keeping up appearances. They won’t admit that prostitution is rife, that Thaksin’s and idiot or anything else what would mean that someone would lose face. As such, you should recognise that commenting on weight is not meant to be offensive, and hence, shouldn’t be taken as such.

Could not have put it better Samran!! :o

The other day I stopped to say hello to the mother in law of an Aussie mate who lives nearby.

I have lost a little weight since she last saw me and she said.......

...now you only as fat as Rob (her son in law!!!).

No insult to either of us just the truth..... :D

  14. Yep;

my wife ran around turning it all off - "Taksin wants us to turn off the lights"

Sort of reminded me of an "agraian utpoian" existance. - Shun Technology and go back to the stone age - remind you of anyone ?

My wife did and said pretty much the same...

And then switched the channel so we could watch Thaksin address the nation from a room full of fully light chandeliers :o
