Time for a "newer model" perhaps?
spidermike007 replied to swissie's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
And we certainly both know what an incredibly good fortune it is in life to find a partner of the caliber that we have found. I would guess there are a relatively low percentage on the planet that are blessed to experience something like that. -
Fertility crisis set to halve Thailand’s population in six decades
spidermike007 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
That goes right to the heart of the point that I'm making, we do live in a different time and we do have a choice now, and a lot of people are simply choosing not to reproduce, as shown by the statistical numbers. w Which in my opinion is a very positive thing for mankind, we don't need the population to keep growing, and we don't need the economies to keep growing. That is silly IMF and World Bank nonsense. If the population diminishes the economy can diminish with barely any loss of jobs. -
Fertility crisis set to halve Thailand’s population in six decades

The article is poorly written and highly misleading. A fertility crisis suggests that a lowering of fertility rates is the primary issue. That is not the case, couples deciding to have less children is not an issue of fertility, it's simply an issue of common sense and reason. I would not want to be a child brought into the world at this time. Some of us think having a child right now is bordering on being cruel. Too much instability in the world and too much craziness, not a good time to be having a kid. -
Foreign Tourist Attacked by Hostile Youngsters in Pattaya

I could not possibly disagree more with virtually everything you said. Number one America is a nation that was founded upon violence, it has always been violent, and it will always be violent. 500 plus mass shootings so far this year, what do you call that? And number two the violence perpetrated upon foreigners in Thailand is very minimal. Yes there is a lot of violence in Thailand, but it's primarily Thai on Thai, which doesn't concern us very much. So continue with the panic mongering all you want, most of us are not buying into it. -

Good on you. Many men do not seem to understand the concept of setting boundaries and standards. Life is way too short to put up with more than a tad of nonsense from a woman. -
Fertility crisis set to halve Thailand’s population in six decades
spidermike007 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
In my opinion the single largest issue that the world faces is overpopulation, the quality of life is declining for every single person on earth as a result of it. A shrinking population is the single most wonderful thing that could possibly happen to this planet. So if the collective consciousness is of the opinion that overpopulation is a problem, that's completely correct. And besides, babies are over rated. -

We have been together for a long time. And that's exactly the way I wanted it to be. if something happens to me I want her to have financial security, she deserves that. She has given me the best years of her life, and nothing but kindness and loyalty, and I want her to have a comfortable life. Not all of us are cynics. -
That's "supposed" clean up took place after an award-winning documentary film came out and the director of the film nearly won a Nobel Peace Prize. Ghost Fleet is a must watch for anyone interested in this tragic issue. As was always the case with the Biggest joke, it was far more show than substance, and led to few convictions. The problems continue to this day, and Thailand still has a an enormous human trafficking and slavery problem, that likely includes officers at the highest level in the army and ministers within the government, who profit greatly from the industry. It's extremely difficult to get solid numbers on it, because it's a black market. The Thai government says this is all in the past, but that is belied by the fact that there are rescues going on all the time. The government is taking admirable steps in the right direction in terms of putting more boots on boats, but they lag way behind in prosecuting captains or owners. And while Thailand is not alone — there are certainly incidents on boats ranging from South Korea to Scotland — Thailand still leads the pack in terms of the scale of this problem. https://www.npr.org/sections/thesalt/2019/07/15/741138111/this-fearless-woman-is-fighting-to-keep-slavery-out-of-your-seafood

Fertility crisis set to halve Thailand’s population in six decades

This article is very misleading. There may be a crisis but it does not appear to be a fertility crisis, it appears to be a desire amongst many to simply reproduce less. The quality of life is declining for many, the ability to earn money is difficult, and people are just simply coming to their senses and not having kids as much as they used to. It's a very, very difficult time to bring kids into this world, and there are a lot of level-headed people that are either deciding not to do it at all, or deciding to just go with one kid. This is happening in many, many countries of the world, except in Africa, where the ancient ways continue. 21 of the 22 nations with the highest birth rates are there. Woe is Africa. -
BREAKING NEWS US tourist brutally stabbed to death in Phuket hotel

Stabbing is a very rare form of suicide. The chances of survival are far too high. -

Please. As if they are so innocent and harmless in your native country? In the US, my countrymen adore violence. This kind of thing is rare here. Get over yourself. -

There is definitely part of my lower nature that considers this notion from time to time, but I have so many years invested in the relationship, we have so much history together, she's such an outstanding woman on so many levels, she always has my back, and she just seems to get better with age. We get along great, she still has a fantastic sense of humor, she still looks good, and I'm never going to be able to upgrade from where I'm currently at. So, I guess the moral to this story is sometimes we just simply have to practice contentment.- 49 replies

I replaced my 8 year-old MacBook Pro with the new M1 MacBook Pro 16 inch and it's fantastic. I also just recently replaced my 27-in Mac desktop with the M2 Studio and a 42 inch LG C2 Oled as a display. Also fantastic, so my suggestion is if you can afford it, go for it. Computer wise, they are as it gets. Though I am obviously an Apple fan, I do use a Samsung S22 Ultra, as I feel it's a much better phone than the iPhone. On countless levels.

Srettha Slammed For Literally Bowing To Paetongtarn
spidermike007 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Yes. I think the late 19th and early 20th century expression "robber barons" applies, with regard to the army. You would think they would have had enough after 9 long years of gorging at the trough. Gluttons, one and all. -

Believe me, I would have given up everything I was doing and joined the feeble, small protests, if it weren't for the small permanent deportation issue. -
What Thailand desperately needs is to establish a way to transport cargo in a more efficient manner, than the hundreds of thousands of trucks that are clogging the highways on a daily basis. Building a high-speed rail line north to south that could handle passengers and cargo would be a good idea. The land bridge is not going to be something that would be used that much, there are far better things they could spend a trillion baht on.

The third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation. In other words take our money and forever be in our debt, and show us the kind of fealty that we deserve, because we are rulers of the world. Xi is a despot dictator and becoming more dependent on China is an enormous mistake. Sretta is showing us day by day, why he was the wrong choice as a leader.

In much of the world they have a very mysterious thing called a deterrent, it is virtually unknown in Thailand. When a taxi driver who assaults a tourist is fined 2,000 baht, that is an admission of a completely broken and totally ineffective judicial system. Every single judge in Thailand should just quit, and admit that they have failed miserably.

While the deaths are certainly tragic, especially those not involved, this kind of behavior is beyond the pale. I think perhaps there comes a time and a place where the parents need to be punished for the behavior of their offspring, which they did not bother to impart any valuable lessons to during their upbringing.

I don't think anybody is going to lose any sleep over this incident, and over this permanent deportation. There's never a situation that calls for violence against the police or immigration. We might be frustrated with them from time to time, and I have verbally aunosed both in the past. But a physical attack? That's right out of a Bollywood, goombah film, that's not a reality here in Thailand that we're accustomed to. See ya! You won't be missed.

Srettha Slammed For Literally Bowing To Paetongtarn
spidermike007 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
This seems incredibly hypocritical, everybody knows that he's Thaksins lap dog, everybody knows that he's completely sold out, so why make a big deal about him making a demonstration of that in public? What's the big deal, can't handle truth, can't handle reality when millions of Thai people should have been out in the streets protesting the stealing of the election, another absolute takeover by the army, again after nine horrific years. Instead you're sitting on your comfortable couches complaining about something that you perceive as an injustice. Really?- 86 replies
