  1. Wasn't it the philospher Will Durant who said,

" nothing is a good thing to do "

I cant think of a better place to do nothing.... than in Isaan.

Me neither, I am so busy doing nothing in Isaan that I rarely have time to do anything else! :D

Since my son was born last December my desire to continue doing nothing has increased ten-fold...........I just love spending my days with him! :D

Sadly every couple of months I still have to return to the UK for a month or so to pay for this "do nothing" lifestyle. :o

I just love my life in rural Isaan! :D !

  2. I guess I can pop in for one????????

Is everybody aware of the price range?

    Tell em DJ

    Bt.160 for a Heineken?

    Bt.180 for a lady drink?

Still if it gets too expensive there's always the Plaza just up the road with 30 bars and planty of atmosphere.

    T.

i'm working on a happy -beer @ bt.80- hour from 5-9 pm, but with only 15 members so far :D

maybe dj pat can push them a bit more :D

So what time are we planning to start then? :D

I am glad Toddy has agreed to let us use his beard as a focal point...... :D

Otherwise it would be hunt the falang in fake brand name clothing as moebius says..... :o

  3. For someone to get a British Passport they need a Professional person, eg Doctor , Lawyer, Banker etc, to sign one photo and the relevent part of the Passport application form saying that "I certify that this is a true likeness of ...."

In the case of a child, it is normal to give the form and photo to the child's Doctor.

    Hope this helps

    Hi Toddy

The British Embassy were very understanding when I applied for my son's passport in March this year.

They said a nurse, bank clerk, amphur employee, village head etc. would be fine.

We got the nurse from the local village hospital to sign. She wasn't contacted by the embassy.

Very important and quite difficult to do with a newborn is to make sure the baby is dead centre of the photo, head and shoulders only and no hands of whoever is holding him whilst the photo is taken.

Embassy rejected the 2 sets I had taken, we had to go away and do them again!!!!! :o

PS - Look forward to meeting you on the 10th at Titanium. :D

  4. You are nothing less than a violent thug Mr Klockmann.!!! :D

And it seems one who is proud of it!!

    W*nk*r :o

I am not a violent thug. I am a very nice, kind and, careing individual. However, certain things do, and have, pushed me to do things. I am very civilized and a loyal friend to those that are close to me.

Well in this thread you certainly post like one!!!! :D

My apologies to the nice, kind and caring side of you. :D

  5. When I eventually leave the big city and move out to the more rural areas I'm getting mongooses, dogs and whatever else I need to keep away snakes based on your experiences! :D

King cobras in the toilet, you just dont need that with a morning changover do you. :D

Many years ago I lived in Sri Lanka and a local friend gave me a mongoose as he said there were many snakes around my house.

Have to say that the only time I ever saw snakes around the house was when the mongoose decided to drop off half dead ones to show what a good job he was doing. :D:D

    He had to go!!!! :o

  6. That is not what I am saying at all.
the guy deserves a good beatin :D

Does antagonizing those in pain still count as you being an innocent bystandard, or an antagonizer?

Yes, if you antagonize me while I am in pain (as result of a situation such as this), you will feel that of much far greater then I am. That is what I am saying.

You are nothing less than a violent thug Mr Klockmann.!!! :D

And it seems one who is proud of it!!

    W*nk*r :o

  7. George W. Bush is also an alcoholic who took the "12 Steps" and look where he is now. :o

You see there is always the one that AA cannot help. :D

To the OP you clearly have had enough of your husband and are ready to go home.

Be aware that confronting an alcoholic will probably not give you the response you need. He will lie, tell you he will change etc. and then very soon it will be back to how it is now.

If you want to save your marriage get him to go to AA. Not sure if Denmark has Al-Anon but they are there for you and can help you understand his problems.

    Chok Dee.

  8. I do not understand how anyone can be stupid enough to try to smuggle drugs in or out of Thailand.

Then when imprisoned cry foul at the sentence.

It has long been public knowledge that DRUGS = DEATH in many SE Asian countries!!

Yes I understand that desperation leads people to do stupid things but............. :o

If you don't understand, then maybe you need to watch the documentary a second time and listen to what the inmates had to say this time. Harsh drug sentences should only be handed down in certain circumstances. For example, clearly marijuana and ecstacy pose far less a threat than heroin and ya ba. But the authorities are always ###### bent on punishment. I have a friend in the states who was caught with 4kg of marijuana at the same age as this poor Australian girl now about to do 20 years in Indonesia. He was fined, and spent weekends in jail for 6 months. That put a good scare into him. He now works for a government agency in Washington DC, a good productive member of society. God forbid he had commited the same crime in SE Asia. Years behind bars for what?

ChiangMaiThai you miss my point and it seems what the inmates said!

My point is why Thailand or Indonesia where the sentences are beyond belief harsh!

And the bearded guy with the 50 years after pleading guilty was smuggling 4+ ks of heroin!

I do not agree with such sentences, I am merely saying they must have known the penalties before undertaking their venture!

