  1. Rama 9 hospital looks fairly near to the MRT on Google maps and it's 1 stop nearer than Super-kick, so I guess worth knowing about.

Can u see the place on the Google maps view? Does it at least have a roof & lights?

I called Super-Kick today to see if there was any cancellations...

Good news is that there's now an earlier slot available.

Bad news is it's 2pm - 4pm, so quite a hot time of the day...

...but then again, it's not 'too' hot at the moment and esp. if it rains...?

Other bad news is, the last time I called the guy made a mistake and the evening slot available isn't 2hrs (7-9pm) but only one: 7-8pm.

    I've booked the 7-8pm slot anyway as a fall-back,

but I now need to know if people would prefer/not the 2pm-4pm slot?

Or if they are flexible on Sunday?

Personally, I'm flexible and would be ok playing at 2-4pm.

I guess it would be a problem for you groovetank, would it?

  2. Hi All,

I have found a new place for 5/6 a-side. I believe it is only 500Baht for an hour but i will check. I think it's astro-turf but again, need to check.

The downside is that it is located behind Seacon Square shopping mall, on Sri Nagarindra road, opposite the entrance to Rama 9 park.

Do you think this is too far for people to travel. It will be about 15-20 mins on a motorbike taxi from On-nut BTS.

Before i go to check it out, let me know if you think it's worth it.

Cheers guys. Have a great week.

Do you know the name or if there a website for the place?

  3. Alright, sorry guys but gotta cancel.

Only 7 firm confirmations and 2 "maybes".

So, no footy this week. :(

Can all who are in for next week please post here asap.

I asked Superkick when I called to cancel and they only have a 7pm slot available next Sunday.

I'll try again to see if there's been any cancellations for an earlier slot in a few days,

but if 7pm - 9pm would be alright for you please say.

  4. <deleted>!

Chased up some of the other players and most *not* here this week:

Angus (in Pattaya for his pub opening),

    Rob (away at Samet),

    Bob,

    Adam R.,

    Dave F.,

    Lewis (+away for next week),

    Ken (+away for next week),

Sam -no tel. no. & no email reply yet.

    Chris A. -no reply yet.

    Vik -no reply yet.

    Emanuel -no reply yet.

Chris B. -no reply yet (& may still be injured)

    Mike -v. likely still injured

Yikes! It's a freaky week for people being away when we need more players than usual!

    I count only 8 so far unsure.gif

  5. Ok, there is news on this Sunday:

I've booked us a slot at 'Superkick' (http://www.superkick...h/contactus.asp)

    4pm - 6pm

I've even added the place to Google maps (judged by the map on their website: http://www.superkick.in.th/map.asp )

with a route from the 'Thailand Cultural centre MRT' station, which estimates 10 mins in a taxi:

    http://bit.ly/cmePgg

Note, the pitch is bigger even than the Arsenal one (20m x 40m), at 30m x 50m, so is actually suitable for 7-a-side! So, it's crucial that we have *at least* 10 players, but preferably 14+.

I know 4 guys already said last Sunday that they'd be away this week (Matt H., Tamo, Jai +1), so we really need 10 firm confirmations by Saturday morning, or I'll cancel the Super Kick booking and try for Arena 10 instead.

Steve (SICA), I'll take your post as confirmation, plus me, so another 8+ posts please:......

    :)

  6. Thanks a lot again Brian for going down to the Superkick place and checking it out. Directions and report much appreciated.

Definitely sounds worth trying next week.

I look forward to seeing how you try and head the ball while ur using ur handstand methodology ;)

I'm hoping that the relative quiet and lack of responses this week isn't indicative of how many people will be coming out to Arena 10 in Thonglor today...?

  7. Ok, update:

Good news: Brian checked out the Superkick place in Ladprao and confirms it's a "very nice setup" etc., and that it's about a 10-15 min txi/motorbike ride from the MRT station.

Bad news: It was only available at the 1pm-3pm slot tomorrow.

So, I've decided we can wait till next week to try that one (after checking the viable times with everyone tomorrow) and have instead confirmed the Arena 10 booking.

    Confirmation then:

    Sunday 18th July, *5pm - 7pm*.

