She's just stupid. She sucks at being a PM, but at least she is good at sticking her foot in her mouth on a daily basis..a little competition with Chalerm.

I wouldn't say she is stupid, just hopelessy out of her depth. She does her best but everybody knows she is just a figurehead, not a politician, and what she needs is a strong 'guardian' to guide her through the cesspit of Thai politics. Unfortunately she has been surrounded by assorted sychophants and incompetents not selected for their political ability either and the whole show is masterminded by a third hand several time zones way.

Twelve Songkran's in and I'm really finding it difficult to enjoy it any more. The balance between fun and outright stupidity is now weighted very heavily against fun.

What Songkran I did see in Bangkok yesterday resembled some sort of aquatic Mad Max. Drunk people standing in the middle of Sukhumvit road, which is very often handles more traffic than a busy UK "A" road. Large swarms of people on bikes in gangs, drunk and covered in that powder. No helmets, obviously, but I did see one guy wearing a snorkel.

And then there's the trucks of people, all drunk. But, of course the drivers have volunteered to stay sober now, haven't they?

Although I spotted a few cops here and there over the past few days, yesterday I could see none.

Call me a grump. I think I'm pretty much through with Songkran's like these now...

Traffic accidents? .. Has anybody ever seen a highway police stopping and giving somebody a ticket for:

not using an indicator when turning or using indicator when not turning?

driving and parking on wrong side of the road?

parking near/on intersections and other clearings?

not having lights at night?

overtaking when not safe?

crossing the continuous line?

not wearing seat-belts?

talking on mobile phone when driving?

Hmmm .. maybe they could start from "trying" to enforce some of the existing rules before adding the new ones? But of course .. talk is cheap.

Very understandable. Thai people are less brain damaged than Americans. On top of that are American prisons actually more psychiatric hospitals and because they are commercial you are considered a product rather than a human. But Americans think otherwise though, they would truly think that they have the best system in the world even the best judicial system and the latter is actually the worst of the worst.

For the loyalists it's all about order, even if under an army boot. The redshirts campaigned under the slogan " no double standards."
