  1. after having a great loss of power supplys, I used 2 cleanline UPS, to learn,

that during very strong rain, the power seems to be reduced.

From my 3 phase connection, only one phase had 230 V,

    the other 2 had around 140 V.

A swiss guy near khon kaen bought a avr 10 kva for about 40.000 Baht,

    http://www.isaan-thai.ch/viewtopic.php?f=63&t=1394#p22375

    seems to be that model,

    http://www.soundmarkthai.com/webboard_1181871_38020_th?lang=th

but is it the normal price for an avr ?

I thought about, of placing TV, PC, and all valuable electric on one phase curcuit,

that is protectet by the one avr, but I`m not shure about the whole concept,

    of undervoltage and overvoltage protection.

  2. FOLLOWING a public and media outcry, the price of 89 microphones intended for communication in the Cabinet meeting room at Government House has been reduced by 35 per cent.
Monthon Sudprasert, director of the Department of Public Works and Town & Country Planning, who has been in charge of the renovation of Government House, said the department negotiated with the audio system supplier - Asavasopon Co - to lower the price of the microphones.

Bosch Thailand, the importer, had quoted their cost at Bt145,000 to Bt94,250 each. The Bosch system DCNM-NMD comes with LED screens at Bt300,000 each.

Monthon said after price negotiations, the whole system would now cost Bt53 million. Monthon said the department would help the state save some Bt14 million from the original price.

Monthon said renovation of Government House had to be carried out rapidly to be ready for the Prayuth Cabinet's first meeting.

The National Council for Peace and Order approved a proposal from the Secretariat of the PM to suspend all directives involved in procuring equipment and electronic materials during renovation of the building.

National Legislative Assembly member Maj-General Kolchai Suvanboon had said the NLA would look into the controversy after criticism went viral that there might be corruption in the acquisition of the microphones to be used at Cabinet meetings.

PM's Office Minister Panadda Diskul last week landed in hot water after showing reporters the audio system that had been installed in the meeting room.

The minister denied having any role in the procurement, saying that Monthon was in charge of the project.

Monthon earlier said the contract had yet to be signed. He also refuted media speculation that a 15-per-cent advance payment had been paid to the supplier. Bidding documents for the audio system were circulated to the media on Tuesday.

When asked by reporters if it was possible the procurement of the audio system could be dropped because of its high cost, Monthon said the reduced price was now suitable and acceptable for high-tech equipment of its kind, saying this system was used at the Nuclear Summit meeting in the Netherlands.

He stopped short of saying he would review the final price and would be ready to have the public check the planned procurement details.

The official also denied his department had procured LED light bulbs at over Bt100,000 each.

  3. Agree the government is not a normal customer, but based on how it works here. The government is mostly on the side of the seller in order to purchase overprice goods on purpose and receive a commission from the seller. So both are on the same boat and one would rarely rat the other one out unless their relationship turn sour.

As for the tablet, people who are up to date with electronics already know that the spec that the government was asking for is unlikely for the price point, not only that, they purchase through a tablet manufacturer that is not well known among the community. In the end the tablet manufacturer pulled out because they can't make the governments request for delivery dates, Chinese manufacturers are known to over promise and under deliver. The main issue is not the under voltage problem. Its just the whole thing is a piece of crap to begin with being manufacturer with substandard parts. On top of that majority of electronic come with 120/240v chargers, don't think under voltage is the issue here also.

I do agree many dealers in Thailand don't stand by the warranty they offer and tend to blame it on other issues.

    Cheers

May be, it`s starting on a way, where the seller and the government is thinking, that both are on the same boat,

so, the seller is starting, to install 89 microphone on a time, where you have no contract and not a fixed price.

In this time of installation, the press is starting to investigate,

and as a seller, you are saying, ok, my family and our name will start, to become part of a public discussion,

    only, because of this deal.

At the same time, your contact person on the government side is asking for more exchange service,

informing you, that a group of lawyer is preparing a contract, with many pages with a lot of clauses of compensation cases,

so you know, that the whole deal is getting more an more expensive.

You know, that you can`t sign the contract on the normal price,

you told him "hey, this is not an airplane deal, it`s just about microphone,

but he said, - yes, but the deal is on public discussion, and we have to make shure, that it has nothing to do, with corruption.

First of all, you change the price of the microphone on your website,

second, you prepare your lawyer, to calculate the whole risc of this deal.

So, this is thailand, you started to install your products, without knowing the price.

The customer asked for more, but he has to pay for this additional service, so, the price is getting higher.

  4. You can find these for around $2300 retail price online. Assuming tax is around 30%, the 99,000 baht figure sold by another local supplier sounds right before they change the price to 199,000 baht probably due to intimidation by the government.

