  1. I've used it twice to my complete satisfaction.

Arrival : The 10-15 minutes depend on where your arrival gate is (I'm a slow walker) and how quickly your baggage arrives, but immigration is a breeze, and yes I was met at the arrival gate.

Departure : They even checked me in, escorted through immigration in less than 15 minutes.

    Hope to have helped

    Yermanee

Agree - we used them - worked like a charm - no complaints.

It is however also possible to simply buy vouchers which entitle you to use the CIP immigration service and you can then use the diplomatic or air crew counter immigration desks - both coming in and leaving.

what is CIP? seen it everywhere but no idea

  2. Sorry, a bit off-topic, but,

Is it true that when you buy a land in Thailand you can declare that you buy it a lot cheaper than the real price to pay less transfer fee ?

In Krabi it seems that even when they know that the real land price is around 5 millions, lawyers declare that you buy it 500000 thb, and then you pay tax on only 500k ?

How is it possible that land office accept to be cheated that much ?

    Thanks for info.

It's all based on the Land Offices evaluations - which are very under valued and everyone under-declares the sale price

  3. Does anyone else take this product? I am paying 670 a box - any better and cheaper suppliers? it seems to work very well and I sort of rely on it now

  4. If anyone's interested I've become a mini-bloodhound concerning Sala's! I have just bought one after 'nearly' buying one at 'Saravuth House' on the road to Ban Tawai - I say 'nearly' as although they are very good quality they are soooooo expensive.

I was quoted 45,000 no discount! anyway a 'friend' showed me another place within Ban Tawai itself and I got a 95% identical Sala for 20,000 (teak roof, hardwood interior) Thai style - but a month's wait as there was a queue. So 25,000 better off and I'll have to be a little more patient.

    Here endeth the Sala saga

    Thanks for the information.

What were the main diffrerences between the 45 000 Baht and the 20 000 one?

    That's a huge difference.

    Regards

    Will

the problem is I can't give you an answer - they look the same to me! just the one I am having made is 'made-to-order' by some old guy one at a time - that's why i have to wait one month because someone is ahead of me in the sala queue

  5. Met a very disgruntled pair of TV members last night who'd been scouring the Big C area for night life, and not finding any! Winnie, Gotlost, think a guided tour might be needed :)

    David

If you were in the Dong area your not even close to where my 30 bars are.

Looked on the map - I thought we were discussing Hang Dong? if these bars are on the 118 they are the opposite side of town? confused blink.gif

Yes, Gotlost lives on the wrong side of town. The point is though that it doesn't matter, because these places are all over, on any major (but semi-rural) road into, out-of, and around Chiang Mai town.

But.. a guided tour, I can see that. I can easily fit 10 Thaivisa members in the back of a truck, then we go curb-crawling past all the ehm, venues. It'd be like a Night Safari, but better!

May I just note to everyone to ENJOY this current era where such places are apparenlty still a challenge to find? With information technology and social media still very much on the increase, 5 years from now we will think back fondly of the time when there actually was somewhat of a challenge.

5 years from now every little Christmas-light-lit-bamboo-shack will be on Foursquare, all the staff on Facebook. Where's the challenge then.

guided tour is a great idea :)

Any more clues??? think of the Planet and save our gas riding around in circles cool.gif

OK one more time. Go out the 118 from CM. You city boys call it the Chaing Rai or Doi Saket highway. If you really want to start the tour start in back of Carrefour off the the 11 you only have about 24 bars in that area. Now for the other 30 plus go back out to the 118 and head towards Doi Saket keep your eyes open for Christmas lites. After you pass threw the 121 intersection or the 2nd rang road some places can look like the the national christmas tree at the White House. There is a small intersection going towards CM that's has 6 bars at it.

Thanks - we try again and will report back! whistling.gif

haha yes we spent 2 hours looking for these 30 bars! spent a little time (not fruitful) at the bars around Big C then spent a pleasant time with David but alas are no nearer finding these 'lost' bars!

