  1. Google it! Around the lake you will find the cranes. Stay on the same road the Sports arena is on toward the lake, and head out of town to the Birding towers. All around that area is GREAT birding. I used it for a stopping point before heading into Cambodia. Another exceptional birding place. I got some very rare species there, that used to be in the Buriram area. Long gone from that area now. Thailand does not have much habitat left. Cambodia is loosing fast. Right across the border in Cambodia there are still some white shouldered ibis. That was 4 years ago and the loggers were clear cutting and burning as fast as they could. But still had some good patches.. Thailand has long ago clear cut their forests in that area. Way before my time.
  2. I used to go down there and spend a few months each year. Right down from the sports place. Huge place. Good birding around that area also.
  3. Just to many nice places to go that don't have rules, and i can stay without hassles. Few months ago I was amazed at the amount of Europeans in SA. They all told me the same thing. Apartment across from were Germans, and they had been there for 6 months. They loved it. Also I can breath the air in most countries! Most people don't realize how harmful the pollution is for your health there. Extremly toxic to you body.
  4. Lived in and around Thailand for 10 years, twice got food poisoning. Actually I feel lucky. Once in the hospital for it. It ain't fun. The rules to not be able to call them out on this is criminal IMO.
  5. Just another Thai scam, most countries let you prove you have the funds. Thailand wants the money in the bank to shore up their banks. Best to steer clear of Thailand if you want a retirement home. Many other places just as good or better. Without the scams.
  6. China quality, someone told me the other day the Belt and road train from Laos to China has broken down? I can just see the Thai sub being towed into port.
  7. falang, farang give me a break. You and 99% of all older men come to Thailand for only one thing. Whether it is in a bar or in the sticks.
  8. That was just an advertising ploy so the insurance companies could get in on the action. Insurance companies are the worst of the lot. Same here in the US.
  9. Government - It's those dirty falang causing the problems.. Thai women - Falang falang pai nai, ma ma.. Falang, rok kun mak mak ,, Falang te nai kun debit card... Falang - I am coming baby, I love you too, My debit card is in my front pocket reach in and get it beautiful.
  10. Great news, and showes the nonsense that TOT has been dishing out. My girlfriend of many many years called me last night and gave me the news. She said two of her family had the virus and it was no more than a bad cold as far as they were concerned. Very tempting, but think I will fly to the Philippines and fly her over so we can travel together again. I have lost all respect for the Thai government and their rip off's. My plans are to never spend another dime in Thailand.
  11. The rules are geared for westerners and europeans, as soon as China can travel again the rules will be dropped.
  12. Xi, what should I do? We have a super duper wire we will fit you with. Make sure you record all private conversations and report directly back to us.. Ok Xi, ten four , over and out. Prayut,, Oh boy, I am going to be a super spy.
  13. This didn't take long, and expected before the so called elections.
  14. I did exactly that, took Thailand completely off the list. And i had a lot of time. I think most frequent travelers are smart enough to stay away from countries like Thailand.
  15. Same here in Texas. Life is back to normal. Was in SA and Mexico for 6 months, very nice there also.
  16. I had a few friends that were Muslim Thais. Right on the border. I have to disagree. Even the very conservative ones I lived around were definitely sympathetic to the movement. I lived in Yala for a while and had no problems what so ever and the people were great. In the bigger city it was great. Living and birding on Kolok and up and down the border I ran into some pretty shady characters.
  17. Alot of nice folks there, Also a lot of nice Malaysian's. I ran across many more Thai Muslims in the sticks on the border that were nothing short of scary. On the Malay side I had nothing but a great experience with the locals.
  18. I lived there for a while birding Malaysia and Thailand. The Museum Thai's are the dangerous one's. I sure would not want to get on the wrong side of them.
  19. https://www.iqair.com/us/thailand Covid deaths and air pollution go hand and hand. Until Thailand can get Covid under control , best to avoid all together. Can you imagine getting a respiratory disease in a place where air quality is so bad.
  20. I gripe about the rules for entering Thailand.. But, with Thailand being one of the worlds most polluted countries in the world. I would not go even if they stopped all entire rules. It looks to me like it is going to be a serious problem for years in Thailand.
  21. Same in Texas, the guy living across from me has four vehicles all huge gas guzzlers. I love my country, but I can only stand to live here about 3-6 months a year.. But the air quality for me is breathable. Thailand is on another level.
