I agree. I just don't see the wisdom in joining this so called coalition. Wouldn't it be like giving up on the mission?

Middle Eastern Tourists Pose Policing Challenges in Pattaya

That would be proactive and would be law enforcement. Don't see too much of that here, as it relates to traffic. The roadblocks accomplish nothing. -
Darwin theorized that some species and some members of those species were more fit for survival than others. The theory of natural selection, means we all have to exhibit certain survival skills, to thrive in this world. Self protection is just one of those skills. Some have it, some do not. Those who do not have it, tend to suffer more.

PT is certainly a step up from the TAP (Toxic army party). But it is still a stolen election, essentially. And the proxy senators still deserve to be shamed and humiliated.

Blast from the Past - 60's, 70's, 80's,90's Music (2023)
spidermike007 replied to CharlieH's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
I have been using YouTube music. Doing tons of searches. I am finding some good Latin, and Japanese hip hop. A few others, here and there. Agree about the radio. Only listen to some alternative radio, when in LA. Never here. There is some good music out there. Just not the golden age of music, LOL. -

Agree. In terms of more recent Westerns, Unforgiven, Josey Wales, Pale Rider, Buster Scruggs, 3:10 to Yuma, The Salvation, Appaloosa, Django Unchained, True Grit, The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada, and Open Range were all amazing. -

It does look tedious. Is it possible Elba needs a new agent? Such talent, and so many poor choices. Extraction II, Luther: The fallen sun, Beast, Thor, Three thousand years of longing. Huh? Are those his choices? Is it about the money? -

Having said all that, 1883 was incredible. But it was dense, very intense, very tragic, and took me about 6 weeks to get through, as I had to take a few breaks from the gravity of it all! Sheridan sure knows how to pour it on, and manipulate the viewer. -

Shantaram. Based on the internationally bestselling novel by Gregory David Roberts, Shantaram follows a fugitive named Lin Ford (Charlie Hunnam) looking to get lost in vibrant and chaotic 1980s Bombay. Alone in an unfamiliar city, Lin struggles to avoid the trouble he’s running from in this new place. After falling for an enigmatic and intriguing woman named Karla, Lin must choose between freedom or love and the complications that come with it. The story takes place largely within the slums of Bombay. I have been there. Bombay is an extraordinarly city, and those slums are some of the world's largest. Great story, based on a fabulous novel. -

Youth, with Michael Caine, Harvey Kietel and Paul Dano. It is a masterpiece. Brilliant writing, direction, acting, and soundtrack. Watched it several times. Directed by the Italian genius, Paolo Sorrentino. The Great Beauty is another of his great films. A bit on the surreal side. Pure genius. -

Tulsa King was good. Stallone is such a unique and singular guy. Hard not to like him. I am so sick of the Taylor Sheridan dramas. Always far too much tragedy and melodrama. Enough of it. Yellowstone was great, up to a point. The last season was ridiculous. 1923 was so over the top. Endless tragedy. Finished Mayor of Kingstown. 1st season was great. 2nd was beyond the pale. Wind RIver was a masterpiece. I watch it annually, it is that good. I think I may have overdosed on the tragedy king, Mr. Sheridan. I am done with him. -
What Books are you Reading (2023)

Eisler's best work is the John Rain series. Truly one of the most memorable characters in the genre, ever. Most are very forgettable for me. Tried Havrath. Decent action, if a bit much at times. Just not alot of character, depth, or ability to create ambiance, or flesh out a setting. That is part of what sets Eisler apart, and makes him the top writer in the espionage, assassin, special ops game. Tom Wood is decent. His character Victor is entertaining. Again, he cannot create a time and place like Eisler, nor background, nor history. But, he is talented and those Victor books are worthy. Will check out DeMille. And Cain. Carver sounds like an interesting character. Thanks. -

I tried listening to Phosphorescent. Not bad. But, not particularly deep, in my opinion. Sad and moody. I will give him that. Kind of a Joe Henry, without the lyrical depth or musical acumen. Or Iron and Wine, but with alot of melodramatic affectation. Quite decent. But, I am looking for exceptional. Faithless comes to mind. Crack family is very good, as well as Rhymeister, Bush, La Etnnia, and some others. There is some good music out there, but this is NOT a golden era for music. -
Milk is not particularly healthy anyway. Plenty of good quality alternative milks out there. Oat, rice, almond, coconut, etc. Some of them are very tasty. Why fight a shortage, and add to it? Not available? Ok, I do not need it.

1. No doubt the bouncers over reacted. That is common. Their job is to keep people in line, not beat the crap out of customers. 2. If the Brits had behaved with some respect, it is likely this never would have happened. Though they did not behave well, the bouncers were likely provoked. 3. There is at least a small chance these guys went into a clip joint, where the bill was padded, and an argument resulted over that. In that instance, the bouncers are expected to offer a beat down.

Would you ever marry a bar girl? If so, why?
spidermike007 replied to bob smith's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Well, we can agree to disagree with nearly everything you said. Except the part about human slavery. And, I don't know what hiring a freelancer or bar girl has to do with child trafficking. You are getting yourself very worked up over what seems to be a very sensitive subject for you. Your presumption about people who don't care for others is astounding. Millions of men have affairs, and care deeply for their wives and families. This is simply a point you are hung up on. The degree of judgments you are making about this is a non starter. It eliminates the ability to have a dialogue. And for that reason, I am over and out. Prefer to discuss things with open minded souls. See ya. -

"The breakdown of a family leads to every problem we have on earth caused by humans". Really? It causes global warming? It causes war? It causes dumping of waste into the sea? It causes human trafficking? The level to which you are preaching and simplifying is quite something to witness. This is obviously a sensitive area. Glad you are living the perfect marriage. -
I agree. In an ideal world. Driving a taxi has to be a tough job. Especially in Bangkok. Riding in traffic all day. I think it would make me much worse than grouchy. Much, much worse. I find alot of taxi drivers to be friendly. But, I tend to go out of my way to engage them. I think they enjoy it. Likely breaks up the routine for them. I like to joke with them, and see if I can get them to laugh.

Well, one could argue your description of low standards, was quite a value judgment. No offense taken. It takes alot more than that for me to take offense. But, I think that is a knock on both the women and my choices in life. One could argue that by hiring women, we are protecting our loved ones. It has been done throughout the course of history. Infinitely more discreet than a mistress. -

Precisely. Now you understand me. Zero guilt or shame. I treat my woman like a princess. But, after many years the sex is marginal. Yes, I might be damaged. Ha! But, that is on me. Judge me all you want. Means less than zero. -
I try to clear out the clutter from time to time. But, I will never qualify as a minimalist. I love the luxuries too much. An over the top home theater, with 7 high end speakers, a great amp, and a 77 inch OLED likely does not qualify as minimal. But, I love my movies. Same with wine. A nice cooler stocked with decent wine. Call me what you want. Who cares?

Helps if you get away from the tourist spots, where some of the locals are jaded. A light heart, a sense of humor, and a good attitude help too.

Opinion 78 years later, Hiroshima still stands as warning to the world
spidermike007 replied to Social Media's topic in World News
As was suggested in the Oppenheimer biopic they could have dropped a bomb on Tokyo Harbor just to demonstrate the power of the thing, and that might have been enough, but I seriously doubt it. The Japanese were so entrenched at that point and so dogmatic about their the war effort that I really do think it required a Hiroshima to stop them, as horrible as it was. Let us hope we never see another one of these dropped. As KhunLA said, it would be one way to reducing the population. I favor some sort of forced sterilization on the 22 nations with the out of control birth rates. Or some sort of reform (as 21 of those nations are Muslim).
