  1. Thank Tywais

Season greetings and best wishes for a Healthy and Prosperous 2012 to the THAIVISA team and all members

    Brian

downladed just fine here is the USA using windows 7 with ie9. Very nice calander my only problem is to figure out how to make a wall calander out of it.

Thanks to everyone who worked on this to make it a very nice calander.

  2. A few years back I remember watching a documentary of a lady in the USA who kept and used this breed as search and rescue dogs. We had a pit bull in our village which was allowed to roam free, fortunately it was one of the friendliest dogs in the village and some cruel B poisoned it. Many dogs seem to get a bad rap, when a lot of the time it is the owners who are at fault. Ceaser Millan the well known dog whisperer has many pit bulls and they seem to be happy living with other dogs.

A quick search will bring up a load of old threads discussing pitbulls. Do we really have to go through it all again?

not in my time on tv there hasnt, please enlighten me.you dont have to read them.

  3. I travel alot. When ask nicely, most staff will try to save paes for you.

I had 10 stamp in 1 page before.

I see a new Thai Visa Competition looming.

Next time I'm going to ask for an A4 passport....

Some Countries in West Africa insist that you must have a least six pages left in your passport or they will not issue the visa

  4. A bit of both really... my motivation for getting a GSD was it was the breed of dog i grew up with, but this being Thailand i wanted to get a loud and big dog to guard the house. Still i want a dog to mess around with and go for long walks etc.

He barks when the doorbell rings and he barked at my cleaner when she came yesterday (until he got to know her, then he was as good as gold) so hes instinctively got it in him already, i do intend to socialize him to people and dogs as soon as possible, hes total fine with strangers outside of the house in the few people he has met outside.

You hit the nail on the head when you talked about socialize, this is a must for any type of dog and more so for GSD and sometimes they can become aloof. The sooner you start to socialize the better. They are a great breed who unfortunately over the years have received a lot of bad press. Back in the UK I was involved in the GSD rescue and at one stage ended up with 8 older dogs who we could not rehome because of their age (no one wanted and old dog and the vet fees), but they were all characters in their own right.

Enjoy your puppy and do not walk him to far while he is still young as this can effect his hips.

  5. thanks nienke that is helpful :) I was starting to stress about finding an airline to take our breed of dog!

do you know the approximate cost of the blood test, as a vet near me said 10,000bt each, which seems a bit steep?

I will try air france, as the lady I spoke to said it would be ok to use 2 different airlines, as long as the 2nd flight into the uk was a)to either gatwick, heathrow or manchester, and B) it was as cargo.

she said that if it is ok by the other country in europe such as france, I could send them as excess baggage for that leg of the trip. but I cant go air berlin anymore as she said they were not a defra approved airline.

Air France fly to several airports in the UK

  6. ps the rosey coloured spectacles you will wear when first living in Thailand will come off pretty quickly....:D

I don't think so. I think mine were surgically implanted. After 15 years I STILL see that rosey tint. But then I don't spend what I can't afford to lose. A police bribe for a motor vehicle offense in Thailand is cheaper by far than a parking ticket in Canada.

As always Ian your comments are spot on

  7. Visited the Khon Kaen immigration office on Tuesday 6th to apply for my second extension of temporary stay based on retirement. The staff were helpful and I was in and out within 30 minutes, including application for re entry permit. I already had the TM7 and TM8 forms completed but they gave me another form to complete which was wrote in Thai, which I had the gf complete for me. Basically this other form was asking how much my monthly pension was and from what source, as I do not have a pension and my application was based on the 800,000 baht in the bank I just wrote investments for the source of pension and the immigration officer accepted this.

  8. I never turn off my air conditioning in my house, so heat is not a problem. The only problem I have is finding a Husky in Bangkok :)

With all the dog lovers out there, someone must know where I can buy or adopt a Husky or Lab?

there is a breeder of huskys in our city i will try and find contact details,i dont know if you have read any of my posts but i forgot to tell you at night they like to be outdoors,he will come in if there is a storm,if you have seen any films with them in they are always left outside in all kinds of weather, but he has brought so much pleasure to us we will do anything for him.

Thanks for your help...I had a Husky back in the States years ago and know how great they are..

By the way... I did find one person with Husky puppies, but they wanted $500 USD for it; a little pricey for a dog that I want only as a pet, not show or breed.

There are some advertised for sale in the classified section

  9. How card skimming works

The most common form of skimming occurs when you go to use an ATM (automatic teller machine) and don't realise that a false front has been attached to the card reader - where you insert your card. This then captures your card number and transmits it wirelessly to someone waiting nearby.

A hidden camera will also be attached to the machine - perhaps in a leaflet holder, a loose wire or a loose fitting - and this will capture your PIN as you enter it.

Alternatively, criminals will use a keypad overlay that matches up with the buttons of the legitimate keypad below it, recording what is pressed and transmitting it to the fraudsters via a wireless device.

Criminals will then be able to make a copy of your card and use it, along with the PIN, to withdraw funds and buy goods. So the next time you check your bank account, it's likely to be empty.

Another technique used is where your card gets stuck in the machine and a kind passer-by offers to try your PIN for you. When this doesn’t work, the same passer-by then offers to stand guard while you report the problem to the bank. The fraudster than takes the card and uses the PIN you gave him or her to withdraw your cash.

Here are five ways to protect yourself from ATM fraud:

    1) Protect your PIN

It goes without saying that you should never carry your PIN on you, in case you get mugged. That includes putting your PIN in your mobile phone as a contact under the name of your bank or an obvious entry like ‘Pin’.

Similarly, protect your pin while you’re at the ATM. Cover it with your hand when you enter it, and don’t ever give it to anyone, especially if there’s a problem with the machine. Some fraudsters have been known to dress in bank uniforms and hang out by the machine, so even official-seeming offers to help should be rejected.

    2) Pick your ATMs carefully

Try to only use ATMs inside a bank or those you are familiar with, as you are more likely to spot whether there’s something different about the keypad or the card insert device.

If you must use an ATM at night, avoid dimly-lit areas and opt for ATMs protected by CCTV.

  10. When was the last time you visited Thailand, the cost of living here now has risen a lot in the past few years. Plus the exchange rate has hurt many expats who relocated here. I read a very good article on this site a while back and the author had done the maths well, he calculated that for British expats it is now around 85% more expensive to live in Thailand than it was 5 years ago.

Well first it's not some dream i have after an hoilday ,,, I know that any move would not be an easy thing to do it will take time to set up right ,,,, I am only thinking on what kind of thing could make me a living & what would make a good small Business out there,,,

I am the kind of person that can turn my hand to anything, And i am not looking for women out there they kind of pi$$ me off as it goes hanging around like sheep dogs as you have cash in your pocket a few of my mates have fell for that crap ...

I am just pi$$ed off being screwed in the UK and i have been to thailand a few times and think i could live out there as it's cheap as chips and not far from okinawa so i could get out there for the karate....
