  1. The negative stories are probably from disgruntled, theorist, bar-stool lawyers that post negative things about Thais and Thailand. Foreigners all over Thailand carry out DIY work on their own property without being gaoled or fined. It is only a problem if you get paid for it. Go for it!
  2. From signs that I have seen at the court in Koh Samui, they go to gaol. Each day in gaol is worth xxx baht off their fine and they stay there until the balance is zero. It was a while ago and I cannot remember how much each day was worth. I did not see similar signs in a Bangkok court when I attended a couple of trials there but that was over 20 years ago. The memory dims.
  3. Your post seems similar to the lifestyle of my wife and I (when she was alive). We both lived in the same house and we both worked. My work would mean lots of overseas trips. We only had real time together at weekends but never breakfast. I wake early, she loved to sleep in. Dinner together when I was in the country and always on Fridays. It was a tradition. Not for everyone but we made it work.
  4. This would suggest that the TM 30 has been completed. Some of the things that hosts need to complete a TM 30 is the visa type and length of stay.
  5. The offerings are usually reciprocal. How can Thais get into the UK visa free?
  6. Why repatriate a corpse. Cremation in Thailand and send the ashes home. We 'posted' my father-in-law's ashes back to the UK from Australia. I took some of my wife's ashes back to the UK for a memorial service after she had died.
  7. That happens everywhere. I cannot remember the last time that I took a taxi in Bangkok and did not have to argue about putting the meter on. I do not even bother trying in Phuket or Samui.
  8. Do not feel too sorry for the 'Thai public' on some of the southern islands. They want the foreigners - for their money. The locals depend on them either for buying their goods or giving them jobs. During Covid, most hotels and restaurants sacked their staff. The Thais had to go back to their homes on the mainland for food etc. Couldn't pay the rents here. Most of the foreign businesses here kept their staff on for as long a possible. For example, it cost my business a lot of money. Hotels etc had support from the government. Small businesses had nothing. The Thai public are happy with most of the foreigners. It is just people like this guy in the article that give us a bad name. Luckily, a very small minority.
  9. Well done Emma. Having seen the state of some folk in the morgue, including my own wife, I am sure that this is appreciated by the families left behind.
  10. Maybe bullet proof trucks instead of submarines and jet fighters.
  11. What if he does not want to go to rehab? Many people who take drugs refuse that option.
  12. Just a very light drizzle last night here in Samui. By 06:00 the ground was already bone dry.
  13. Oh no. He will want to have two Chinese submarines, a couple more frigates and a run around for himself.
  14. They were the only guests in the hotel and they had requested that it opened for them. It had been closed during Covid. There was a problem with their previous hotel - I cannot remember what it was. It is believed that the lady went to the pool, slipped and fell in. The husband then tried to save her. Neither could swim (according to their son).
  15. The press are doing their best to convince folk to crucify BJ. His is the only name in the headline, but there were four others - including his boss and two others of equal rank. Surely the real headline should be 'The Chief of the Police force is suspended'? Trial by public opinion?
  16. Hmm. So where will the new funds come from? It can only be from expats and/or tourists?
  17. Quite an impressive list but a tad misleading. You have thrown in at least one death on Samui. At least one death is mentioned twice. A few of them were natural causes or accidental deaths. Unfortunately, youth, alcohol, drugs and water are a dangerous mix. But we get your point.
  18. It's worse than that - apps on phones harvest your information. They then sell it on to pretty much anyone with enough money. You do not even have to write it down.
  19. And keep us informed
  20. Maybe they gave permission for the photos?
  21. Over a year ago I was diagnosed with sleep apnoea. Doc recommended a CPAP machine. At the time, I had major issues with a very large prostate which meant that I was having to go to the bathroom every hour. I decided to postpone the CPAP machine until the bathroom issue was resolved. I finally bit the bullet and had the prostate removed. (Drugs and other treatments were no good - the prostate was too large.) So now, I am looking for a portable CPAP machine - with the water 'tank'. I have found this one on Lazada https://www.lazada.co.th/products/contec-r100-positive-airway-pressure-devices-cpap-machine-with-humidity-regulation Does anyone out there have experience with this machine, or recommends something similar? (Easily portable etc.)
  22. Not for everyone but..... If you are over 55 and wear glasses, you might consider tri focal lenses. https://www.brightviewcenter.com/ Had both lenses replaced a year ago. I no longer need two pairs of glasses (different focal lengths). A brief answer to your questions - 1 It went very well. Left eye day 1, right eye day 2. No pain easy peasy. Very happy with the result. Thrown away the glasses and I can see the best that I can remember in my life. I told the doc that the clinic should be called 'friggin' bright view 2 Expensive (but I felt worth it). 110,000 baht per eye. There are other places that do it for less money but I did not find them until after the operation. 3 Bangkok Hospital Phuket - Dr Captain. As I self insure, and a long time Samui resident with a pink id card and a Bangkok Airways resident card, I asked for a discount. Doc laughed in my face. A friend , who is a long time Phuket resident, had the same operation for half the price. Final analysis - best money that I have spent to improve the quality of my life but look around for other hospitals that do it for less.
  23. This is the same Boeing that initially blamed the Indonesian 737 MAX crash in on pilot error.
  24. I was under the impression that most of the stories in The Thaiger were copies from other sources - often translated copies.
  25. 'Foreigners behaving badly' should be outed and fined/deported whatever, depending on their wrongdoing. As a side note - there is no evidence that it was a foreigner. Remember that there was a case of a 'foreigner behaving badly' in Phuket last month. He was filmed driving on the beach and the lifeguards actually asked him to stop. Turns out that he was a Thai tourist. Because he was in a rental car, it was assumed that he was a foreigner.