  10. Middle Ring? I guess you are not talking about The Hobbit right? do you mean the link road between Hang Dong Road and canal Road?

that brings you out opposite Big C? I saw some small bars along there

There are several roads linking the Hang Dong road and the Canal Road, but yes, the one that passes Big C at the underpass.

oh right the small section of bars just before you turn into Big C? I think they are different than the other 30 odd bars everyone else mentioned - anyway research demands I check them out!

  11. actually there IS a market for a 'girl' bar around Nimman (there ain't any) or around Hang Dong (there ain't any)

HuH!? Nimman I don't know, but there are LOADS in Hang Dong! Follow the christmas lights. Also most of the Southern stretch of the Middle ring is in Hang Dong district. Even just that stretch has more bars than Loi Kroh. Plust it seems that a boutique-resort has opened near them, with daily or hourly rates. It looks rather nice. (Except you'd be U-turning miles down the road to get there from the best fo the bars, or back up against traffic.. )

double post (in my excitement!) apologies

on the link road to hang dong road? facing Big C? I saw a few along there - I'll go check them out for research - if it's not them where? (sorry if I appear dumb but I just moved here).

  13. I'm new to Hang Dong so where? where?

    Hint. Look for Christmas lites.

Or, somewhat more respectable on the corner where Big C Hang Dong is. Looks very nice, though the wait is for a 10 wheel truck not quite making the turn on to the Middle Ring road and taking out several of those bars. ;)

But pretty much all along the Middle Ring; some restaurants, some bars. Some respectable, some less so.

  14. Out towards the Royal Flora Park on Avenue Phitsanulok,

    Ratchapruek Rd.

A better on yet go down to Phitsanulok and check out the action around the bus station at night.. Reminds me of the Greyhound bus depots in the states in the early 60's

you mean the city? or a street named Phitsanulok?

  15. Doi Sakhet Road about half way coming from Doi Sakhet into Chiang Mai - you see them by the roadside - plenty of them. (They also sell coffins!)

But be aware not to scare your Thai friends away with a wooden Sala as some time ago somebody came up with the idea to transport the dead in a wooden Sala to their cremation- in the past they used a colorful "prasad" to cover the coffin and it was burned together with the remains.

Recently it has become "fashionable" to use a wooden Sala which is not burned together with the remains but donated to the temple after the cremation as it can be used as a Sala on the temple grounds - some are given to schools e.g.

Good idea I think - not money wasted and burned - but as we all know the problem is many Thais are so superstitious! Some people might not want to sit down in your beautiful wooden Sala since there might be the "ghost" of a dearly departed in there!

wow! luckily mine is being built to order so hopefully no spooks!

  16. Which train station road, is this in Chiangmai? Did anyone have their address?

The best place to buy xbox games is a little shop near the train station. copied games that is. they sell all consoles and all games, it's much cheaper than the shops in department stores.

go down the train station road, take a left and cross over the tracks, go over the next junction, and it is on the left opposite a petrol station.

got literally hundreds of xbox 360 games. 100 baht each. consoles, controllers etc. much cheaper than elsewhere. got ps3's, ps2's, wii's, handhelds and all accessories. the owner's well friendly and will recommend games...

yeah, you might get kicked off xbox live (it happened to me last month), but it ain't worth it! live is pretty lame, and not worth buying all your games at full prices!

    hope my directions are okay

    peace

I searchedT out this place and found it, they got all kind of games, 100 ht for xbox games and 60 bht for ps2 games. Im looking for a console and games. I think i will go for the ps2 because as mentioned that seems to have the most and cheapest games. What do you think?? suggestions.

They sell the system for 4600 bht. Unless someone is selling one, i may go for it.

what do you mean 'which train station road'? it's the road where the Choo Choo's go down? yes even Chiang Mai has Choo Choo's doh

  18. I can show you a place near Ban Tawai, 20-25k

    teak sala if you want.

    David

very much appreciate the offer David - but I've just bought one in Ban Tawai

  19. There's a place on the Super - east of town and coming towards CM - between the Mahidol Road underpass (for airport) and the newish Toyota showroom that do them ready built upwards from around 35 k.

Think there's also a place somewhere in Kamtien plus they have those (expensive) sales couple times a year by Tesco

Made by prison inmates from Lamphun!

    David

    PS can't see the pic!

went today and it's moved (don't know where)
