  1. Thr green building on Sian Square was built about 45 years ago. Since than they have added numerous steps to the building. The land around the building is sinking but the build does not. If you look at the elivated roas ways you also see that the elivated has not moved while the land had sunk.

Many years ago a law was passed that there would not allow any more underground water to be used in Bangkok. If you pump the water out from underneath, the land will sink.

The old storey, turn on the pumps, Bangkok needs more water. If the land goes down, than you have floods.:o

  2. What about the people in the south, which are seeing neighbors and friends killed daily?  What about the people that lost there families during the tsunami, to find out thet the bodies were buried without being identified? What about the yellow shirs which wre killed and wounded. What about the deligated to the ASEAN conference in Pattaya, which were intimidated when the protesters took over the Royal Cliff hotel?

  3. Remember some foreigners who live here are full Thai citizens with voting rights. They still look like a tourist who got off the plane yesterday and there is no way to tell the difference.

Thai Citizenship can be granted and can be taken away. It is easier to lose than is to get. Old military saying that fastest way to make E5 is to be E6 and screw up. :)

  4. Since when foreigners can get involved in another country's political events?

What does this guy have to gain? What does he have to loose?

There is a huge gap between having opinions, and actually going with a rally....I hope for him that he won't have to regret his actions a way or another

He has nothing to gain and evrything to loose. Immigration police already knows who he is and where he lives, and I am sure his stay in jail waiting extradition will be in an air conditioned cell. Mabey Hillery will help him? :)

  5. If the offences occured in Thailand and they are thais what has it got to do with the bloody americans.

Regardless of what side you take in this argument you do have a very good point.

Anti corruption laws have been on the books for American corporations for a long time. That is how they got involved.

Will be interesting to see if she gets extradited.

  6. Good! a step in the right direction, if they are guilty they should go down.

Next will be the murder of them there boat refugees not so long ago.

    Thank God for justice!

Maybe Somchai was not in charge then.. if you want to to say something pls do your homework!!

If Somchai was not in charge who was? His wife, or his brother-in-law? He was the PM at the time. So he must take responsibility for all actions on his reports.

  7. A danish citizen was arrested at the SIAM SKY TRAIN STATION in Bangkok recently! The guards accused him of throwing a cigarette on the ground.

Only problem: the guy works in a hospital and is a non smoker and said he had nothing to do with the case. The dane was brought into a room and he was not allowed to go untill he paid Bth 10,000 to the security guards.

Here is the link. The story is from yesterday, it is in one of the biggest newspapers in Denmark. http://politiken.dk/tjek/rejser/asien/article755129.ece

This is a newspaper that do NOT run gossip-stories.

"I was allowed to leave, that was the most important".

Anesteciatist Nils Georgsen from Copenhagen warns against being extorted money from Thai governement employees.

This warning coinsides with more countries wanting to investigate whether tourists have illegally been accused of shoplifting in Bangkok International Airport - after which they were forced to pay large amounts to be allowed to leave the country.

For Georgesen it went all wrong while he was waiting for a train at Siam Skytrain station, during a visit to Thailand's capital.

"I didn't suspect anything. All was quiet. Then, suddently a skytrain security guard came and pointed at a cigaret but on the platform", Nils Georgsen explans. Smoking is not allowed on the station. But despite the explanations from the Danish tourist that he is a non-smoker and that he he didn't shrow anything, he was still escorted to a guard room and surrounded by security guards.

Had to pay on the spot

They wanted money. They demanded 10,000 Baht. "This was no joke. They were very threatening. I tried to explain that I am a non-smoker, but they wouldn't budge. They just wanted money" explains the Danish anesteciatist.

He tried to call the tourist police but the guards didn't allow him to. In stead he managed to negotiate the amount down to 2000 Baht. "I was then allowed to leave. Thas was the most important'

See the travel warnng on the ministry of foreign affair's website (external link).

He has since tried to protect himself, when he visit Thailand, and is very careful about access to money, if it should go wrong again. And he do understand why these things happen.

"They are dead poor and must daily watch rich tourists. Obvisouly it makes something click in some people"

Tourists must pay at the Airport

Georgesen was on the other hand very surprised to hear that similar events have taken place at the Bangkok International Airport where visitors from several countries have been extorted large amounts to avoid prison, after being accused of shoplifting. "It is food for thought. It's the main portal to Thailand" he says, and worries that it will affect the Thai tourist industry, which is already in decline.

This is a rebirth of an old scam. About 12 years ago the BMA has special police assigned throught areas demanding money from any tourist accused of littering. They would even walk along side of a tourist and dropcigaretts and than charge the tourist for droping a cigarett butt. At that time I was working in the TIME SQUARE building, these litter police were all up and down Sukhumvit, they didnot speed any foreign language only demanded money.

  8. Hi.

Stupid question. But what's all this "washing hands" do to a virus that is spread exclusively through the air, i.e. via coughing and sneezing..?? And i highly doubt that those silly masks have any effect on this virus. They can't even hold Diesel soot out, i've tried it.

    Best regards.....

    Thanh

The reason for washing your hands is to kill the virus before it can go into the food you eat, or the food you are preparing for your children. The mask is worn to protect other people from the germs you spread when you cough of sneese. Sanitizing schools is done to clear out the possibility of the virus deing contacted by the students.

Proventative action is better than corrective action.

  9. Hmm..dunno if i quite agree with that hypothesis. I would tink, particularly if you have a fear of ghosts and things, the first thing you would do if you discover a dead body in a room, even if you were the maid, you would high tail it out of there.. no?
Spot on, and that may explain the footprint on the bed as hers where she left the room in two giant footsteps ! :D

This going to make an interesting movie, not matter what happened. This movie will not be good promotionable material for tourist or Bangkok finest. :)

  10. Smeared something on his ankle that caused him to lose consciousness? What would that be? That is a little disturbing, no chance to defend yourself in that situation.

I've never heard of anything like that before, it sounds suspicious to me. I believe there were rumours going around about this kind of thing about a year ago, unfounded rumours I think.

If they were good hindu, cows blood will make them faint. :)

  11. Something strange going on in Pukhet and Kabri. I wonder is there has been any data collected, concerning the amount of tourist deaths as compared to Thai Deaths.

I remember that when the US Navy went to assist the Burmese a Navy femail Officer died from strange happenings. That has been almost a year ago, and I have not seen any results of the investigation.
