I have a BigC card, in fact it is my telephone number.
Last week the cashier told me I had a 20 ThB discount, but she needed to see my passport.
As I didn't had it with me, I didn't get the discount.
I always have to show my thai license, ( has my PP# on it) when getting discounts using my Big C card, nothing new

I do, the only way they would know you had the condo was you put it on ur arrival form and since you owned a condo they assumed you must be working.
If u had put a hotel, i doubt you would have had any problem coming in.

Personally I've never heard of, nor come across, any from other countries
you just lead a sheltered life LOL
not arguing just stating facts, just case you know of none, does not mean there are none and i stated, there are other nationalities in Phuket and the south on L-A visas.
although i agree 90% are Burmese

They enter there if there legally employed and its their first entry into Thailand as in Aranyaprathet is where the migrant workers office is for Khmers and they go thru the final process for the L-A visa and obtain their wp the first time

I think most migrant workers this far south would be from Myanmar. Personally I've never heard of, nor come across, any from other countries. The word Burmese is probably used generically here.
MY khmer gf holds a L-A visa and we know 4 other khmers here with L-A visas.
WE have met quite few working at gas stations in the south as well
FYI over 600 khmers cross thru Pi Pet daily holding L-A visas

Odd, because I can find exactly the same deals as I was getting in Chiang Mai.
5,000bht, 6,000bht, 7,000bht a month.
i have seen some $200 apts in PP, nope not for me.
Even way back in 2008 when i lived there, i was paying $400/month for a 1 bedroom...its a great place to live.
of course it was full furnished, maid 2days/week, free internet/cable and a balcony over looking the Tonle sap river, across from street 136.. (Chroy Changvar) . Great views

-
There TONS of apts in new old buildings, price range from $250-$2,000/month
Get a room in a hotel when you arrive and than look in the area you want to be in.
some nice ones across the Tonle sap..https://artthehomefinder.wordpress.com/

From my experience, it's better to buy the Laos visa at the border.
It's no hassle. Just fill in the provided application form, add 1 pic, and pay.
Fastest queue days are Tuesday and wednesday.
It's quoted as 35$ for Belgians.
In Thai Baht you have to pay 1,500
It's a difference of a few hundred Baht.
When you pay in USD, they give you an unfriendly look and let you wait to collect it for like half an hour.
If you pay THB, it's all friendly done in 10 minutes.
When you come back to Thailand, you get a 30 day visa exempt stamp.
It's free.
If needed, you can extend it after 30 days for 30 more days at immigration in thailand for 1,900 baht.
$35= 1,057 baht so 443 baht dif or almost $15!!!
I've always paid in $ ( same for Cambodia)

Ah, well I first saw it in 2011 so to me it was still good in 2013 but doubtless it was better before then.
Like Phuket, which was magic in 1989 but by 2008 was ruined even after the post-Tsunami repairs...as I'm sure you know! ????
It all depends when you first visited a place as to how your "scale of ruination" runs - the old "I remember when blah blah" conversation.
I dont find phuket ruined at all and i have been here since 85, yea more tourist, more traffic, bit more expensive but more shopping venues, better selection of things, etc etc.

It was still a great place in 2013 but since then, "Snooky" has been decimated by the building, mainly casinos for Chinese. There are several threads running on TV about it - do a search.
Now it would seem that much of it was in vain and it's become a "lose-lose" situation. Sad.
HUH: it was ok in 2008/09 ( at least Otres was when papa john lived there) by 2015 it was heading to <deleted>, a poor mans pattaya with the hill for the really down an out drinkers.