    Arena 10

Address: 225/11 Thonglor Soi 10, Thonglor (Sukhumvit 55), BKK 10110.

    Tel: 02 392 2313 / 0863 262133

    (Google maps link:

    http://maps.google.co.th/maps?q=arena+10+thonglo&hl=en&cd=2&ei=2IxBTNWrO4HYvAPp7JilDg&sig2=Hpv-1wJHY90XTCYbXmFt4g&ie=UTF8&view=map&cid=7098069884151787377&iwloc=A&ved=0CBkQpQY&sa=X )

*NOTE: total cost for pitch for 2 hrs is 3000 bht, so please be aware it will cost 200-300 bht each, depending on how many players we have.

    Also, remember, it's astro-turf.

  8. Ok, for this weekend's Bangkok footy excursion, the venue is still to be confirmed...

I just about managed to communicate a 4pm booking yesterday at the Soccerpro place in Sathorn/Rama3, but then when I got my housekeeper to talk to them in Thai today (she's not around on Fridays so I'd muddled along with bits of crap Thai & pidgeon English previously), they said the price would be 1700 bht each hour - in spite of the fact that their website says that the rates are 1100 before 5pm and 1200 after!? So, I smelled a bit of a fish there and told them 'no thx'!

So, now I've called Brian about the 'Superkick' place in Ladprao, which does look very nice and has more/better facilities than the Arsenal one by the looks of it, plus it actually has quite a big pitch size according to their website - 50m x 30m (http://www.superkick.in.th/field.asp) - at 1200-1500 bht/hr (http://www.superkick.in.th/facility_detail.asp?fid=23)

But, as the map on the website is pretty crap (http://www.superkick.in.th/contactus.asp) not entirely sure about how easy it is to get to, so Brian's going to go down there and check it out this afternoon.

As a backup, I've checked with Arena-10 (the Thonglor one we played at before: http://www.arena10.com/) and they have availability from 5pm-7pm, so if Brian says the Superkick one in Ladprao is a bit of a trek, then we'll go to Arena 10 instead.

Sorry it's a bit last minute again guys... been a busy week for me again and got thrown by the Soccerpro dodginess today.

Check later this evening for an update and confirmation.

  9. Ok, hope the new venue won't throw off anyone... roll call this week:

  10. ha no worries found it. guys i have booked for next Sunday from 4pm-6pm. Its under my name in case i can't make it next week

Ok, as Angus mentioned, we are already booked at the Arsenal pitch for this Sunday (11th july),

    for 2 hrs, 4pm - 6pm.

I reckon best thing is we see what we think of the Arsenal place this Sunday, and then we can talk about the other options after we've played. Maybe we go try a diff. one next week..?

Here's a compilation list of the suggested places so far:

    1) Arena10 - Thonglor Soi 10 - http://www.arena10.com/

    2) Arsenal Soccer School - Prakhanong - http://www.arsenalthai.com/_website/AddressMap.aspx

    3) SoccerPro - Rama 3/Sathorn - http://www.soccerprobkk.com/

    4) SuperKick - Ladprao - http://www.superkick.in.th/main.asp

    5) S-One - Bang Na - [http://www.iplay.co.th/sone.htm ]

Who's in for this Sunday at Arsenal pitch then?

    Hi all,

I know its a bit far out of town but the S-One facility in Bang Na area is without doubt the best footballing 7 aside facility in The Bangkok Metropolitan area.

Trouble is... its a trek to get to in terms of distance but not not necessarily so in time.. the Bang Na expressway allows travel times of less than 20 minutes from city center but will set you back 150 baht in taxis each way. They currently run 7-aside leagues there already with over 20 teams participating this year.

To the best of my knowledge there are usually slots still available on Sunday afternoons for general public... 1300 baht per hour....for those of you with good internet speeds view the link to see what the facilities are like..

    Cheers

    Hello everyone,

I have been to Soccer Pro from Sathorn and from Rama 3 and it seemed faster and closer to Sathorn than Rama 3. I played ultimate frisbee at Arsenal before and from what I remember the field at Soccer Pro is better quality.

A league sounds like fun. I would be up for that if others are as well.

    Hi everyone,

Thought I’d throw this into the mix.

