Reminds me of being a young US Marine in the early 80s. I was stationed in Okinawa and the Okinawans in town would smile as we handed them our money but we all knew they hated us. We were their income so they had to be nice. I think it’s probably the same everywhere in tourist areas. I think you can cultivate relationships and make genuine friends outside of those areas, but you really shouldn’t expect too much from them in those areas. It kind of amuses me that someone goes to someone else’s country and then complains about their prostitutes.

Likewise fordguy, I've never worked in another country, and felt genuinely welcome.  I've felt tolerated, at times approaching acceptance, but never welcome.   They knew we were needed there, but there was always an undercurrent that made me feel uneasy.

The possible exception was Cambodia in the early 2000's, but I suspect as the country gets on its feet after their terrible time under Pol Pot, and its people become more independent, the resentment will creep in.

  2. I've bought jox at the Weekend Market, Chatuchak, a number of times, about B25 a pair, good value and great quality. They last a few years. Why bother buying 'back home'?

I can't offer any advice on why the elastic fails, and it may just be poor quality, and the same may have happened back home.

I can't remember one report of anyone dyeing, ever.  Perhaps because dyeing is an activity that is of no interest to anyone.

What would they be dyeing, and what color??

You're right, dying is of little interest to anyone but the person dying, and perhaps family, except if you're a celebrity, then it seems many are interested.

Groups attempting to circumvent the democratic process??

There was a legitimate vote, and it was in favor of leaving the EU.   The left didn't like it, so campaigned for another vote, and if gave the same result, they'd be doing the same thing again.   Where does it end?    I know.....when the finally get what they want.   It's not going to happen in this case.

  5. i have an idea. we will use a thing called a

    c o m p u t e r. can you say computer?

visa expired on a certain date? automatically check immigration exit records for passport number. no exit? generate list. then go to house.

    look for bad guys.

    computer 101 circa 1978.

Isn't that what they're doing?? List of names....calling into addresses?

As the OP says, 'hiding out in Pattaya, Hua Hin' etc., so unlikely to be at the address given anyway.

  6. He said five Indians, one Korean and one Myanmar national had been arrested for illegal entry while four Sri Lankans, two Indians and one American had been arrested for overstaying their tourist visas.

Wow, big deal. they held a bloody press conference for that! it is not newsworthy in the slightest. I could take them out for a few hours any day of the week in bkk and bag hundreds if i was a grass
Probably not worth a press conference, but it sends an important message to other illegals......we're looking for you, get legal or get out.

I do not demonize his supporters. Never have, never will. I have alot of friends who support him. I get it. I really do. As much as I despise and loath the man, I get why he was elected. Hillary was a horrific choice, a horrific candidate, and did not represent much. She has few positions, and was completely out of touch. In addition the democratic party was completely broken, absolutely humiliated Bernie Sanders, and in general behaved like a mafia organization, with goombahs like Wasserman Schultz.

It is simply a shame it had to come to this. As much as the charlatan says he wants to chance things, many of us know how totally insincere he is being with that rhetoric. He filled his entire cabinet with bankers and ex-wall street worms. Draining the swamp? More like re-populating it with his own banksters.

Lastly, he was not elected by the majority of the American people. Only the electoral college saved his sorry butt. Hillary would have won buy 5 million votes or more, had she been a competent candidate.

Racist is now considered an insult? I thought he felt it was a compliment. There is no doubt he is a racist. He loves insults. He thrives on receiving them, and throwing him out there. He is the divider in chief. A true huckster.

Mike, I thought the popular vote issue was verboten.  As I said in an earlier post, I did time because I raised it and it was considered trolling.   The popular vote, in isolation, doesn't determine who becomes the President.

The fact is that she wasn't a competent candidate, and all the rest is huff and puff.

Don't put the cart before the horse.    NOTHING has been revealed that would even point to impeachment, let alone him being charged with a committing a crime.   There's the problem with TV Trump haters....so blinded by their own emotions, they have him convicted and not being able to stand next time round.   Silly!!

Have you ever considered what brought PTrump to represent his constituents ?You must understand that, hate him or like him the American people that elected him wanted to blow up the system, the mess. All of this talk of the Art of the Deal this and that, mentally unfit, racist and all the other insults that are assigned to him and supporters still did not distract the ultimate result, The Presidency of the United States. How profound is that! We are soooooo sick of politicians !Look at  what we did to demonstrate that.

Going forward, the continued assault and demonizing of us by the left will only result in the same outcome,2024 .

