  1. Guys, I'm counting off possible/probables now and considering whether to save some the trouble of travelling by cancelling this week... what do you think?

I'm not 100% better yet, but do feel improved since yesterday. Would probably be playin it safe & stayin home today normally, but it looks like each man will be precious, so, I'll come... unless, we decide to cancel...?

    List of confirmed/possibles:

    -Damaja

    -AngusTan

    -Richard_Smith237

    -Vid1

    -Beejoir

    -Marui

    -Steppenwolf108 (maybe)

    -FlaxxChris (maybe)

Really need 2 more at least...

  2. Hey guys, is the game on only on Sukhumvit 71 or Sathorn/Silom are happening as well?

I live in Sathorn, so it'd be nice to have the chance to play in this area....if not, then will be heading for Suk 71 today or next time...

    Hi

Currently we are only playing at the Arsenal place on Sukh. 71. Main reasons being the rain (the Sathorn place isn't covered and is a hard court so deadly when wet) and generally now a preference for playing on the larger, astro-turf pitches they have at the Arsenal place.

You'll be very welcome to join today, or any time.

Frankly though, your participation or not today may tip the balance as to whether we are able to play or not. :whistling:

  3. I will be there. See u guys there.

By the way, who n how i should look out for?

    Thanks & Regards

Well, if I'm there I'm quite easy to spot - tall (6ft 3), white, balding with bit of a beard - bit like Zidane, especially if you see me playing ;):D

Otherwise, just look for a pretty mixed bunch of European/Asian foreigners and misfits (and the odd Thai or two when we're lucky)

We're usually booked on the pitch at the far end when you walk in the place - no. 5, I think.

  4. Hi all,

Sorry been off the forum for a few days - have a nasty bit of cold/flu and busy otherwise.

Cheers Matt for responses and welcome to Marui, as we are definitely in need of some more players at the moment!

Not sure if I'll be able to play tomorrow as still got cold/flu, but the booking still stands as usual:

    When: Sunday 17th October

    Time: ** 4pm - 6pm **

    at: Arsenal Soccer School,

17/1 Soi Pridi Banomyong 21, Sukhumvit 71 Rd., Phrakhanong, Bangkok 10110

    Telephone: 02-711-1221

    Cost: 1500 bht /hr (200 - 300 bht each)

I feel bad about not coming when we've been struggling with low turnouts last few weeks, so I'll make every effort to get better enough by tomorrow to come.

If I'm not able to though, naturally one of our regular stalwarts, Angus/Chris/Matt, can take care of booking payment etc.

As always, it'd be good if you get a chance to post a reply here on the ThaiVisa forum whether u can/can't make it:

Cheers, & maybe see u tomorrow.

  5. Alreet, here's the last minute reminder/confirmation/prompt for footy tomorrow:

Last Sunday was very nearly a wash-out, with a very disappointing turn-out of only 8 players at kick-off time (rising to 9 half an hour later with 1 late arrival)!

Initial attempts to pull in any 'loiterers' that might want to play proved fruitless. It was only due to some fortuitous quick thinking and a bit of negotiation that we managed to get a game going, after asking a group of Japanese players on the next pitch (who also looked like they were a bit short of players with 9 also), if we could join up with them and play a game against each other.

There was clearly a bit of intrepidation from some of our lot at the prospect of probably being thrashed, by what looked like a pretty skilful and well-organised team - after watching the Japs doing their pretty serious-looking and skilful drills as they warmed up for 20 mins. Even a couple of our guys (no names necessary ;) started edging off the pitch and voicing a 'preference' to just leave the Japanese guys to it and try to play only amongst ourselves (which I can guarantee 100% would have been crap on that pitch with only 4 vs. 4). BUT, after a bit of ribbing and all-round 'encouragement' - as, let's face it, we had nothing to lose - we got started and actually made a pretty good game of it I reckon.

