  1. They either get pushed to one side or leave and start their own businesses. This was explained to me by two ex policemen. One is now a builder and the other is running a restaurant where he grows his own fruit and veg.
  2. Then stop paying professional political agitators who are trying to break things up.
  3. I had cataracts and went to Bangkok Phuket Hospital. They have a department called Bright View. They proposed tri-focal lenses. Very simple procedure - 1 hour. Left eye day one. Right eye day two. Check up on day 4 then back to Samui. Back to Phuket again for another check up on day 12. Final check up after one month. All good. Halos are sometimes a problem, but not in my case. 109,000 baht per eye. I have no idea how l long I will live but I could possibly save that on glasses. I had two prescriptions before the op (reading and mid range). Now - no need for glasses. Brilliant. https://www.brightviewcenter.com/
  4. The political unrest is not Pita's fault. It is the fault of the crooks that are frightened that he will be PM. They will do anything to stop him.
  5. The problem starts when you stay elsewhere and that place records a TM 30 for you. You should re-register at your usual address. I have been going to Phuket a lot in the last 9 months and the hotel where I stay always registers my TM 30 at the hotel so I always re-register when I get home. It only take two or three minutes. Almost the same time as writing this response.
  6. Not when you live overseas six months of the year, have money in SCB for paying bills in Thailand, but do not have a Thai SIM card. Totally Agree. My money has left SCB already ????
  7. What is it that the gun lobby say? Guns are safe, it is the people holding them that are dangerous. Same with marijuana. The plants are safe, it is the smokers that are dangerous. Many times lately I have checked guests out of their villas (very tricky as they are as high as kites) and then they get on motorbikes and drive off. Safe? Not.
  8. As well as a majority of the population. Recreational users are a minority and are still illegal as explained by Anutin to CNN.
  9. Problem solved. No staff during Covid. Many left the island. Lots of the staff in the sorting office are new and the post office is slow to train them. Meanwhile, the piles of undelivered post are growing every day. My friend has found a partial solution. He speaks fluent Thai and he goes to the sorting office every day with a jar of cookies for the staff. He tells them that he still has not received the urgent letters that were sent to him last year would they please carry on looking. The next day he receives a batch of letters. In fact, today, even I received half a dozen letters. All sent in January. Including January's credit card statement and last year's annual summary.
  10. Not sure where you live, but here on Koh Samui we are desperate for rain. No rain where I live since February. Government water rationed and non existent in some areas. Wells drying up and water trucks only delivering to regular customers (at higher prices). I tried doing a rain dance but the neighbours told me to put some clothes on and go back inside out of the sun. ????
  11. I have a friend living overseas and he does not have a Thai SIM. (You need one for the bank apps.) This is the response from SCB So, stop the service before you have the replacement. Not very good SBC. Customer Service 0/10
  12. Put these in every wardrobe and cupboard and leave the door open. Or Buckets of dry sand around the place. If wardrobes have lights, switch them on. I leave ceiling fans on 24/7 365 days a year. Not expensive. Still working after 23 years (touch wood).
  13. No use to me. I live on a private development. No PEA or PWA.
  14. Pizza? Tabasco sauce or nothing.
  15. The problem here on Samui is the house numbering system. It tells you when the house was built, not where it is. You then have to go to the post office and draw a map (or two) showing where the house is. As I said earlier, I have been receiving post OK (albeit late) for more than 20 years. So have my friends. The problem is that the sorting office is not getting the letters to the postie. There are piles and piles of unsorted post at the sorting office. It seems that if you are waiting for an important letter, you have to go there and find it yourself. ????
  16. That decision is down to the bank. All of mine are delivered by post, but to a UK address and then couriered to me. My friend's bank would only deliver to his home address (from HK). The other two important documents are also 'post only'. Both are 'proof of address'.
  17. Yep. Been delivering here for more than 20 years. Drew the maps and everything. Just stopped this year??? Looking at the piles and piles of letters in the office, it's a sorting office problem. We are expected to go and look for ourselves.
  18. No. I always thought that he was rubbish.
  19. How about a largish floor standing fan to blow the smoke/smell away from your balcony?
  20. Not much of an investigation - Royal Thai navy investigates alleged corruption
  21. Just thought that I would mention that there are large piles of undelivered letters at the sorting office near Makro in Chaweng. A friend is waiting for three very important letters (one is a replacement credit card). He went to the sorting office and was told to 'look in the back room'. Lots of undelivered post. Lack of staff since Covid. He eventually received six letters going back to January (including the cc) but still a lot missing. Up here at the pointy end of Samui, people that I talk to say that they have received no post all year.