Exactly riclag.  The dems have learned nothing, still pouring scorn on Trump, innuendo, rumour, and there is nothing but that.   There may be, but at this stage there isn't, and repeating the same old mantra won't change that.

The people are thoroughly sick to death of the pettiness, so when a guy like Trump comes along, not politically correct, seems to be one of them, he's the man they vote for.  Clinton did untold damage with the 'deplorables' tag, and still they continue.   Beats me.

Certainly those political analysts on Thai Visa, regardless of how long they maintain the rage, will have no effect, except to build up anger in themselves.

Currently, in spite of the 'polls', Trump is the man in 2024, if he chooses to stand.

I was not the womanising that was the crime, If Clinton came out and said " I was having problems in my marriage as many people do at a point, pretty young girl came by, I want for it. I realise and regret  my mistake, Me and Hillary have worked out  are trying to move forward and do the work that the people elected as to do"   I would had being fine with it. who among as has not being there? But he played me for a fool. and I don't take kindly to that.

    Do you?

Compound that , with the fact that he unjustly accused someone with slander . which is a crime.

Same with this "womanise" he is playing me for a fool, and I will not have it.

Kennedy did what he did but as far as I know did not play anyone for a fool. If he had or he did, the I would react the same.

Anyway, these are nonsensical statement designed to distract, next time you get pulled over by a cop for speeding, tell him about all the other cars that were speeding before you, see how far it will get you.

PS: when I say "you" I dont mean you personally, I understand and agree with your reply

Man our standards are different.....Lewinsky was a 'pretty young girl'.    That's a joke.

I agree with your last para, too many distractions on here.

Did you bother to read the post you replied to?  This sentence in particular:   " If Donald can take credit for the stock market rise, he can take blame for the drop as well. "

Trump didn't cause the rise or the recent fall.  However he took credit for the rise, now it will be interesting to see how he reacts to the fall.  No doubt he will take his cue from Sean Hannity and blame Obama.   http://www.newshounds.us/sean_hannity_blamed_obama_for_market_crash_today_020518

Different factors at play in this case.   A large part of the rise was attributed to the confidence business had in the new President.

The fall has been solely due to the threat of rising interest rates.

Simple!  You really must look past the hatred and look at facts.

Mate, I had a couple of days' vacation because I raised the 'popular vote' and some lefty dropped me in.   That issue is long gone.   The popular vote doesn't determine who is President.  It's as irrelevant as it was at election time.  Get over it.

I agree it is very funny that thing called time. Hard to understand. I'll try to help you.

Govt. policy is like a ship in a storm - make a correction...wait to see how effective your adjustments are. The last administration's adjustments were quite effective and pulled the country out of a financial crisis cause by the administration previous to theirs. These adjustments continued working until the current administration's policy adjustments come on-line... NOW we are seeing the effects of this admin's adjustments and the markets are becoming volatile.

    Does that help?

    No!  Fantasy post.

      Quote

After a volatile session, the Dow ended down 1,175 points, or 4.6%, at 24,346.

It was the largest ever single-day point drop for the Dow...

But only by a whisker.  After the Lehmann $hit hit the fan, the Dow came off over 500 points, almost 5.5% I recall.  Of course that was when the Dow was nowhere near 26,000!!

What are you on about?  The comments I quoted wasn't from the press, but from a fellow American....a Republican no less.  The press, meanwhile, is still doing their job of providing us news.  The Trump side is still conjuring up conspiracy theories.  Believe what you will, I'm just waiting for Mueller to finish his investigation of the Trump Criminal Enterprise.

I didn't say that the quotes were by the press, but they do run along similar lines, unsubstantiated allegations.

Good luck with the outcome of the Mueller thing.  Even those on TV saying he would be impeached/charged within days a year ago are now saying it's unlikely.  Suggesting impeachment or criminal charges is no more than wishful thinking.

There are so many wild assumptions in there, masquerading as facts because "I believe.....etc".  Because you believe something, doesn't make it proved, or fact.

  18. I understand Israel's position entirely, and some people are just too different from Israel's population to assimilate.  It's not different skin color, but a whole range of personality traits, and greater percentages lacking a basic education,  that set them apart from other populations.  Sure there will be the occasional refugee surgeon or engineer, but mostly they are base working class with little to offer a host country, except a propensity for sponging on the welfare system.   Most countries have enough of that type in their home grown populations already.

I wish Australia's governments since the 1980's had been a little more discriminating.