For the first half hour we held a bloody good defensive 'line' against some very tidy passing and quick play from the Japanese side. When we had a half-time break, I think pretty much all of us felt pretty surprised and chuffed on the whole at how well we were playing and though behind by a few goals, we'd given a pretty good account of ourselves. The 2nd 'half', the tiredness started to catch up a bit, but credit to all for giving 100% still and we ended the game having threatened quite well and deservedly had the respect of the other team as we shook their hands to thank them for what had turned out to be a pretty competitive but very fair and friendly game.

I couldn't remember what the final score was, but at a guess it was maybe something like 15-10 to the Japanese. But, considering how much more skilful they looked initially, and how well they were able to play, that's a pretty respectable score. I think it wouldn't be too cheeky to treat that as boiling down to a 3-2 game in standard matchplay, which would certainly be a pretty respectable result. Plus, a few of the Japanese guys said afterwards that they'd enjoyed the game and it would be good to do it again. I, for one, agree.

After my thighs and calves have dissolved back from their rock-like state to something more like normal flexibility, that is! ;)

Anyway, I'm crossing my fingers that we'll not have a repeat of that crap initial turn-out of only 8 players tomorrow... ?! ermm.gif

    See you down there? biggrin.gif

  6. Hi all,

Here's the weekly reminder/confirmation/prompt for footy tomorrow.

Last week was pretty good, with good tempo and temperament both. The sides maybe could have been more balanced, but all was good and friendly while still competitive, which is just about ideal. Plus, we saw some great passing football from both sides. So hopefully we'll have more of the same tomorrow.

    See you down there...

  7. Aha!Is it that time again?

Yesindeed, it’s on again tomorrow and what better way to jump start the week?

    FOOTY-BALL!:D

So, last week did ok again with 13 to begin with, until the ‘Bowden’ felt a twinge in his thigh and limped off home weepinguncontrollably ;) – then 12 to finish with. And, despite me having a little 10second rant towards the end of our last hour of scoring play, I thought we hadsome pretty decent football going on. I might normally make apology for havinga moan, if it weren’t for the fact that directly afterwards the work rate andpassing accuracy of our team rose dramatically, causing us to claw back a 4goal deficit to finish closely at 7-6! Fair play was also well observed allround, it should be said, though Ken might be suffering a fractured rib or twothis week after an unintentional (really & truly, honest) collision withyours truly. :-s

So, usual info, same place, same time – plus as a bonus this week, I’ve addedsome classic footy quotes below:

    When: Sunday 26th September

    Bring it on! w00t.gif

Last week we had an alright game. 12 peeps and pretty even teams. Mostenjoyable!

Thanks especially to our 2‘extra’ players – Tem and Chris’s friend (sorry, forgot his name) – withoutwhom to make up the numbers to the optimum, we would’ve probably had quite adifferent time of it. Cheers.

So, this week it's our usual again, same place, same time:

  9. Ok, here it is again, time to shake off all the shizzit you've accumulated during the last week of stresses, worries and woes... and kick the crap out of a 10-inch diameter ball of compressed air!

    Ah, the beautiful game :)

Last week we struggled again with only 9 people showing up. But thankfully I persuaded some other guys waiting for their own team's session to come play with us. Then when they found they didn't have enough themselves, the 8 players of their team came and played against us as a team. With the mix-up of our regular guys and theirs, some organisational and temperamental hiccups came about. Details aside, ultimately it probably wasn't the most satisfying game of footy we've played; but then again, as we only had 9 people, we would've had quite a dull session anyway.

In answer to Matt's call for 'rules for sorting out teams': I have always made a concerted effort to make the team allocation as fair and arbitrary as possible. I'd hate to see the playground-style situation where teams are picked out player by player and someone ends up being the 'last pick' - it's unnecessary and is totally against the spirit of our game. So, for now, I'm either going to stick to separating teams by the shirt colours they are wearing - somewhat arbitrary, though I know not completely - or I pick the teams and then sit out as sub, assuming we have enough players. And yes, we will use bibs if available. Ok?

