  1. I have gone for TOT after all the problems everyone says about 3BB - I was in the 3BB shop ready to sign up and a Thai lady was cancelling and advised me never to go with 3BB - so I have signed up to TOT instead - fingers crossed!

I have started a separate thread about TOT.

    edit: spl

  2. I sold in 2008. I take my investments very seriously, and I believe those responsible for making my investment worth less, need to be exposed. Let me be clear that it's not a farang v. thai thing-it's people who are considerate v. those who are not.

so - it's largely a Thai/Farang thing - as Thais (generally) are much less considerate - but we live here! our choice

  3. And then there's the sewer gas issues. Notice how the houses don't have drain vents coming out the roofs? That's why the sewer gas comes back into the house through the drains.

Jeeze man... if you don't like it move? my house is only two years old and I haven't found any problems so far - I guess it depends who built yours and how old is it etc. etc.

  4. Maybe someone could explain why the developer has been trying to unload his house for more than 5 years. The dog problem starts 200 m past the gate on the right. Thai renters feed soi dogs and let them roam at night. Another 100 m on the left is where a policeman built a 10+ million thb home, and his golden retrievers are out in the street. A large german shepherd near the clubhouse roaming..............Third World residents in an almost first World Development.

He does not live there, the house is too big for just him and his wife. The long period it has been on the market is probably because the price is too high. Like me he wants to sell and get something smaller. 3 of his brothers and a sister also live on the estate. Does that help with your concerns?

The dog problem-no worse/better than anywhere else I have lived in Thailand. As for the third world residents,I believe most have now left the estate.

Third world residents living in a second world country surrounded by first world farangs? hmmm blink.gif

  5. The only good thing about Pattaya is when I leave it - last time I went I was supposed to stay a few days but left the next day - it's soooooo depressing.

You were so depressed after one day, so decided to leave?

Leaving aside the obvious wink.gif, you don't think you could have found something interesting to do or places to see for a few days?

Did you leave your hotel room?

well... to be fair I told only half the story... I left out that it was my third or fourth visit and I didn't particularly enjoy those other occasions and a friend invited me to go down again and I walked along walking street and all the screaming hard nosed girls making a living and yes, I found it depressing. I believe there are few people who have experienced Thailand over a few years who would choose to stay there - it's more of a tourist 'get laid' trap.

up to you! if people like good luck to them - but give me the choice between a long legged Northern Lanna girl and some over lipsticked well used little girl turning tricks every night and I know what I'd choose - and do choose! they have a certain 'hardness' down there and a cynicism (which is probably warranted to be fair) that doesn't really gel with me - more for the drunken tourist, bottle of Singha in hand out on a 'bender'.

  6. I am looking for land to build in the 'close to, but not in, town' range.. And keep coming back to the BWT, sure I would probably have a couple of rai in other locations v 1 rai or so there, but the solid internet, insulation from usual neighbor issues, assurances a tin shack karaoke wont open next door, yet decent space unlike most moobaans keep me coming back to the plot(s) I like.

Seems like the money spent on land prices there are not that far inflated compared to other premium locations (like royal flora area or anywhere decent within 10kms of town).

I'm in a similar position and have been looking for some suitable land for 1 year now. We did visit BMT recently but it seemed like there was a lot of empty plots and quite run down so it's not even on the list. The same thing (old village that still has lots of unsold plots) put us off World Club Land. We are renting at Home in Park which is a successful well managed development and very family friendly, the only thing putting me off buying here is the houses are a little too small. We are 90% decided to custom build something at Sansaran (same developer as Home in Park) which has also sold very quickly. The only other development we considered is Chiang Mai Lakeland, but again that suffers from a now derelict club house and the moobarn looks poorly managed, a pity because its in a good location.

Out of interest what are the land prices at BWT?

    Hi

we moved to BWT unseen, renting for a year.

We loved the open spaces and bought a plot and built a house (in zone 4)

No problems with dogs here. Land is currently 8000/talang wah

    But not much for sale,

    David

I can't speak for the rest of the moobaan but where I am there is not a dog problem that I can see so far (apart from some yapping nusisances). Anyone trying to sell a house (or anything) for 5 years unsuccessfully is overpriced. I have condos here and if I can't rent/sell them its because the market thinks I am asking too much - the developer I bought my house from has sold 16 so far.