Don’t get me wrong, Arsenal pitches sound great. But where does everyone live? Are we predominately Sukhumvit and surrounds, or are more of us down around this side.

Why I ask is, Kelvin and I had a talk and Kelvin mentioned Soccer Pro as a venue : http://www.soccerprobkk.com/

Looks okay, though I have to admit it is a ways down Rama III. Anyway maybe something to consider.

Also, is anyone interested in joining a league? Comp = commitment (as in turning up) so maybe not. I like pickup games personally. Less stress. But I also like the challenge.

  14. Sorry Angus, only got to my emails etc late today...

    Thanks for making the booking.

Guys, feel free to opt in now for this next one (Sunday 11th July, 4pm - 6pm, at Arsenal Soccer School pitch) so we have an idea of numbers.

I'm a tentative "in", as my ankle's improving but probably won't know for sure if it'll be strong enough till Friday/Sat.

    Link to location again: http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msa=0&msid=117360671650695826320.00045ba433b8ba07c7f9d&ie=UTF8&ll=13.721584,100.595498&spn=0.017531,0.027874&t=h&z=16

  15. Hi all, as my ankle is still knackered (again!) from last week's game and I am also moving to a new apartment Sunday afternoon, I won't be able to join this week unfortunately, but Angus will be there to take the reins with the booking and collect money etc....

Ok, you have a choice this week (or at least a back-up)....the usual booking at Sathorn Sponsor Park, 4pm-6pm, still stands, *and* after many mentions and requests, I have also made a booking at the Arsenal Soccer School in Ekkamai/Prakhanong 4pm-5pm (see map here: http://www.arsenalthai.com/_website/AddressMap.aspx ).

    So, the choices:

    1) usual Sathorn Sponsor Park - hard-court - 4pm - 6pm - total fee for 2hrs: 1200 bht [600 bht/hr till 6pm; 1200 bht/hr after 6pm]

    2) Arsenal Soccer School, Ekkamai - astro-turf - 4pm - 5pm - fee for 1hr: 1300 bht [1300 bht/hr till 5pm; 1500 bht/hr after 5pm].

The thinking is, if at least 10 reply (preferably here on the ThaiVisa topic, or if necessary, email to *all*) by Sunday 2pm, saying they'll definitely be up for going to the Arsenal astro-turf pitch, then game will be there. If not, then the game will be at Sathorn as usual.

If it rains any time after 2 pm, it will be at Arsenal pitch.

If the game is going to be at Sathorn, I'll try bring the no.1 (Simon's) white ball down there, but I'll be running around packing and supervising movers most of the day, so I may not answer phone/texts/email straight away I'm afraid.

I've copied the contacts list below though, so contact Angus or Simon if any difficulties or need any more info. etc.

    Cheers,

    Adam.

P.S. Brazilian John didn't give an email yet, so if not at Sathorn, he'll have to be contacted by text/call if nec.; and I don't have anything for Akim, so hope he (and any other new 'walk-ins') sees the message on the forum.

Expected for 4pm Sunday 4th July:

    - Angustan

    - JonnyF

    - Groovetank

    - Roser87

    - BBBB

    - Thehabs

    - SICA

    - KCM

    Maybe, but not confirmed:

    - Richard_smith237

    - Adam R.

    - John Brazil

    - Jai Shankar

    - EmanuelSWE

    - Neutronium

    - Vicksajnani

    - Bkksteviejai

    - vid1

    - Tamo

Can't make it (till) or haven't been/seen/heard from for a while:

    - Damaja (July 11th) -

    - FlaxChris (in UK till ?)

    - Beechy (injured?)

    - Beejoir (injured ?)

    - Sure (?)

    - MegaRanter

    - Luang (?)

  16. After the top-billed clash of the titans (Portugal & Brazil) failed to entertain yesterday, I expect there'll be a few ready to revive their footy thrills with some five-a-side magic this Sunday!

It'll also be a great warm up (or calming of the nerves) before the evening thriller - England vs. Germany!

    Bring it on!

You know the score... 4pm - 6pm, Sunday (27th) at Sathorn Sponsor Park.

Post up on here if ur coming or not.

Maybe we should end with a mock penalty shoot-out to see what might be on the cards...?

    nail-biting stuff ahead!
