Hello. Just going to apply for a single non o visa from London Thai Consulate based on having a Thai child. Only single entry for 90 days as will return to work after that. I was wondering how much should I show on bank statement. I have 3 k at the moment or should I show more and do I need a return flight. Thanks very much for all your replies.
I only had £1500 so 3k is more than enough. Return flight is not necessary. I did my e-visa non O in August so this is not old experience. I think the online application actually says £10,000 but I know that is a typo as I've had 3 non O visas in the last 18 months and never shown more than £1500. Good luck.

This question pops up all the time for all countries. When I first did it I uploaded my passport but I've since found out that any official document that confirms your address in your home country will do. A driving licence, bank statement, inland revenue document etc

It astonished me again the hospital costs here (foreigners), SEK 3.29 to 1 BHT....164,500 p/day??
Intensive care in a private hospital. My friend caught his finger in a gate so his Thai GF took him to a local private hospital as he has travel insurance. His finger was sorted and they wanted to keep him in over night - he declined and paid his 15,400 baht bill. They told him to return every day for the dressing to be changed at a cost of 1,500 baht but I took him to a local clinic who did it for 200 baht. So those prices do not surprise me if she's in a private clinic.

Revenue Department in Thailand to widen its tax base, targeting tax residents in the kingdom deriving income from abroad.
That should read 'deriving untaxed income from abroad (and bringing onshore to Thailand)'. Income that has already been taxed under double taxation agreements is unchanged and if that is your only source of income in Thailand then your situation is unchanged too.

Ok thanks. Maybe a flu.
If it was flu you would not be posting on here but you would be in bed thinking you were dying and then wishing you would die. That is flu. You have a cold or mild upper respiratory chest infection.

Nobody can answer this question as it all depends on how your local office interpret the rules. There is lots of advice on here about how their local office work but that doesn't help you unless the experience is from the same immigration office you use. Just call your local office and and ask them.

PWC and Bangkok Government must both be wrong, then.

The first link just determines who or is not a permanent resident and the second link is about tax liabilities for residents and non residents who earn money in Thailand. So registering with the tax man is reliant on whether you earn any money in Thailand or not. If tourists earn money in Thailand they are not tourists so there is never a need for tourists to register with the tax man no matter how long they stay. Long term residents who live on their pensions or other income where the tax is paid in their home country and Thailand has a double taxation agreement are under no obligation to register with the Thai Tax authorities. If you are no longer tax resident in your home country then you are obliged to pay tax in the country you are resident in. A lot of people ceased to be tax resident in their home country and have been living in Thailand tax free but the recent update to the tax rules is designed to close this loop hole.

More than 25 years coming to Thailand.
An onward/return ticket within the initial 30 days is an official requirement for visa-exempt entries. I've been asked twice by my airline in 20 years. Immigration never ask but many airlines do.

What you are stating is not what I am reading from the article.
''On 15 September 2023, the Thai Revenue Department issued Departmental Instruction No. Por 161/2566 (“DI No. 161/2566”) as a guideline to assist tax officers in determining the personal income tax implications for foreign-sourced income brought into Thailand by Thai tax residents.DI No. 161/2566 provides a new interpretation of Section 41 Paragraph 2 of the Thai Revenue Code: the assessable income under Section 40 of the Revenue Code derived by a resident of Thailand in the previous tax year — from employment, a business carried on overseas, or property situated overseas — that is brought into Thailand should be subject to personal income tax in the tax year that the said assessable income is brought into Thailand. ''
So yes, you would pay taxes even it is earnings from a year ago in the new scenario, but you will still not pay any tax on the money you earn abroad, that you do not bring into Thailand, which is a significant difference.
I suspect the part of ''that is brought into Thailand'' was also designed for the Elite, not to be friendly to us.
This also makes the entire story logical. However the question would still be how this works for specific things like retirement, or money you saved up while being taxed in the past etc etc. There is not really a way to proof this.
What I stated is exactly what the article says. My quote "then your untaxed earnings from abroad will now be subject to tax no matter when you bring them into Thailand." I never said all your untaxed earning will be subject to tax but only the ones you bring into Thailand, whether it's the year you earn them or later years. They are trying to close a loop hole.

Kasikorn will tell you a second account with them is not possible, if you have a WP or are retired, you can open as many as you like - non-O, not possible.
I got one after many attempts, I got one helpline manager to see sense. I had 2M in one account, the same account I was using for Lazada and using the atm with a queue of people behind me, I just wasn't happy. She spoke to the branch on my behalf and they organized a second account for me.
They even said the same to my wife, who is Thai, she has a small business. I wanted her to keep our monthly expenditures in a different account to her business income. They insisted it was not possible - I tried to ask what provisions they had for small businesses or whatever, let my wife speak to them and we can try and discuss what they could do for her and ways to comply to get a second account. In the end they relented and gave her two accounts.
Maybe easier to find a different bank in that province that will allow you to open an account.
I had the same experience with Bangkok Bank - they would not let me open a second account so I went elsewhere. Immigration told me I couldn't use a certificate of residence to open a bank account so I told them it was for a driving licence. I paid my 500 baht (the certificates are supposed to be free) and used it to open a bank account with Kasikorn.

Their announcement indicates that one must be here over 180 days a year to be taxed. Some news indicated that the original decree indicates that countries with a tax agreement wouldn't double tax folks either nor would they tax retirement funds (unless they were coming from interest drawn on savings, IRA's or what ever) that are earned each year of retirement, so like the US, Social Security or government/military retirement funds would not be taxed. But, =TIT and we have not yet seen the formal official annoncement so many folks are maybe wasting time even worrying about what might be. We have nursery stories about killing the goose that laid the golden eggs.
There has been an official announcement. Currently if you have untaxed income from abroad and you don't bring it on shore to Thailand in the year you earn it then in future years it was exempt from tax. The new Departmental Instruction No. Por 161/2566 (“DI No. 161/2566”) changes that and if you are resident in Thailand, that is stay more than 180 days in a year, then your untaxed earnings from abroad will now be subject to tax no matter when you bring them into Thailand. This does NOT affect income you have already been taxed on in your home country if Thailand has a double taxation agreement. Going forward we may need to prove the money we are bringing in has already been taxed which will be a real pain. International accountants KMPG have supplied their take on it. https://kpmg.com/th/en/home/insights/2023/09/th-tax-news-flash-issue-145.html?fbclid=IwAR1kEo_QrnHc2SH10G16TJICnIdzRh4f5L5wUFol_n4tDO7b5h6ZGqp4oE8

I'm afraid you only have one option and that is to obtain an emergency travel document from your embassy and most can only be used once and only enroute to your home country. You will then have to renew your passport and obtain the correct visa to return to Thailand.

The bride must be a virgin to demand a large dowry. If she has been married before then maybe a small one but if she has children then the family should pay you. That's how a lawyer explained it to me some 20 years ago. I think the same advice is on Siam Legal's website.