  7. I have never had any problems driving here :)

you gotta be joking? it's horrendous - selfishness reigns supreme - no 'indicators', park and turn where they want - I hate it

  8. Well I'm enjoying BWT it's lovely! I'm in project 5 and it seems very quiet and nice people - I love the 'feel' of BWT being like a resort - long winding lanes with trees - very nice place I must say. I plan to stay weekdays and in my studio in town on weekends - best of both worlds.

  9. Hi all,

New to this, but to let all know that YES, Gangaji and her husband Eli Jaxon Bear will be at Kamalya Resort the 7th and 8th of Jan., that's kamalayadotcom. The fee for sitting in is 300 baht for each of 2 sessions. There is no need to stay at the resort or even fly in with overpriced airlines. Air Asia has cheap returns to Surat Thani from Bkk and the ferry is every hour for maybe 100 baht. The best chance i have now of meeting 2 BUDDHAS. There is also Nathan (another realized BEING) on Koh Phangan, whom i'm trying to reach to make a great awakening to the New Year.

A friend and i are also looking to get together with other TRUTH & FREEDOM people here in Bangkok. Actually the only real, ha.... no-thing that every sentient being should be trying to discover.

    free to contact me

oh my God - the BLUE is this a sign of Enlightenment? no reds or yellows?

  10. Ok I can see that they may 'know' but there has been NO conviction right? everyone is innocent until proven guilty, in a Court of Law, even in the US - he can just say 'not me - they deported the wrong guy' - it appears there is no confession, no conviction and no sentence - anyone know different?

If only life were that easy.

My personal opinion (often wrong) is that she will have a very hard time getting into the USA.

No conviction in court true, but neither have a lot of other USA blacklisted people without convictions.

I think the US will look at the evidence, talk to the authorities and decide that 'he did it'.

But isn't it strange, to you, that there is no court case and no conviction?

I think it's unbelievably strange (if true).

I concur with uptheos assessment of the situation. The USA knows EVERYTHING about their citizens business; legal or illegal. It's the biggest Nanny state in the world. If we all know about it, then the Feds do as well. I would say that the chances of Bob's wife getting a visa to the USA would be close to impossible. Again, I believe that there is more to this story...

Well I guess you're right about the visa - but fact of deportation without conviction or a court hearing is bizarre 'unless' some people 'further up the line' are in for a 'visit from the BIB' but I would have thought that may put his wife in danger - I hope not!

  13. but he may try and get her to the States?

If she was charged with any drug related crime he will find that task most difficult.

I'm sure the US authorities already have her name on file.

If they are legally married it will be the same surname as his.

Was he/they charged with a crime? there was no Court appearance as far as we know - and therefore no conviction? why would the US authorities know anything? surely he was deported and blacklisted and that was that? end of story?

  14. He has lived in Thailand for a number of years and his wife is Thai and he can't come back.

I don't think that he "got away with it", but I agree that things could have gone much worse for him. I'm sure that he regrets getting caught and that is pretty much the point.

Yes I understand that that is a personal tragedy Ulysses but he may try and get her to the States? I was more reflecting on the undoubted thoughts in his mind (and all our minds) concerning prison (or worse) - I don't support drugs but I did feel some sympathy for him and his foolishness.

To be caught dealing in those quantities and to be in the US without any convictions is a result? and so from the law point-of-view he did 'get away with it' - try that in Singapore, Cambodia or US (or just about anywhere). Amazing Thailand.

  15. The main thing you need to learn about 'the culture' (in cases like this) is that newspapers are _always_ wrong. Thai and English alike. Trying to micro-analyze a newspaper article for minute details (such as if there was opium or not) is futile. (And then using Google Translate is FUTILER, or course. ;) )

True... but this is all academic - he (largely) got away with it - and as there was no conviction in any Court has nothing to answer for in the good Ole US. How he managed this is the mystery - any 'newspapers' commenting on 'how' he pulled off this 'Houdini' act?
