You choose where to grow old, many here say it's better than their home country, reason, home country too cold, well, one thing about your home country, I would bet health care for the aged would be a lot better, there would also be more support, financially, for your Thai family when you finally croak it, or will you condemn them to their life as it was before you came along. Growing old isn't too bad, if you remain in good health, how much do you trust your Thai doctor/s.
From a position of knowledge having worked in healthcare in North America, U.K., Spain and Australia IMHO the best place to grow old and " to be taken care of" is here in Thailand.
You will not get 1st class aged healthcare in your home country without paying top dollar extra.
The same money goes way further here for a higher standard of amenities and staff.
Nearly all public hospital systems these days in your "home country" are staffed mainly by students and immigrants
.
Nearly all Thai medical consultants have studied overseas and are on a bonded system to serve the top public hospitals in their Districts as well as their private practices.
Home care for the semi-mobile aged here is cheap as chips and better than you will get for your money than "back home".
Why? Thais will take very good care of their aged - it's a cultural trait - and you - if you can pay the pittance required.
No way I would pin my aged care faith on a Medicare, DVA, NHS or stable-cost private health insurance "scheme".
I'll pay my money here and take my choice of carer(s) in a beneficial climate.

I'm on the "wrong side" of 72 - but well past the biblical "three score and ten years".
I too use the mirror test - every morning when I wake up I breathe on the mirror - if it doesn't fog up I'm in the right place.
Moving here 6 years ago I reckon took 15 years off my biological age - particularly on a sexual level.
The only problem is I'm a little bit worried I might become a dirty old man.

If a rider wearing a motoci taxi vest demanded I stop to be searched I'd P.O.Q. too!

Why not let the Euca stumps coppice, prune next year to the strongest straightest shoot and 4 years after harvest for chips?
I have had two timber plantations, one pine, in Western Australia.
The faster pine grows the lower the density and quality of the millable wood (which is where the money is made).

Sounds like rugby players indulging in a lucky sandwich plus a weak railing.

Hi all...I have been here for over 12 months and yep on OAP
centrelink sent me a letter wanting to know my BKK bank account so they can deposit OAP through electronic transfer
question is does anyone else have this service from centrelink and if so what are the fees and the exchange rate
I find it easy to transfer money from my AU Wespak account to thailand through an agent who charges .5THB per$1.00AU
I've been here 6 years on the OAP.
I have inquired with the Centrelink International division about direct transfer BUT they use CBA and have to send Baht and CBA are usually 1.5 Baht at least off the T/T rate.
As for Social Security Laws - all Acts of law have Regulations attached which are formulated by the Agency affected - in this case - Centrelink.
So You have the Law - but They have the Regulations.

Have you checked the flight times?
Bangkok Air seems the first - but none at 6am

This old chestnut again.
You will get another annual extension based on your original "O" visa.
If you read the application form and required documents to prove your statement the process is quite logical.
That's why you need your arrival card (sometimes from many years ago) and copies of your original "O" visa and entry stamp.
And yes - from your "local" Immi office
-
I just send the GF with my passport only and she signs for me.
The passport comes back with a new "Report by ...." slip affixed (this has to be personally signed and stamped by the Immi officer which would negate online reporting).
Phuket/Patong are computerised reporting these days.
Phuket - online reporting??? Can you please provide a link. Ta.
I did not say (above) reporting was "online" in Phuket - I thought I clearly showed it was computerised.

You think subsistence farmers in Thailand don't live on their land?
Get about and open your eyes in Isaan FJoe.
Like generational farmers everywhere many are reluctant to change their ways even when losing money.
Nor have the capital for earth dams and pumps for sustained water availability and drainage.

That's often the Thai way (which you obviously are not).
TIT - money talks.

A 2 year Certificate/Diploma would not get you entrance otherwise.
What do you mean by that? Entrance where?
Into a top tier University like Chulalongkorn.
-
Do you speak Thai fluently and read and write it?
Do you have big money to buy a place?
A 2 year Certificate/Diploma would not get you entrance otherwise.

Chok dee with this Old Croc.
If you're successful please post (for Phuket) as I'll face the same problem soon if the apparent new Soi entrance is not adjusted.

I take everything you possibly can need.
Next "new document" will likely be proof of health insurance.
I once asked the volunteers for a list of required documents for extensions - the answer was we don't have because it changes every day ...

Out of curiosity can anybody tell me why they make the portly lad climb the wall at the end of the 2nd video?
To check if he really is a Phys Ed student?

I find it highly amusing those posts arguing passionately for " good corruption " - the kind that benefits their creature comforts.
To tackle all corruption - slash and burn and start with a clean slate (beach) for a few months while the displaced vendors find a new job or go home.
Then introduce regulated minimal "services" on a transparent basis (with continuing military oversight if necessary) with the licence fees going to lifeguard services, beach cleaning and parking access.
P.S.
If they can do it on Phuket they can do it anywhere.
As they follow the money more corrupt officials are being exposed higher up the money tree without a pathway to buy their way out

I've been using an electric 3 wheeler scooter on Phuket for over 3 years now.
It is a GT150 "Boss" model from Bkk - 400W and gets along up to 35 kmh and reverse gear is useful.
I have permission to use it for local use around Kamala from the local Police chief after reference to the OrBorTor.
(local use is a moot point as it can't climb the hills that surround Kamala to go too far).
However it does give a great deal of independence within those parameters.
After exhaustive inquiries (Phuket and BKK) I also got the answer that it can't be registered because (a) it is electric and ( it is 3 wheels - despite the hordes of modified saelengs around - strictly speaking they are not legal.
As it can't be registered it can't be insured and no licence is required.
A while back Honda brought out a 49cc leaning trike which were popular with under-age students for the same reasons as above.
Unfortunately I couldn't ride it due to balance problems.
I've only been stopped by the BIB to have a gawk - as soon as I say "electric" they smile and wave me on.

You do realize you can't (legally) work on a retirement extension?

I don't think Thailand needs/wants a US styled "democracy" where whoever has the most money gets the POTUS job.
Prayuth seems to be cleaning out the money-based corruption - great results so far on Phuket and I await a stronger response to the expected "blowback" as the easy money dries up.

They likely wont accept "Expatriate" - substitute their preferred "Alien".