As for people questioning why its so expensive? Its not just a microphone, its basically a mini computer, you can view / share documents, videos, webcams and more. But is it needed? probably not as most politicians are either sleeping or watching porn during these meetings.

if you get the microphone by an online dealer, you will not get his signature on a legal contract with your conditions.

It`s only about the contract, that causes a different risk calculation for the dealer,

why you can`t compare the prices.

    Warranty is the key issue.

If you are a dealer, selling this system to the government,

you want to make shure, that political motivated sabotage will not confront you with massive warranty claims,

so, it`s all about the contract and the conditions.

If they do purchase online, why can't they get warranty and a better deal if they email the local distributor directly? Just because the distributor operate a website doesn't mean there is no warranty, better discount, etc etc or no contract. Its not like they are purchasing just a single unit the distributor will just ask them to purchase online.

Don't really get your point, so distributors all should jack up the price just because they are selling to the government in order to protect themselves from warranty claims?

I understand there is a chance of political sabotage, but you are getting ahead of yourself now.

In retail, the middlemen / distributors usually sell for 2-4 times the price they purchase from, that is the general rule. On top of that they usually can claim warranty from the original manufacturer, and in this case its Bosch, the company that made the DCN Multimedia systems.

well, the government is not a normal customer, the dealer can`t reject warranty issues, without bringing himself on the top of public discussion, when things are getting hot.

Thinking about the tablet project, there was a massive warranty problem with tablets.

The main problem. not only on the country side, you have about 3 x power cut a month, but 20 x only 160 Volt without blackout,

so speaking about undervoltage problem, that cause a lot of damage in Thailand,

(thats why you need accurate protection with an avr automatic voltage regulator system)

its easy for the dealer, to reject warranty issues caused on unfulfilled system requirements, as long, as his client is not the government.

  5. You can find these for around $2300 retail price online. Assuming tax is around 30%, the 99,000 baht figure sold by another local supplier sounds right before they change the price to 199,000 baht probably due to intimidation by the government.

  6.

Unbelievable. How many have to die ? 9 dead by last count on a failed condo construction and now this. Totally inexcusable. My heart goes out the little girl and her family.

I insisted he grounded the water heater or I would not pay him. He angrily cursed in Thai and said: you Farang know nothing: no need green wire to make it work!

It is appalling that an ATM of a major bank had an electric leak most likely because it was not grounded.

Today, many bungalows have an multi point heater, with 6.000 to 8.000 Watt,

    http://ehomemarts.tarad.com/product.detail_928460_en_4928435

which requires at least a 7,5 sq mm wiring to the main breaker box.

The lack of minimum sq.mm is a huge safety issue.

In terms of a earthing system installation, the missing of an annual control of the ground connection under tropical climate is an issue,

cause rotten connectors will change your house safety.

  7. Electrical faults are all part of daily life here.......but an ATM seems odd.....of course have a safety switch with ELCB would have prevented this....."but it's different here....we don't use that stuff!"

Subject : Lack of electric standarts on public places

An ELCB ( RCBO / FI / Safe T-Cut) breaker should be a standart protection for public consumer electric.

How long will it take, that the casualties of low electric standarts are not acceptable for Thai society ?

  8. needing some shower heaters installed

Shower Heaters are not the big problem,

    but multipoint-heaters.

    HomePro is selling a multipoint-heater,

    same model, like this ---

    http://ehomemarts.tarad.com/product.detail_928460_en_4928435

If you install this 8.000 Watt multipoint-heater in your home,

you need cabel of 10mm2, or you will install a big electrical problem in your house.

The problem, it`s hard to find cabel of 10mm2.

Next point, you should also invest in an RCBO breaker, if you install a waterheater.

  9. I have connected a remote lock/unlock for the door to so I can watch and open it for the maid now all from my mobile when not home and all in real time. It's as cheap as chips to do.

Do you mind giving us more details about how you did it ?

if your doorlocker is depending on electricity, it could have negative effects, when there is a power break down.

The other concept is a doorlocker, with a battery.

    <snip>

I hate to break bad news, but Synology NAS is since a long time on the InvadeIT website listed with the note:

    Stock Status: Temporarily Unavailable

And according to them, this will last another couple of weeks/months.

    my other source for synology,

    https://www.facebook.com/NASSHOP.NET

in my case, it took about 3 weeks, till I got their email with the post tracking no.

  11. Is it something simple to set up ?

    it depends on the whole concept;

    1. Router Reset

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Diverser-GSM-switch-socket-DRH-301-SOLO/dp/B005KSVYY8

while you are out of town, your router needs a reset, that you get the connection to your camera,

so you "call" your gsm switch socket, that is connected to your ups, to order a reset for your router.