Anyway, this week it's our usual 4pm start, this Sunday, at the Arsenal pitch:

    When: Sunday 12th September

    Time: ** 4pm - 6pm **

    at: Arsenal Soccer School,

  10. Hi all, just a reminder that we've got some cracking footy lined up for you all again tomorrow ;)

Last week we just about had enough players with 11 people (dropping freakishly back from the 17+ we had the week before). In spite of the fact we had to wait 20 mins for the preceeding tournament game, and we'd already been pushed to the later 6pm slot so we finished quite late; but it was still pretty good actually and everyone seemed to enjoy the game.

So, this week it's back to our usual 4pm start.

Just to confirm/remind all then, this Sunday 5th, at the Arsenal pitch:

    When: Sunday 5th September

    Time: ** 4pm - 6pm **

    at: Arsenal Soccer School,

17/1 Soi Pridi Banomyong 21, Sukhumvit 71 Rd., Phrakhanong, Bangkok 10110

  11. hey man my name is Alex im from spain and I really like to pay futsal, im pretty good at it. I was wondering if you know any futsal team here in thailand that i can go to play for or at least try, iif is there anyone who knows it, the information would be appreciate [email protected]

    Regards

    Alex

    Hi Alex,

You're welcome to come and join us tomorrow if you like. We play on an artificial grass pitch at the moment, so it's not really 'futsal' (we used to play on a hard court but it has no cover so we had to move when the rains started), but it's similar as it's still only 5 or 6 players on each side.

Come along tomorrow - see the details below and I'll add your email to our contact list so you'll get the info there too.

I'd advise you to edit your post though if you can and remove your email address from it, or you'll soon be getting tons of junk emails to that account!

Hope to see you tomorrow :)

    Damaja.

  12. Hi all, hope everyone's had a good week and that last week's game was good in my absence (despite or because of) ;)

Tomorrow I've booked us in at the Arsenal pitch again, but as they've got a tournament on 4 of the pitches I could only get a later slot, so this week it's a 6pm start.

Hope that's ok for everyone (?)

Just to confirm/remind all then, this Sunday 29th, at the Arsenal pitch, same time:

    When: Sunday 29th August

    Time: ** 6pm - 8pm **

    at: Arsenal Soccer School,

17/1 Soi Pridi Banomyong 21, Sukhumvit 71 Rd., Phrakhanong, Bangkok 10110

    Telephone: 02-711-1221

Google maps link with directions from Prakhanong BTS: http://bit.ly/bqhnTR

    Cost: 1500 bht /hr (200 - 300 bht each)

Hope to see many of you there tomorrow,

If you get a chance please post reply if u can/can't make it.

  13. Afraid I'm away this week (in Hong Kong till 23rd) so won't be able to meet, but please do join anyway - all welcome!

Angus will be taking care of the booking and paying etc. in my absence.

Was pretty good last week as we had a good turn out with 3 teams of 6 rotating, and we had some really good games and everyone seemed pretty satisfied by the end. Hopefully you'll have the same this Sunday.

Just to confirm/remind all then, it's same again this Sunday 22nd, at the Arsenal pitch, same time:

    When: Sunday 22nd August

    Time: 4pm - 6pm

    at: Arsenal Soccer School,

17/1 Soi Pridi Banomyong 21, Sukhumvit 71 Rd., Phrakhanong, Bangkok 10110

    Telephone: 02-711-1221

Google maps link with directions from Prakhanong BTS: http://bit.ly/bqhnTR

    Cost: 1500 bht /hr (200 - 300 bht each)

Have a good one guys and I'll see you next week!

    :header:

  14. @PomPui & ostrich219 & frenz:

Absolutely! Come along guys. As SICA says, we're a friendly and mixed bunch of guys, and fitness is definitely *not* one of the strengths of our players. Certainly it's not a requirement. All that's needed is the inclination and getting yourself there, so please come and join in asap.

Can you all PM your email & tel. contact info to me (plus your real name) and I'll add you to our contact list.