I am very happy your friend got off so lightly but he most certainly would be doing at least 5 years if he was caught with the same amount in the US today. :D

  9. How will I recognize anyone?

Is OK, just wander around Sukhumvit asking for the TV's bar, sure someone will point us in the right direction :D

Seriousley though, perhaps a couple of the TV regulars / Pissup organisers can let the bar staff know where they're sitting, then we can just ask them.

    ace

I think we should make Toddy and his long ginger beard the focal point, surely very difficult not to find him!!! :D:D:o

  10. "You wouldn't marry a hooker in your own country, so why do it in Thailand...?"

Thank you, I'll be here all week! Please leave tips at the door!

That old chesnut , how about

"You wouldn't s h a g a hooker in your own country, so why do it in Thailand...?"

I'm sure most on this board could answer that one , including you... :o

Well someone must s h a g hookers in their own counrty or there wouldn't be any.......... :D

  11. This programme was shown about 6 months ago on BBC World. Having watched it then and also read the book "Damage Done" a few times, I will NEVER do anything wrong in Thailand

I am sure I won't either but does anyone know the aquittal rate here?

I bet not that many are found not guilty.

    I bet there aren't too!!!

  12. Have to agree with you on that one.  I also live in  a small village and will be moving to an even smaller one when I finish the house.  I really enjoy it.  I get to the big smoke every now and then but I really enjoy being back in the sticks where life is a bit slower and quieter.

I think enjoying living in rural Isaan is "Up To You".

Before committing yourself to it longterm I think you must make several visits at different times of year to make sure it's what you like. Don't be forced by your GFs demands of it's here or nowhere.

I for one love it!!! :D

For me the two greatest things are....

the freedom that the kids have to just wander off and play. I'm from England where sadly that is just not possible anymore.

and the fact that my wife is surrounded by her family and with her mum. And of course we all know that a Thai girl and her mum should never be parted!!! :D

Mind you if your wife's/GF's family are not good people you may have BIG BIG problems. Luckily for me my in-laws are great and want nothing from me other than I keep my wife happy! :o

I think it's a wonderful place to live.

  13. Hi Toddy,

I'm working on the assumption that you were born in the UK before 1.1.83.

If this is the case, and you are married to the mother, which I presume you are because you describe her as your wife, then, yes, your son will be automatically entitled to British citizenship, although any children which he fathers in due course would not be British if born outside of the UK. The embassy has a good link which details the requirements and procedures. Here it is.

    Cheers,

    Scouse.

    Hi Scouse

Again congrats on the most amazing performance by the 'Pool. :o

You helped with advice on registering my sons birth etc last December and all went very smoothly.

From your post above am I right in assuming that any children he has will have to be born in the UK to be British?

If he marries a Thai which as he will be raised and educated here is very probable he will have to apply for a visa for his then wife to go to the UK to have the baby, is that correct.

I know that that is 20 years in the future and things change but as of today do the British embassy issue visas under such circumstances??

    Thanks in advance.

  14. I know this is not really within topic but I just hope its allowed to stand for a while.

In recognition of all his efforts to help a great number of people on this board may I be the first to congratulate 'THE SCOUSER' and his beloved team.

    CHAMPIONS LEAGUE WINNERS 2005.

Anyone out there to second that

    Absolutely!!!!

Congrats to THE SCOUSER and all his fellow scousers.

    A fantastic performance. :o

  15. Does anybody know what Thai law says about a foreigner owning a boat?

Anybody have any experience or advice?

Do you want to own the boat for private or commercial use?

My wife has a company that owns a 20 Metre Cruiser used for tourism on Koh Chang so know about commercial use but not private use.

  16. May I ask how the UNSW is going to validate that the responses to that survey are in fact genuine?

Jai Dee, I own a Data Processing company in London that works for several major Market Research companies.

I can assure you that very little validation is or can be done on people's responses to questions.

How do you validate a respondents answers???

We do a lot of work with doctors and I am sure they intend their responses to be accurate. Many times they are asked the same question (worded slightly differently) twice in a survey and give different answers!!!! :D

Having looked at the survey it is really just opinions and no doubt will be weighted to the Farang population of Thailand. :o

  17. For Spudsie and anyone else in the UK worried that their newly-arrived partner might miss Thai food, movies, etc, my missus found a brochure for this at the local Thai takeaway today-

    http://www.talardthai.com/index.asp#

So how's it going, Spudsie? Bought the ticket yet?   :D

I agree with johnq, prices are astronomical!!!! :D

    6.20 a kilo for cucumber!!!! :o

    29.99 for DVDs!!! :D

Don't know where you live Trebilcock but if its London there are many small Thai supermarkets that offer the same at much much lower prices.

Yes, BS when do we see the photos of you and Mrs BS outside the Bullring?!? :D

  18. Congratulations on the stork arriving...

Make sure you have someone in mind to counter-sign the photos.

I live here and i'm darned if I can think of anyone reputable I know locally !

Anyone here a MP or Minister of Religion ?!

The British Embassy were sympathetic to this point and told me that a nurse or bank clerk (both Thai) both of whom I had known for just over 2 years would be fine.

The most important thing is you must be on the child's Thai birth certificate and must have a notarised english transalation of this.

Other documents you need are your full birth certificate, your marriage certificate, divorce certificate (from previous marriage) if applicable, both your and your wife's passport and the child's Thai passport if they have one..

Congrats Toddy, I too have a new son nearly 6 months old now, it's great!! :o