    2. Router protection and connectivity

  12. What about home insurance in Thailand, Is it any good? You can't stop them robbing you but if the insurance can cover then just make sure you have insurance.

with a british insurance contract, with the possebility, to sue the company in the UK,

you can protect your home in Pattaya, with

Thai insurance companies are working with a loss adjuster,

who is working for most of the thai companies in your area.

You will find your experience with the pattaya loss adjuster "special",

and will look for international insurance companies, for the next time.

HomePro prices are not market prices ...)

  13. I'm kinda surprised you couldn't find what you like at Tukcom? There are many shops that sell and install systems there with many different types of cameras.

I'll try to find out who did the install for our village. We've been pretty happy with ours.

90% of the systems at Tukcom are analog, not IP based systems and cameras. Generally, IP cameras offer about 3 times more detail than the standard analog cameras. Analog technology is old. Next, I went to every CCTV vendor in the building over the last 3 days and asked for IP based systems. No vendor could provide full detailed specifications of their camera or NVR or DVR, all they had were sales brochures with some specs, like 6 points about a camera and 6 points about the NVR. Attached is a decent camera spec. How can anyone make an intelligent decision about a system without seeing full specs and comparing the full specs of various systems? Also, warranties and after sales service are very important to my purchase decision, so I would prefer a local shop, rather than getting the equipment from Bangkok or some other country.

Too true about the vendors not knowing much about their products there. Very frustrating, but I've found that's kinda the norm here in Thailand. If you go to Bangkok, you'll have better luck, but you have to know where to go, and it shoots a whole day getting there and back.

Are any of these cameras what you are looking for? Tomas, who runs that site, is quite knowledgeable.

    http://www.invadeit.co.th/category/surveilance-cameras/

Thanks for the website but those IP cameras, are the low-end cameras and don't have the required features and functions. I need wide dynamic range (WDR), full 1080p resolution, ONVIF 2.0 compliant, low lux and IR (up to 20 meters), motion detection, vandal proof and ideally vari-focal (motorized would be very nice). Post #21 has a spec. of nice camera I'd like to find in Thailand.

go for the Synology NAS, that Tomas is offering,

Synology has the best Software, with their Surveillance Station.

As you already mentioned, you should look for cameras with the ONVIF Standart, to be shure, that they are working with the Synology NAS.

Most of the ppl. I know, order the cameras direct from china,

    http://www.alibaba.com/trade/search?fsb=y&IndexArea=product_en&CatId=&SearchText=onvif+ip+camera

based on the Tax agreements between Thailand and China, you get your cameras without any thai tax.

To check out, whats the best camera, you should read the Synology Surveillance Forums, to get the feedback from the others.

    If you prefer professional service,

the best company in town, SECURITAS,

an international global player, meeting the standarts of insurance companies,

    http://www.securitas.com/th/en/About-us/Thailand/Securitas-Pattaya/

ok, may be, the price of a camera is 3x higher, than the market price,

    but thats not the point,

in a period of 3 years, the will replace you every broken part, free of charge.

If your house is alone, and there is an alarm, the company is sending you military rangers to your home,

so, - thats the best, you can get in thailand.

  14. That journey from your hotel to the airport can be one of the most depressing trips you will ever make, believe me i have done it a few times. your mind is in turmoil, thoughts are with his family.

sometimes, a good taxi driver is helping the situation.

    R.I.P.

makes me remember a guy, first time in LOS, wrong hotel, sleepless nights near a karaoke, daytime alone in the hotelroom and speaking with the aircon,

Voices, I hear voices, voices, I hear ...(voices--russ ballard)

getting mentally sick, no contacts, shortend his trip after a week, made it to the airport, and fortunately made it to the plane too.

IMO, not everybody is ready, to spend his holiday alone, in LOS.

  15. Mr. Svensson praised Thai police and Swedish police volunteers for their good work in protecting Swedish tourists and helping those in distress while vacationing in Thailand,

    is there a connection ?

a swedish tourist police volunteer involved in the "pepper spray action" ?

  16. "The school claimed that if students progressed and graduated from secondary school grade 6 at their language school, they will be able to continue studying in German."

I am surprised to see many mix marriage that farang husband assumingly not Germans have fallen for this scam. Any Germans know that it is free for their children to study in Germany until completion of high school level.

    ...

Thats part of the german social system, if a Thai woman gets pregnant by a german,

she will get a german passport for her child, get unlimited stay in germany and also in europe, get social welfare of about 1.200 Euro every month, get the right, that her child will get the whole education system, including the best universities for free.

On the other hand, she has to live in germany.