@ostrich219: I'm sure some of our guys would be interested in joining with your lot for a 2nd game, though I hope it doesn't deplete the numbers coming to our games on Sundays, esp if yours are on Saturdays.

Would be interested to know about the place you play at too - in Sathorn? Is it astro turf with roof & lights? How much is it and whereabouts exactly is it located?

We could even sort out some match ups between our lot and yours... it'd be great if we could chat about it, so will you be able to come down to join in with us tomorrow? [Location/timing etc. below]

For this week, a reminder to all the guys that played last week and an update for those that didn't - we're booked at the Arsenal pitch again, same time:

    When: Sunday 15th August

    Time: 4pm - 6pm

    at: Arsenal Soccer School,

17/1 Soi Pridi Banomyong 21, Sukhumvit 71 Rd., Phrakhanong, Bangkok 10110

    Telephone: 02-711-1221

Google maps link with directions from Prakhanong BTS: http://bit.ly/bqhnTR

    Cost: 1500 bht /hr (200 - 300 bht each)

    See you's there!

    :header:

  15. Oh, and here's an alternative route from Ekkamai BTS - roughly same by road, but just a tad quicker if you're coming from Siam as it saves u one BTS stop: http://bit.ly/a6E6Fx

Tried to get a booking at Soccerpro (Sathorn) during the week and checked again today, but no availability. Didn't get to the bottom of the 'membership' deal there that Kelvin mentioned might get the price down to a reasonable level either.

  16. hi Adam, I'll be there this week. Sorry been away all this while and injuries. If you are short of players, let me know early I could bring a couple or more every week.

    See you tomorrow

    Vic

Great that you're coming tomorrow Vic.

If you can bring others with you then please do - take it as read, any week, as we will always have a better situation with more players than less (at least for the forseeable future).

Even moreso when we play at the Super-kick place as the pitch is quite large.

  17. Ok guys, double good news this week (in contrast to last week):

    - There was a cancellation at Superkick and I got to book the 4-6pm slot! cool.gif

    - We have a new (possibly regular) player as I have a Thai friend coming tomorrow

So, let's have it then! Who can confirm they can make it tomorrow?

    at: Super-kick,

Soi Ladprao 80, Ladprao Road, Bangkapi 10240.

    Tel: 02 932 7217

Google maps link with directions from Thailand Cultural Centre MRT: http://bit.ly/cmePgg

    When: Sunday 1st August

    Time: 4pm - 6pm

    Pitch: B

    Cost: 1500 bht /hr (200 - 300 bht each)

    :header:

  18. Oh! I've just been working out the location on google maps and now I have a better idea why it's cheaper... it's quite a way out.

I was thinking it'd be near to Rama 9 hospital, so nearish to Superkick and MRT.

It's a good 15-20 mins taxi ride from On Nut. If I've got the right place:

    http://bit.ly/aU4a5U

That's quite a long journey for some people I think :(

Well, for me it'd be a bout an hour I reckon (from Chidlom).

  19. Wow, maybe it's the place groovetank mentioned but it's just been renovated. It must be pretty new - the website visitor counter is only at 152!

Well, it's certainly interesting at those prices and seeing as it looks brand spanking new and they seem to have plenty of availability.

Their website puts the price at 1000 baht though, so I wonder if the 500 baht rate is for a *covered*, full 5-a-side (what size?), artificial grass pitch; or for a lesser pitch?

There's a page in Thai on the website that seems to give info about the different 'turf'/grass and refers to a 22m x 42m size, but it's not translating well via google so no more enlightening than the info you've got so far:

    http://www.slpsports.com/services/footsoll/

Still, even at 1000 baht, it's the cheapest around town for sure!

Haven't quite worked out how easy/difficult it would be to find or get to yet though (map is in thai). Any idea/comments?

I'm definitely up for trying it out if it's not more difficult to get to than Superkick.

    Who else?

Shall I cancel Superkick (7-8pm or 2-4pm) and we try for this place instead at our usual 4-6pm slot?