About 50.000 Thais are living in germany, and an unknown number of Thais, having the german passport, and dual citizenship,

theres a thai friendly environment in germany,

    http://www.nationmultimedia.com/2011/07/28/national/Germany-lifts-travel-ban-on-fugitive-Thaksin-30161360.html

even thai karaoke clubs and a thai club scene have no problems, of having a front door label : - thai only -.

and at least, thai buddhist communities invested millions of euro, in building up thai wats in germany,

and Thailand's Crown Property Bureau (CPB Equity Co., Ltd) has the majority holding in the Kempinski Hotel group.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kempinski

there are certain ties, although many thai woman with a thai-german child prefer to stay in Thailand,

but want to keep the german education doors open for her child.

  17. Pattaya is a difficult market,

when there are promotion actions of one of the major supermarket chains,

and one product would cause serious problems to a well established local company,

who is offering it to a higher price, and have a big stock,

    something is happened.

The pattaya branch of the supermarket is only offering 3 or 5 items of this product,

and is sell out in minutes.

I think, the manager of makro got a visit, and realised, that it is not good for him,

to have certain products with cheap prices in his programm.

    Pattaya is a protected market.

I am interested to know why you think Pattaya is a more difficult market then any other city with a complete range of competing supermarkets - and protected from who or what?

first of all, we have to accept, that thailand has a protected domestic market,

certain products have a pricelevel, that is not connected with the international pricelevel.

Lets take for example a certain Gigabyte router,

    http://www.amazon.co...t/dp/B002YLAUU8

you won`t find this router in Thailand below

    http://www.shoptplin...bit-Router.html

    so whats the problem ?

I think, it has to do with the stock management of old technology router in Thailand,

so, there is an understanding, to offer new technology router on a high price level,

and you will not find a dealer, who is going his own way, concerning the pricemanagement of a new tech router.

In tourist zones, like Pattaya, Phuket, Samui, you will find, that certain products are on a higher pricelevel,

than you find them in the shops for example Bangkok.

When I had a house insurance case, the loss adjuster told me, that certain prices, I paid, he could not accept the refund on the same pricelevel,

cause the market price is much lower.

So I had the chance, to learn about the real market prices in Thailand.

I can`t tell you the reason, why products are sold in tourist areas, in domestic shop chains, over market prices,

but wait till you got your next insurance case, and you know about the real value of your belongings. rolleyes.gif

That's an interesting explanation but has absolutely zero relevance to the OPs original question and your answer IMO.

Bottled water and tinned food aren't routers or in any way equivalent coffee1.gif

well, it has to do with the problems,

that a local dealer will not break the prices of other local established dealers,

thats the reason, they took products out of the line, when they can`t increase the local selling price,

    based on company management.

    for ex.

HomeWorks Pattaya is offering only in Pattaya PAT Products on 40% higher level,

than HomeWorks Bangkok, oder Pat in Bangkok,

    http://www.026916789.com/

    so,

HomeWorks Pattaya has the possibility, to make individual prices in Pattaya.

I think, marko Pattaya doesn`t have this possibility, based on company management, so the took problematic items out of the selling line.

    - sex enhancement medication including Viagra and Kamagra Jelly along with

    - sex toys and

    - pornographic pictures of what appeared to be foreign women. Mr. Melchner claimed they were intimate pictures of his wife who was based in Germany and were taken 20 years ago.

Other medication, some available over the counter of Pharmacy’s in Thailand and

    - some medications which are not permitted to be sold in Thailand were also found.

Mr. Melchner claims the medication found is for his own personal use.

Despite this claim the investigations into the raid and subsequent seizure of items from his room are ongoing and

--- he is expected to be charged with multiple offences over the next 24 hours.

multiple offences, beside working without wp,

It should have the security of a safe,

and a few slots for air circulation.

    I want to place my

    - APC "BR1500I" Back-UPS RS Series 1500VA 865W

    - my Synology NAS and my router inside.

Coming home, after a couple of weeks, and everything is empty,

I would like to see the last videos of my ip cams on my Synology NAS.

So far, I only found the standart safe program,

    but nothing with airslots.

  22. knowing, that the topic isn`t hot att all,

    but giving my 2 cents.

I took a couple of tp-link powerline 200 fromm europe,

    1.200 Bt / 31 Euro a pair (from amazone).

Based on the fact, that my ip cams of d-link have an old mpeg stream,

(this is 20x more, than the modern H.264 stream),

after the first cam is connected over wifi, it wasn`t possible, to connect a second cam with a high resolution,

so, without the chance, to put cabel all around the garden,

    I used powerline.

They are working pretty good, but they have a problem with the unstable power quote,

so, after a time, I had to replace one,

    but getting the same information,

the price in Thailand is around 3.500 bt a pair,

and this wouldn`t change before ASEAN 2015.

So, its no mistake, let someone bring you a pair of powerlines from europe,

that you have them allways in stock.
